I am very much looking forward to the F-35 coming to DCS. I am also hopeful of any core DCS improvements that may come about as a result of a player controlled stealth aircraft. Whether people are for or against the F-35 has nothing to do with their age or generation. It boils down to those who think ED can create an authentic experience and those that don't. One you get passed that you have a crowd that are worried about the F-35 being "OP" as compared to the rest of the fleet. Mission Designer aside, some simply want to see something that can challenge the F-35 in the air. Finally you have those that are neither for, nor against the F-35's development, they just want more REDFOR FF modules. I would actually think us greybeards would be more into getting an F-35 module as many of us didn't think a quality combat simulation of the aforementioned aircraft would come out in our lifetime. I agree with you. Imagine if, back then, other innovative projects pioneering flight sim in military jets like F-15 and F-16 were afraid to face this challenge. I imagine the '90s and early 2000s were a lot more secretive regarding 4th gen, yet, look where we are standing now. ED's F-35 will be the first true sim of this kind, and I'm sure time will make things even better in the coming years. 2 2

mazex Posted January 21 Posted January 21 Wow - a thread that is not locked! A really interesting decision to do an F-35 without any data accept public sales information, tales from edited pilot interviews etc. Lets be positive as this opens up to World of Warplanes addons for WW2 that could be fun like the P.1101. As it did not fly there will be no right or wrong on the flight model and final performance There are probably written notes on what some old german testpilot thought it would fly like. I guess even Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe avoided aircraft that they did not have enough data on. The Ho 229 was tested quite a lot after the war but it might be in the fringe of credibility to be honest. But I guess there is more public information available on the Ho 229 than the F-35. 1 Ryzen 9800X3D | RTX 5080 GPU | Gigabyte X670 Aorus Elite AX MB | 64GB 6000Mhz DDR5 | Windows 11 Pro x64 | Virpil T-50 Throttle | T50 CM2 Grip + WarBRD | VKB T-rudder MK IV | Asus PG279Q 1440p | Pimax Crystal Light VR | Samsung 980 Pro as system disk and DCS on separate Samsung 990 Pro NVME SSD
Robi Hobby Posted January 21 Posted January 21 If it's an F-35A Module from Eagle Dynamics, it will be the best there is on the Civilian Sim Market. I'm looking forward to it. In the meantime, I should start building my 4 F-35s in 1:32 Scale. 7 2

I don't think it's the greybeard/purist, at least not in large parts. The greybeard/purist have been "playing the game" since long before DCS existed, and may very well be pleased or unpleased, but for the most of it see it for what it is. It's ED doing the right moves to shape the company into the future. When all is set and done, that's the thing that matters, and complaining over this is certainly just a waste of time in any case. I think two groups are the big complainers. The "gamers". The ones who see this purely as a game. They want game balance. Red and Blue should be roughly equal and have roughly the same tech. The F-35 + HF F-15 + HF Typhoon is a move (a huge leap in fact) in the opposite direction. A more hard to describe group that see DCS in their head as something else and much more than what it really is. The F-35 somehow shatters their illusions. I don't know why exactly, but the word "Karen" comes to mind. As for myself I am too old to have any nice and cozy "childhood memories" about the F-35. It's in large part a big unknown and therefore uninteresting compared with something like the F-104 for instance, or F-5, MiG-21 and so on. But I know there's a huge amount of data available. Now, when ED compiles all that data into a flyable module the same way they have done with all the other stuff. The F-35 suddenly becomes hugely interesting. I see F-35s passing by my window almost every day (literally). Getting the chance to know it more intimately, is a big thing really, and something to look forward to. I don't think it's fair to refer to those who disagree with the development of this module as "complainers." It's more akin to shareholders of a company who may disagree with the direction the company board or CEO are taking the company. Many of us have spent significant amounts (thousands) over the years on ED modules - I have almost every single module and map. That's a significant investment in the DCS World ecosystem. If I feel the direction the company is going could jeopardize my enjoyment of the product that I have invested significant funds into, I have the right to speak up. That's not complaining, that's voicing my concerns to protect my investment. Calling those of us complainers who disagree with what we believe to be a shift in the company's focus, what we see as a reduction in the standard of documentation required to make an accurate module, is unfairly belittling. You don't have to agree with us, but you should respect our right to disagree (respectfully) with the decision.
