So here is the problem --i have saved all my aircraft input folders -- bought a new computer win 11 --reinstalled DCS -- as expected all input bindings are back to stock ... so now no mater where i replace my saved input folders , either in the saved game folders or the ED core folders . still have stock binding .. saved files did not change anything ---so it looks like spendings hours and hours re-doing the bindings  == PLEASE SAY IT AINT SO ?

Have i done it all wrong or ?? === Not looking forward to re-binding Everything ===any ideas or Help --Thank you ...

I believe the process would be: Export the bindings from DCS Controls Menu on the old computer, transfer the exported files to the new Computer and then import them from DCS Controls Menu on the new computer.

It ain't so 😄 .

You old diff.lua files copied from old computer have old USB GUIDs in their names. New computer means new GUIDs, thus your new Windows doesn't recognize old file names. You have to do something to rename these old files so that new PC recognizes them.

There's more than one way to skin this cat. The most idiot-proof is importing files one by one (aircraft by aircraft, controller by controller) using "Load profile" button in controls menu. It can take a while though, especially if you own lots of aircraft modules (multiply number of controllers by number of aircraft and you'll see how many files need to be imported). It's the only one I use, however, 'cause I'm too "programming-challenged" to write anything that would do it automatically for me. Not a big deal anyway, I can do 20-odd minutes of tedious clicking, one doesn't buy a new computer every year, right?

For more info take a quick look at attached guide one of our experienced forum brethren posted here years ago (don't remember which one and aparently he was too shy to sign his work 😉 ).

Yeah basically all you have to do is, using Explorer, paste the new file name containing the new ID onto your old controls file. Very fast and easy to do.

Thanks Everyone for your inputs ..when I get some time in the next few days or so ---And it Looks like I'm Gonna Need it ??

I will give all these a good read and try to understand it all  /  decipher / and give it a try , although the old HD has been cleaned out also with a fresh win 11 install updated from 10, all I have to work with will be the saved game folders I saved on a backup external HD ...

Ha! Fast and easy if you know what the new IDs are supposed to be, but on new PC with fresh Win 11 you just don't.

The only way that comes to my mind is loading DCS, making single change to each controller in each aircraft so that a bunch of diff.luas with new file name get created, then exiting and doing the renaming.

I'd hazard a guess, however, that it's going to take even more of tedious clicking than using built-in "load profile" option.

Without renaming all the files you can also import the bindings in settings->input options and DCS will create new files with new GUIDs but using all the input changes imported from your saved files.

Just curious, why would you need to change it in each aircraft?

In W10 I changed 1 key in each of my 2 HOTAS devices (makes 2 changes in total) and had all ID's I needed. Is that different in W11?

it hasn't changed. each aircraft will have different mappings. the controller ID and name of DIFFs are the same for each AC. i have 27 AC and each is same name and ID.

Ha! Fast and easy if you know what the new IDs are supposed to be, but on new PC with fresh Win 11 you just don't.

To find the new IDs, in your new DCS install go to any aircraft and map a single button for each controller. you'll see files created like this:

C:\Users\Yourname\Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input\Aircraft\joystick

CH FIGHTERSTICK USB  {2796EE60-F354-11ef-8002-444553540000}.diff

Move these files somewhere else, then copy your old files to these locations. Using Explorer just copy and paste the new name onto the old files.

If you're using modifiers they are located here:

C:\Users\Yourname\Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input\Aircraft\modifiers.lua

Go into the file with Notepad and replace this:

local modifiers = {
    ["JOY_BTN16"] = {
        ["device"] = "CH PRO THROTTLE USB  {2796EE60-F354-11ef-8001-444553540000}",
        ["key"] = "JOY_BTN16",
        ["switch"] = false,

It ain't so 🙂

You can use my script to transfer binds from old PC to new one in just a few clicks: more info on this thread

And if you have made your own modifiers, don't forget to edit the modifiers.lua of each module or redo those modifiers manually, like you did before.

My script handles modifiers as well!

Did you not look at the GitHub link? It has step by step instructions with screenshots. Can't get simple than that

Honestly that just looks way too complicated. 🤯

It’s much easier to just copy and paste file names.

More complicated than flying virtual planes? If you managed to get DCS running, this is a walk in the park.

True if you have only 1-2 modules and 1-2 devices.

  1. First you need to add a bind to each device to get the new UUID..... x 2
  2. You need to copy-paste 2 x 2 = 4 times
  3. Then you need to add the modifiers back for each module

But if you have FC3, that itself is 9 separate modules so you will do the above 9 x 2 = 18 times
If you add a rudder then it becomes 9 x 3 = 27 times!

Downloading and installing the pre-requisites for the script is a one time thing. Thereafter it's literally 3 steps to backup/restore no matter how many modules or devices you have:

  1. Select DCS Saved Games folder (should automatically be detected by script)
  2. Select Backup folder locationnull
  3. Press Backup/Import

That's a lot of devices. I see your point.
