TKMR Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Yes. I am. I've been playing Black Shark for about a month and a half now, and still suck at SP. I'm afraid of joining the MP aspect of the game and totally failing my wingmen because I don't know how to do many things. (I still use the "Cheat" method of starting up. XD). IDK what else to say... but yeah. Any tips or anything? Lead Admin/Founder of Kilo-Tango Gaming Community
Panzertard Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Dont be :) Trial and error - works fine in a sim. Just go do it. Btw, right now there's the 159'th Training mission running on the server (in my signature) - it's a good place to test your MP skills such as aimaing, target spotting etc. ;) The mind is like a parachute. TKMR Posted August 22, 2009 Author Posted August 22, 2009 I never ever did Lock On online (except with a friend once, but he was about my skill level). I also never did Flight Simulator online really (though that's not even really the same thing). Hmm... Everything is always more fun with a friend, and I've been trying to get my friend to get the game, though he says he "doesn't have time for a sim" (He's 17, doesn't have a job, doesn't have many classes, and sleeps for 3 hours a day. LOL). I'd feel more comfortable getting into the whole MP side of things with someone I know. XD Out of curiosity, teamspeak/vent? Lead Admin/Founder of Kilo-Tango Gaming Community

Yes, you get that information when you connet to the server :) I've done it that way so web-crawlers doesn't pick up the password and automagicly invites everyone on the web ;) Server ip/adress is in the signature anouncement (click it). TKMR Posted August 22, 2009 Author Posted August 22, 2009 XD nice. Well I joined. Not as bad as I thought it would be, though I guess it's not a mission atm. I just got auto-kicked for friendly fire though...whoops. Underestimated the power of a S-13. =/ Lead Admin/Founder of Kilo-Tango Gaming Community

I just got auto-kicked for friendly fire though...whoops. Underestimated the power of a S-13. =/ Hehe, yeah - "player Tkmr damaged Red Antorion" - no worries, it's just a temp kick, 15 mins. Repeats may cause a ban though - contact me if such a thing happens :) As you say - it's just a training area, but you can get confortable with using the Shark online together with other players. Remember, if you join up with a wingman you can fly over to one of the cities there and attempt to take out the hostiles. Great exercise :) The mind is like a parachute. TKMR Posted August 22, 2009 Author Posted August 22, 2009 (edited) Did not expect the S-13 to do that much damage... I think he was saying just a minute before that, that the S-13s have no splash damage... He lied! =O EDIT: You know what, I think I was using the S-8s. Triangle99 Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 I think I flew about 100hrs of Falcon4 before I was man enough to fly multi but I was glad I did ... with voice comms, there was nothing I had ever experienced like flying online missions with a live wingmen. BS is proving much harder to learn, tho, so multi is but a distant dream ;-) One day .... Boulund Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 You know people, there is no way better to learn than to go online. Most peeps are just fine with helping the rookies out, because it's a lot of fun to play together anyway! I went online as soon as I could fire up the bird and haven't regretted it at all. TKMR Posted August 22, 2009 Author Posted August 22, 2009 Interesting perspective. I've always taken the opposite stance. I spend time in single-player learning everything I can before I go online. Like at the moment I would like to think I have pretty good knowledge of how to FLY the helo, but the weapons systems and actual combat I'm still getting the hang of. I had some fun on the MidgetTosser server tonight though. Even got my first DCS:BS kick! XD So I imagine I'll probably try and mingle in the online world of BS more often now. Maybe learn something from someone. (Look how to control the bird when aiming rockets. ARG) Lead Admin/Founder of Kilo-Tango Gaming Community
Panzertard Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Always fun to fly with some new people. :) And dont forget if you join in on TS you may also get alot of hints & tips that you normally wouldnt get over the text-channels ;) The mind is like a parachute. Decerto Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Playing online with LOMAC and these people is great they are always helpful and understanding of your mistakes. I TK'd a few time in LOMAC in my over eagerness to shoot someone down as I finaly locked a target, it's embarasing but you'll get over it. You'll get better faster playing regularly online with people offering tips, it makes sense when the person is talking you through something and watching your mistakes than doing it by yourself.
Endoplasmic Reticulum Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 (edited) Allright.. allright, guys. You finally made me join you online soon. After so much begging to make me join online, I decided to smash my Hokum around in public in front of your eyes:music_whistling:. I was hesitating a bit, but now be ready for some friendly fire :gun_rifle: and good ol' violent fun :chair:. Just to mention, I tried it two weeks ago, but somehow there was noone around. That was a bit boring, to be honest. Well then. See you soon. Check your six. It might be me ;).:pilotfly: Just kidding guys. I really hope you are a bit patient with me and my dragonfly. Im a quite good fixed-wing flyer, but my piloting skills in the Hokum are a bit limited due to lack of time. element1108 Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Yeah a lot of cases MP will be a huge HUGE learning ground for you. Cheating to startup isn't a big deal (but it feels great doing it yourself...your wingman won't notice). If you have specific questions feel free to post in here as well, when i'm not playing Black Shark I like to be applying knowledge toward it ;). I don't even really play single player anymore, much nicer to be in a world with other BS addics ;)

WH_Boomer Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 ~S~ I personally don't understand folks that say they are afraid to try multi-player because they might not measure up. When you were growing up, did you teach yourself basic subjects like reading? writing? or arithmetic? I doubt it. More than likely you went to school, public or private doesnt matter. But you were around other people all learning the same subject material. That is what life with an online squadron should be like. Learning and sharing information together. Granted, there are some squadrons out there that may not be a good fit for you, because of timezone, settings they prefer, or just basic leadership styles. But, I'm sure there is at least one that will be exactly what you are looking for. Take a look at the Squadrons Thread (first post, page three, *grin*) and see what folks have to offer. Check out their websites to see who's active. Then see about flying with them. I myself don't care for public servers much because there will always be the guy trying to prove his e-peen is bigger than your's or whatever. But a good squadron should teach you what you need to know to survive in the electronic battlefields we all fly and fight in. ~S~ Boomer DCS: Blackshark Cockpit Trainer DCS: A-10C Cockpit Trainer
Snacko Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 Listen to the Boomer. I fly with him and the War Hawks all the time and usually die, embarrass myself totally, and let my wingman down. Then I click Fly again so we can all have another laugh! And I probably wouldn't have gotten very far in this sim without help from these guys. So, I pass it on when I can... IDK what else to say... but yeah. Any tips or anything? I understand you completely but I'm like this with almost every onlinegame I play, I have to much pressure on myself and I don't want to let my fellow companions down. The best online experience I have is with older people who teach others how to do it right instead of complaining all the time. We are all newbies in the beginning. Go Ugly Early
GGTharos Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 Don't worry about failing your wingmen. You have the following things to worry about: Learn how to fly the chopper, with AP influence and without Learn to use the autopilot, including how to program it Understand the ABRIS Understand the datalink Know the correct techniques to employ your weapons Be able to read and understand the steam gauges, not just what's on your HUD All of this information is available to you in these forums, in the producer's notes, and in the manual. If you do it step by step - learn things one by one instead of trying to do everything at once, it will actually go fairly smoothly even if it might seem a bit boring at first. Once you can fly the heli around, learn the navigation system. Your navigation system is tied to the whole flying around thing (no, really GG? :D ) and your weapons system. Once you can fly and navigate, you can probably fly a stable enough platform to employ various weapons. Now come the tactics. You can learn a bunch of those online, but not everyone will teach you good things ;) Here's the thing that I'm trying to say: Learn the basics before coming online. If you're with a squad, they'll teach you the basics ... cool. But coming online and asking 'how do I start the helicopter?' is a waste of people's time. Read the manual and do it yourself ;) Got something that's absolutely stumping you? Yeah, ask online, for sure. The idea is, just put in an effort first. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
VMFA117_Poko Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 Today I had amazing session online @ Sochi blockade mission. Great fun. Good flying everyone - ecspecially player named DAN. No TeamSpeaking but quite safe flying even in formation ;). Come people play MP, don't be afraid. Every rookie will get a hand in mastering Ka-50 - I'm sure.
159th_Viper Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 What GG said :) In addition - once you Join the Server, take a minute and Read the Briefing. Get a general idea of the Map, note Friendly vs Enemy WP's and Unit classification. Usually a Red (East) vs Blue (West) scenario, which aids in IFF. If you're Unsure - DO NOT take the Shot........not good for ones' self-esteem to go about tanking your own men on your first MP sortie. Above All, have Fun! Just getting mic and lomac+fc and im fine. :) Other than that should be good, pretty fluent with every weapon system on the shark. Able to fly without ap for long distances and not have trouble.
