SnowTiger Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 Hi Friends I am new to BS and have much to learn, but I have flown many flight sims before (long time since tho). I realize that the following is likely more suitable for the Saitek forum .. but I have to wait for registration approval ??!!!!! ... #$%^& So I am hoping others might recognize this issue and be able to help me here. So Here Goes > I have a Saitek X-52 Flight Stick System that up until today worked flawlessly. This stick has had very little use, especially during the last 12 months. Today I went to fly (Game Mode ...because I haven't yet set up my stick from Sim Mode) and noticed that my "Z Rotation" is acting weird all of a sudden. It worked perfectly yesterday (even though I hardly ever use it in BS ... at least so far). In the X-52 Control Panel/Deadzones Tab, I noticed the slider jiggles even when I don't touch the stick or table. More importantly, twisting Right is smooth and perfect, BUT twisting Left is jerky and ends up bouncing between Left and Right. ANYONE have a solution (other than just reinstalling the drivers which I have already done). Thanks in Advance for any helpful replies. Pilotasso Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 get pedals and disable the X52 Z axis in the game. I have long ditched it and locked the sticks twist. .
basscadets rriatt Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 i have the same problem bro, slider is also playing up throttel is seems to be losing range, the mouse roller on the throttel works when you dont want it to an doesnt work when you need it. an the actual joy stick just seems to be dying very slowly :D i need to make more an more adjustments to be where i want to be, its sticking like hell now also. mines going on for almost 4years of service :joystick: i think the 52 must have an expirey date or something  ive got some good use out of mine though dont get me wrong, but i think iam gunna go else where for a new HOTAS [sIGPIC]http://i343.photobucket.com/albums/o477/basscadet-2008/ScreenShot_023copy-1.jpg[/sIGPIC]
SnowTiger Posted September 13, 2009 Author Posted September 13, 2009 Thanks for the prompt replies folks. I am impressed on the reply response time .. excellent. I guess I'll have to save for some Rudder Pedals .. I agree that is likely the best way to deal with this as I'm sure the stick is simply failing. It sucks that a $300 (Canadian) flight stick can't last longer than it did. I'm especially pissed since I just got BS and anxious to learn to fly, but wish I had a printed manual already. BTW- Exactly what does HOTAS mean ? I see Saitek has an X-52 HOTAS whatever that is. I'm debating whether to spend any more money on Saitek (even though the options are limited for comparable sticks). I already had a Cobra (I think it was) which only lasted 12 months. What a disappointment that was. And now this stick is dying all of a sudden .. when I need it most .. even after giving it 12 months rest. Oh well, such is the life of a Flight Sim'er I guess. Thanks again friends. Hope to see you online some day soon, but I have lots to learn first. BTW- If anyone responds re: HOTAS .. maybe you can also quickly tell me if the BS Campaigns can be flown in Game Mode ? basscadets rriatt Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 yeah i think you can fly the campaigns in game mode(never tryed it i love the sim too much:P). HOTAS= hands on throttel and stick [sIGPIC]http://i343.photobucket.com/albums/o477/basscadet-2008/ScreenShot_023copy-1.jpg[/sIGPIC]
Feuerfalke Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 Is it really the range that is decreasing or simply spikes happening? I noticed that my X52 get's somewhat inaccurate, if I don't use it for a while. It seems the potentiometers get a little "rusty" over a certain periof of time. You can watch the result in Saitek's control panel: The red bars are no longer stable, but jittering in a certain area - especially when moving them. The cure is easy: Before you fly, do the usual preflight-check and move all rotaries on the throttle, as well as the throttle itself, and the stick rotary axis several times in both directions. By that, the sliders on the potentiometers will clean any oxydation that may cause the spiking. Kurtz Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 Ive got no real complaints using the X52pro, although I do use saitek pro pedals as well. The rotaries and slider do get the shakes a little so I use the slider profiled in "bands" and the rotaries I give a small dead zone from within DCS setup so they dont input when centred.
SnowTiger Posted September 16, 2009 Author Posted September 16, 2009 Hello again and THANKS again. Thanks also for "HOTAS= hands on throttel and stick" I took the advice of ditching my stick's rudder function and purchased Saitek's Pro Flight Rudder Pedals today. That was a nice $177 (CAD) touch. .. ouch. That in addition to my $305 X-52. These things best last or I will be pissed at Saitek. So I see I have to Disable the X axis in the Game (BS). I did actually already do that, but I thought there were 2 axes that were assigned to Rudder in the game ? I'm pretty sure I turned 2 off !!!!?? I have read several other posts about Rudder Pedals and Trim etc. BUT is there anything else I have to do or that I should know about using rudder pedals with my X-52 and/or in the Game ?? I have also read that some people prefer using the In Game Control Settings versus the Saitek Profile Editor. Anyone else care to shed more light on this issue or is it pretty self explanitory i.e. In Game is fairly straight forward and works sufficiently AND Saitek Profiler simply provides multiple additional controls because of the Modes and ability to set up Key Combos, Macros & Shift States etc ??? All of the latter is still pretty foreign to me at the moment but I'd rather get it all set up right in the first place so I can compete reasonably with others online later. Thanks again for all the help, past, present and future. HitchHikingFlatlander Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 Well I have the rudders and X-52 and both items have served me well for at least three years now (4-5 for the HOTAS). http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
Pogo Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 I have the X52 Pro and the Pro Rudder Pedals as well and I don't even load the SST software. I do all of my button assignments in the game itself. I've modeled the X52 stick and throttle as closely to the real HOTAS setup of the Black Shark as I could. I've also removed the x axis from the pedals and I don't use the toe brakes because I don't see much value to them in this sim. I may change my mind over time. The only real concession that I have made to practicality in my setup is that I've created a macro on my G15 keyboard that will turn on all of the autopilot channels in the blink of an eye, just in case the Autohover Autopilot decides to turn them off on a sudden whim. ruprecht Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 I will be more than pleased to be done with siatek and they horrible drivers and buggy stuff. Have had an X45 and now X52, been using them for over five years, no problems with stick, drivers or software. Would agree that they like to be used. I notice if I don't fly my pit for a few weeks, it gets cross at me and something stops working. CyBerkut Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 My approach on the controls configuration is that I use the DCS:BS options axis control settings for designating which (non-banded) axis does what, and the SST software to configure the buttons and any 'banded' axis. SnowTiger Posted September 18, 2009 Author Posted September 18, 2009 Once again, Thanks to all who replied. All of your information was helpful (or otherwise humorous if nothing else). I hope to see you online in the near future months .. preferably flying with me rather than against, but I'll be fully ready either way when I do get online. Bahwaahahahaha. HitchHikingFlatlander Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 In my experience error is 99.9% caused by the operator. The other 0.1% is the rare exception to the rule. Companies do screw up and sometimes a bad apple is in a batch of products. Most of the problems (very few at that) with my saitek gear was caused by me not setting something up correctly or the like. But thats not to say problems don't come up or they don't exist so hope you work your issues out emenance! http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
Pyroflash Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 yes, problems like a computer's software not liking you, or a hard drive failing. None of those are ever good, but they do happen from time to time. That is why man invented reformatting, and the replacement of HDD's and SSD's. If you aim for the sky, you will never hit the ground.
