Cubbys mods all round for my cougar come tomorrow - which at the mo has a broken Z axis pot.... so actually looking forward to using the throttle for collective / throttle rather than the RNG dial !

Hall sensors all round

Throttle static mod

New screws to stop the slight wobble

and some CH pedals thrown in for good measure ;)

Hopefully it will be a new experience.... will report back when fitted and flown....

Not happy at UK customs adding £30 for the parts from America though !

How do they charge for a part some bloke made for a joystick !

no I ordered the mods from Cubby

the HS3 kit (for throttle and stick)

Screw kit to get rid of the slight wobble :)

and the Friction Tape mod for the throttle...

been putting it together tonight.... its now 2am and gonna have to call it a day!

With the throttle mod - I have the old PCB so require to solder a wire... Ive never owned a soldering iron for years ! so will have to nip out tomorrow and buy one for 1 wire!

The joystick mod has had me stumped for an hour or so .... and then Ive just figured it out .... my fault the instructions are good .... but its one of those things where it takes a while once and then you think at the end ... what was all the fuss about... and would take next to no time to do again.

Calling it a day at the drilling bit seem as tho my little boy will be waking up in 5 hours ;)

managed to get everythin in and YES throttle working again.... tell ya I had a right sweat on with the soldering iron!

just got the static friction mod to do on the throttle...... it states clean off the gunk with Isopropyl Alcohol.... I havent got any to hand.... would nailvarnish remover clean off this grease?

hey lance can you 'sell it to me` a little more mate?!

thing is im not gonna be buying one of the newer sticks to come from ch or thrustmaster... so may well finish off the cougar with the NXT.....

the sensors seem very precise...... Ive removed the boot but theres a slight movement on the stick still .... does the NXT remove this ? what else does it do exactly ?

Posted (edited)

The NXT (or Über2) will:

- remove all center play you have with the stick.

- removes that sticky friction you can have from time to time.

- and last but not least: allows you to apply the same force in all directions (this is TOP!!) because with the original spings, you have to force 1 spring if you move either exactly left or right or top to bottom and you will encounter the force of the second spring if you move the stick for example forward and left. This unbalance in the force you need to apply if you move the original stick around is simply...gone...when you install a U2NXT mod.... It's brilliant!!

You still have to apply quite some force on the stick (Ian can deliver verious sets of springs for this but since it's a heavy stick, don't go to low on spring force) but it's perfectly balanced. Thrusmaster should have made it like this in the first place!!

I used my own version with 4 springs attached to the corners before i shifted to Ian's U2 mod simply because his build quality was far more superiour then mine...LOL.

There were (are) quite some variations on this MOD and i followed it from the beginning over at Frugalsworld. I even posted some pics of my mod as did others. One of them is Ian.

thanks Lange... (im just moving the stick)

I see what you mean.... move slight to the right ... then forward in the joystick analyser and its hard to 'draw` a straight line forwad as it were..... I guess another £229 on a stick wont kill me gulp!

He has his own CNC milling machine now so apparently its cheaper than it used to be (!)

Anyways he has none left at the moment and just waiting for a couple more orders then I`ll go for it.

thanks again - mind made up :)

Man that sucks getting hit by tax for mods, BTW I'm tempted to get both the HS and uber2nxt but I'll wait until one of the pots breaks 1st.

If you wait until one of the pots breaks you might have to waith a long time in order to get a Ü2NXT because Ian makes them in runs. He has to have a few number of people (used to be +/- 10) before he makes a run. If the last run has just sold out, you might be in for a wait. HS's are so much better then the pots that you don't have to wait until one breaks (if you can afford the upgrade).

I emailed Ian earlier in the week and said I want to order... he said he`d email me back --- probably needs another couple of orders before the next run.

Hey buzzman definately gonna get it just waiting on ian to say when he's got 2 more orders I'm in!

Hmm.. Is there any web address to check what's on offer? I have an unused Cougar waiting for some mods. Was thinking of getting one of those FS mods, but considering the upcoming Saitek, that might not be necessary. I find it's too stiff in stock condition and those axis transitions are unbearable.

Edit: Never mind, I found the contact email at this cougar world mirror : http://www.cougar.flyfoxy.com/mods.php#IJ_casing.

Does anybody know which thread (hope it's the right technical word ) is used on the connecting shaft between the Cougar stick and Cougar base? I first thought it's an M36 thread with 2mm pitch, but it seems to be something else. And because it's an american stick i guess it can't be a metric thread, it have to be imperial.

I have to know it because i'm on producing a mod for my cougar, just for own use, nothing commercial :)

Please help me guys

It's M36x2. They did use the metric threads.

Ours is not to reason why, but rather to do and die.
