Very, very cool video. Really enjoyed that. I got to say though I saw helicopters running into the attack with their lights on...you might as well phone the insurgents and tell them you are coming.

How do you get those neat ground level shots? The ones where you are right next to vehicle wrecks? What command view do you use? I cannot seem to get that low when I take video and am wondering how you do that.

Certainly he uses the after-action-multiplayer-trk-file in the temp-folder.

Some more questions:

- At the end of the vid we saw that flight with only the left wing (right wing + load was shot). Just for interest: is this asymetric load difficult to manage or just a bit more compensation on the flight stick?

- Am i right that your right engine had lost all power after the stinger-impact? So what did you to manage to fly home with one engine? Full power on the yellow thrust levers? Extra fire-extinction button?

It is the normal F11-view but I have edited a .lua to disable the ground-restriction.

eagle dynamics\ka-50\config\view\server.lua

CameraTerrainRestriction = true -> false

So you can "fly" through the ground with your "camera".

Try it ;)

What sound mods are you using?

It is the ArmA2-ACE-Soundmod.

Sadly I don't have the permission to release it yet.

It is difficult to get the helo back under control. But if you managed it you simply have to trimm it to the right side. Your left side is much more heavily than the right side and your helo want to roll to the left.

The right engine was burning so I had to should it off. (extinguisher was on AUTO so I simply switched off the cut-off-valve)

Than I droped my loadout.

The left engine was permanent on overspeed. (no yellow thrust)

It is hard to find the balance between speed and uplift.

If you are too fast, the engine have no energy to hold altetude.

If you are too slow, the helo produces no uplift anymore.

I also was wondering that the engine was bear it up..... good russian handwork. :smartass:

Thanks for that Dragon, great to see a replay of our battle :joystick:

With the lights, I always have mine off as I learnt to fly from the simhq guide to flying.. so I thought it does make you more visible.

Anyone know for sure whether the AI considers lights or not when detecting target??

Hi Taipan,

I can't quote the source but I do know I've read that in the forums here somewhere that lights on do indeed help enemy AI detect you.

Hi TAIPAN,

Take a look at Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\Scripts\AI\Detection.lua. You will see that your own lights affect the distance at which AI will detect you. It is even broken down by the different lights, such as NAV, LANDING, TIPS, SPOT, and STROBE, each with different effects on the total detection factor.

BTW Dragon, I just watched the video, great flying at the end!

Excellent video - closest I have seen that is representative to what is going on now in Afghanistan, though the reality is that fortunately the Taliban do not have manpads, but RPGs are still dangerouse for Helos. See Ed Mavy's book Hellfire.

Beautiful piece of flying there, Dragon. Better than mine by far!

The exact same thing happened to me last Friday on the AEF server, except I lost my left wing by a tank round.

I'd like to post the TRK file but it's quite large.

Thanks again to AEF for hosting and being a great bunch of guys and thank you too for making such enjoyable missions :).

Yes, I know. Sadly the RPG-Guys in the game are not that dangerous they are in reality. So I have to add a danger into the mission else the mission is boring. ;)

In the briefing of the mission you can read that the terrorists stole these 5 Manpads from a convoy. :music_whistling:
