zakobi Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 It's really simple, if ED ever made an E-war aircraft module for DCS, would you fly it? Ea-6 Prowler, EF-111 Raven, etc.
Endoplasmic Reticulum Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Sure, give me a EA-18G hehe Good one :smilewink:. I want one , too. I used to love her, but I had to kill her I had to put her, six feet under And I can still hear her complain A tribute to BBetty and NNadja :bye_3:
Boberro Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Why not, quite interesting planes. Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
isoul Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 It would be quite interesting to fly around without firing a single shot but at the same time being one of the most important guys in the air(for your friends) or radar's worst nightmare(for your foes)!
DarkWanderer Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 It would be quite interesting to fly around without firing a single shot but at the same time being one of the most important guys in the air(for your friends) or radar's worst nightmare(for your foes)! Doing nothing and being in center of attention... What a dream :P You want the best? Here i am...
Prophet4no1 Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Aren't most of the electronics automated on the EW aircraft? So it would be like flying a civ sim, but with all the AI doing the fun combat stuff. Sounds a little boring to me. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
GGTharos Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Not quite. Your SPJ (self-protection jammer) on your fighter might be complately automated, but EW birds carry much more sophisticated and most importantly, much more powerful gear that may also require human understanding and management. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

HungaroJET Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 (edited) ... require human understanding and management. OH, YEAH and the whole stuff is classified  but otherwise it would be nice  Intruder & Aardvark also :joystick::pilotfly: EA-18G ? just a DayDream :smartass:  coz its hyperclassified :yay: Edited February 4, 2010 by HungaroJET Atop the midnight tarmac, a metal beast awaits. kaiserb_uk Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Yeah, apart from how little the pilot does in those birds. Quite honestly would be the most boring thing imaginable. Now Wild Weasel might be a little more like it, F-4G please!

L4key Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 But if you're sat as the Electronic systems operator - all those switches and buttons, not even window to look out of... Seriously... Might as well program a power station simulator. 1
liotczik Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 I'd be interested to fly such aircraft. They would be particularly useful in MP, mostly as a multicrew planes (that is either controlled by several players at once or one player manning different seats, depending on needs). However, I'm worried about the usual "classified stuff" preventing us from getting the most interesting and modern digital hardware. For now I have to manage with 'Jane's Fleet Command' and 'Harpoon' regarding EW. Another nice series would be ASW platforms. I've bought 'Dangerous Waters' for the Seahawk alone, though Orion hooked me as well, regardless almost non-existant flight model and obvious simplifications in avionics. Still, it is enough to get me interested - partially, because there is nothing better in this field and partially, because it's a challenge, even with the current fidelity. One more similar airframe I'd like to try, is E-2 Hawkeye. Carrier ops + turboprop :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Originally Posted by Death-17 Any yahoo can fly fixed, it takes skill to fly rotor.
SUBS17 Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 In F4AF you can fly such aircraft and their presence in a package effects the SAMs/AAA and search radar for the entire package so long as you are within a short distance of the Jamming aircraft. It would be cool if DCS had this even if the Jammer aircraft was AI so long as it was smart enough to do its job. BTW F/A-18G would rock. [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
vrv Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 I've always wanted to fly the EA-6B Prowler ever since I was just a bit wee lad. Would be interesting to have a full human crew in the back. Viper sitting in the back complaining that we can't blow anything up hahaha [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] EtherealN: I will promptly perform a sex change and offer my hand in marriage to whomever
Eddie Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Viper sitting in the back complaining that we can't blow anything up hahaha Well you could pack a couple of HARMs, so you'd be able to blow radars up at least, unless they've removed that ability of course.
vrv Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 I was being sarcastic ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] EtherealN: I will promptly perform a sex change and offer my hand in marriage to whomever

Wags94 Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 I would imagine it to be like flying a commercial airliner in FSX, except it's a high-performance jet aircraft instead of the heavy airliner. Just kinda fly around. Something I might do in real-life, but for a computer game, not so much. I need all the explosions and effects to fill in the missing feeling of actual flight. :P "Don't tell mom I'm a pilot, she thinks I play piano at a whore house."
VIKBELL Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 I would not mind one bit flying a US Navy E-6b intruder with full electronic measures off of carrier:). There are 2 categories of fighter pilots: those who have performed, and those who someday will perform, a magnificent defensive break turn toward a bug on the canopy. Robert Shaw

Since obviously you don't even have an engine in a glider, and thermals/ridge lifts are not always so easy to find, I think that lack of explosions'n'bloodshed would be your last concern there ;) Try it, complete 5 hour track and then we'll talk about "feeling" of flight  1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Originally Posted by Death-17 Any yahoo can fly fixed, it takes skill to fly rotor.
Mr Pink Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Ea-6b prowler thats the way to go. Landing on the carrier in high winds and rough seas at night. I think that you cannot call that boring anyway!!!
Frederf Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 Sounds like something that could be fun from a depth-complexity point of view as well as cooperation with other aircraft. However aren't most EW systems heavily classified? Most flight sims have shown that 95% of systems are able to be modeled but always the IFF/EW systems are "not implemented."

Yeah, it's never going to happen. But still, something else for us to dream about I suppose.
