I´m retrying Arma at the moment with Operation Arrowhead. I really like it at the moment. It´s a good contrast to our Flight Sims.

I still got one major issue that disturbs me. I have a ping of about 60 to max 90 and I´m expereincing lags everywhere.

The A runs "digital" (laggy) teammates also and especially when I´m passenger in vehicle.

I always hoped this lag gets solved by any update but it didn´t happened.

Is there any tweaking possible to solve that if it´s a problem of my own?

This would make arma2 way more enjoable as it is already.

Thanks in advance.

Can anyone say whether it is better to buy the DVD, or Steam version (Arma II, OA, plus DLC), assuming any price difference is ignored?

If you buy the DVDs, how do you deal with the BAF and PMC addons which are 'digital download' only?

Thanks!

I bought Arrowhead and BAF only. I didn't buy the original ARMA2 or PMC.

All DLC plus the main game are together, so you don't need a separate .exe for each one. you can choose any campaign from BAF, Arrowhead or PMC in the campaigns menu or in single missions scenarios menu. Its all in one.

As for the Steam version - I bought them from Steam but you don't necessarily have to launch steam to load the game. you can find the .exe in the steam directory (don't remember exactly where now cos I'm at work) and make a shortcut to your desktop or game folder and launch without steam.

IMHO I think Steam is better cos it'll automatically upgrade/patch your game (any game you purchase) without any trouble. Its all done automatically.

That s right, automatic patch is great and when you have a new HD you reinstall what you want when you want. Also when modding, install once save your game folder and mod till your screw up. Then delete game folder take the original you saved in the right steam folder, rince and repeat.

Steam also have the vantage that you don t need to drag your CD all around, just install basic steam, log in, install the game you want and pronto.

BTW, ususally, Drive where steam is installed (doesn t need to be c)/:steam/steam app/comon/(here youll have all your game folder) Arma2/

Shouldn t vary much from that.

This is also god for all SP game, without steam having to kick in.

Hmm, thanks for the advice. Slightly annoyed I sat on the fence during the Steam Christmas sale not sure which way to go. Though from memory the Steam prices may not have even matched regular DVD price...

Current UK prices:

Steam

Arma II #19.99 or DVD #12.89 (incl. del from Play)

OA #19.99 or DVD #14.99 (incl. del from Play)

CO #29.99

Edit: Not sure what's wrong with the Pound symbol??? I've put '#' in for the Pound symbol.

The price came down during the daily deals, outwith the daily deals they were roughly 10 quid or so, but arma2 and arrowhead were also on the daily deals section and the prices were sub 10, cant recall, but it was major steal for anyone who wanted to buy them.

I already owned arma2 on dvd, but I bought arrowhead from steam last year and durign the steam xmas sales I decided to get everything else frelating to arma2 on steam so it was all together.

I've heard there is some CTD issues with it? Anyone having these problems?

After the latest patch I didn't have any... yet. Hopefully I won't. It runs very smoothly on medium-high settings.

Never had any CTD's due to the program. Mine were always because I relied on the nVidia drivers to increase my fan speed and it wasn't enough. Started setting it manually and haven't had a problem in well over two years.

I run everything on High to Very High on a single GTX260 without overclocking anything in my rig (2.8GHz Intel Quad core, 8GB DDR2, GTX260) at a 1980X1020 Resoltution.

A-10 C in ArmA II Operation Overhead?

Hello,

This new PC game looks awesome. I saw videos where we can see A-10's CAS strikes. Do you think they are A-10 C's? I wish I could pilot an A-10 in this game, but I'm not sure...

I know it has the Apache though, but also does Call of duty Black Ops..It's arcade of course, not a full simulation.

Ah I can't wait until "DCS: AH-52D Longbow!" :-)

I would suggest this post should have been posted in the "Other Sims" thread.

But as it will probably get moved, yes you can fly the A10 in ArmA2 - Operation Arrowhead. Although the game itself is as close to an infantry simulator as your going to get the CAS aspect can look arcady compared to the DCS series.

The A10 in ArmA can deploy laser guided bombs (lasing is done by a ground unit not the aircraft itsself), aswell as "dumb" bombs, mavericks and obvisouly the GAU-8. Again the flight model is a little arcadey but no more than is required for simplicity in, as i say, an infantry sim primarily. Targeting is done via "click" targeting. i.e you see a target and click on it to lock up.

If you have proper team coordination (no point playing ArmA without it), it can be very rewarding having the A10 and a decent pilot above you.

As for the AH-64D Longbow, it is equally as rewarding/arcady like the A10. By default it is "click" targetting like the other vehicles in the game. But with a mod like ACE, you can have a much better targeting system. For example laser guided Hellfires which can be guided by the firing airframe or another source and the normal radar guided Hellfires using the Longbow search/track radar. As with the A10 it is simplified a great deal from the real thing. But in a game where the focus is on infantry, i think reaches a good compromise esspecially with the above mentioned mod.

Has anybody got an Idiot-Proof guide as to how to go about installing the Ace Mod onto a Steam install of OA?

Have you tried using the latest version of the Six Updater Suite?

http://dev-heaven.net/projects/six-arma-updater/files

In theory (and practice on my non-steam version) is should detect which version you have and download the correct files.

I will check with one of my guys who has the steam version (even though i told him no to :) )

Six Updater can be a right PITFA

Seriously, it either works with no problems or it will drive you insane with fits of rage so bad that a new class of medicine will have to be discovered just to be able to diagnose you.
