Cali, you get the AWACS, I get the carrier, and the others get to fly around while we tell them what to do? :)

I'm going to be the first to pull away from "OMG TOMCAT" mentality...

Wouldn't it be kind of boring compared to the Hornet/AV-8B? I mean, no air to ground, EZ-mode BVR (6 Pheonix and you win!), only stressed to 6.5G. Also, tandem simulation might be... awkwerrrrrd.

Sorry for dissing the sexiest aircraft ever made, plz dunt eet meh :(

That right there is not "kinda boring" and does have serious repercussions for your combat ability - If anything ever gets close to you, you are dead. Also, the Phoenixes aren't "EZ-mode" - they are heavy missiles, and while they have impressive range their bulk and low G performance means they are easier than, for example, the slammer to defeat.

As for tandem simulation, I don't see a problem in that. I'd personally feel it would be absolutely awesome to fly something like the F-15E as the backseater, or (wet dream) fly RIO for GG in a Vietnam-era F4. It would be a whole different level of MP. :D

An E model would be amazing!!! That and the only other airframe I've worked real world besides the A-10 is the 15 :D

Well, didn't you hear - all those pictures (all three of them!) of the E in the A-10C installer was clear evidence that it's the next one! :D

The Phoenix Missile was designed to shoot dawn large bombers..

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Carrier would be relly nice.. but make a carrier would be good work, the same als bulding a dynamic campaign :D Without a lot of people running around, making signs.... There has to be much traffic an a lot of life there, A sterile carrier would not be very interesting. But like on this picture.. great :D

I don't think the iran-iraq records are very reliable...but for sure there was some tomcat-phoenix action :D

The other interesting thing is that conflict was Cobra v Hind A2A with AGMs!

Does the F-14 do any air-to-ground/mud-moving? Honestly, twice the speed of sound at 30,000ft feels 1/3 as fast as 300mph AGL. The occasional dogfight would happen, and it would be spectacular, but I say a good 85% of combat would be BVR. Hornet is half as glamorous, but it does literally everything imaginable. And its pilots don't express homoeroticism :D.

It won't feel that way when facing an opponent in BVR ... and although the D model could and did do mud-moving, it was retired due to being a hangar queen.

Yeah, people who don't do the team thing can easily find BVR boring, especially when they don't know how to do it :D

As for the hornet ... neat plane, but the F-14 brought up to spec would have clobbered it in interceptor capability. The F-14, F-15 and F-22 are all 'super planes' ... designed to do a particular thing really well with almost no expense spared. In theory. ;)

The documentary film Speed and Angels (about two pilots who go through the training to be F-14 pilots) includes an account by one of the pilots providing CAS in an F-14. I think it was just guns.

The "B" and "D" Cats did bombing. Laser, JDAM and Dumb. And yes, of course they can also do gun-strafes on soft targets. The "Bombcat" would really be challenging, as it wasn't as "digital" as a lot of jets are these days.

Just re-watched the segment (starts at about 1h09m) - they were on a reccy mission and were told to go tank, then get over to Mosul. They did 4 or 5 gun runs in an urban environment (danger close), and then the other Tomcat hit a building with a laser-guided Maverick (well, they called it L-MAV, guessing that's what it was) which they provided lasing for.

Attached is a screengrab from the film showing footage from whatever targeting system they were using.

That is a very good adition, old tactical bombers, Su-24/F-111s, great tons of ammo over de target

A good addition, realistic recon and BDA mission by air-planes equipped by recon pods, not only specialize aircrafts. And EW aircraft's supported thas missions and making offensive jamming over the target area. :music_whistling:
