I meant you'd need to able to talk the commands instead of pressing buttons.

And by that I don't mean: "Engage - Target - WeaponType - Tactic"

I don't know if we're so far already...

The problem with arma is not knowing the command structure. It's the fact that they simply often give a sh!t about what you tell them...

well, why not though. If FS2Crew can create a voice activated copilot that runs certain things, I'm sure ED could create a voice activated AI that works on his own unless you tell him to do something.

Yeah voice recognition would be great but you'd have to learn specific sentence in order to make it work, not sure it would be a win.

Being called a noob when you're playing ED games for 7 years and have played other flight sim for almost as long but never felt the need to join a forum is always nice...

You guys should gladly welcome newcomers, they mean more incomes or ED.

Insulting them wont make things any better.

Everyone has been a noob, in every single area he started to explore.

But hey, it's always easier to presumptuously state someone is a noob than try to help him, no doubt about that.

Wasnt referring to you. Referring to all those who are trying to vote for the most ridiculous aircraft right now for a high fidelity simulation...stuff thats classified and all that, you know...other than that, nobody really cares. You need help, youll get help, whether your a vet or noob. It gets old after the first 10 years when everyone asks for the same thing: F-14, F-22, F-35, SR-71, etc.

Sorry Hitman, I had a bad day and I may have overreacted a bit.

If one feels offended by the word "noob" he definitely shouldn't participate in a forum.

I don't want to try to be the smartest guy in the room or something.

I still stand with what I said, I think it's true for every commmunity of niche market game but yeah, It wasn't appropriate.

no hard feelings ;)

Yeah... I've been toying with FreeFalcon and although I can recognize a great sim/game hybrid (even if a bit unstable), fixed wing aircraft are just not my cup of tea. Perhaps DCS can get a DC as good as the Falcon series while maintaining the realism of the sim part.

If DCS ever gets a dynamic campaign I'll get the Ka-50 module because it seems to be brilliant from my point of view, but a DC is a must for the game to have a long lasting interest (for me).

And yeah, a Ka-52 "expansion" module (that would only work if you already own Ka-50 and is cheaper) would be excellent, although I'm still trying to investigate how close the Ka-52 is from being officially adopted.

HerrKaput,

You raise some good points, and frankly the 52 program seems a bit of a joke considering the same optics can be fitted to the 50 without significantly increasing the pilots workload and at the same time exponentially increasing the machines effectiveness, in my un educated opinion. give us a damned flir and watch the sparks fly, sure as hell beats adding a whole other seat and person. :P

EDIT: from the research I have done into the 52's potential deployment it would be to fly high and safe while using its advanced systems to locate and defer targets to the attacking formation of 50's. like using a D model longbow to direct A model apaches. All theoretical at this point though, thats why we need the hard core simmers to test these tactics out :P

Yeah ben, AFAIK that's the planned role for the Ka-52. The optics might be expensive, which explains why the Ka-50 doesn't have them. Perhaps the idea is to have one Ka-52 for every 3-4 Ka-50s?

Only the Russian brass knows :)

Posted

It has nothing to do with the optics being expensive. It has everything to do with not wanting an old single-seat attack helicopter.

The Russian Aviation does not want one, and yes, it is the Ka-50.

Yep - despite the fact that the Ka-50 won the competition to be the attack helicopter for the Russian armed forces, old stick in the mud experts just couldn't get over their prejudice against single seat attack helicopters...

;-)

Cheers.

Coaxial rotors and lack of funds gave a small push too to that decision I think, no?

Ah, thanks for clarifying :)

So you guys are suggesting that the Ka-52 was developed to fulfill the role that was supposed to be of the Ka-50? Because of that bias against single seat helis (don't really understand the "old" adjective, it's more recent than most if not all helis used throughout the world), and because of the lack of radar?

Are you implying that the workload for a single pilot being too high is not true? ;)

I've been trying to find studies about this "information overload" (I think that's the common term for this problem). I'm not sure whether a Ka-50 is harder to fly than, say, an F-16 (they are surely very different!), but it's definitely a concern. I mean, even in EECH I sometimes have a hard problem keeping the helo stable while I aim the FLIR to launch a laser-guided missile, and that is not as realistic a sim as DCS.

On the other hand, I'm also nowhere near having the skill of a real fighter/helo pilot. And my Saitek Cyborg X doesn't help :D

EDIT: great video with interviews of pilots who experienced this in real life:

Well I do believe pilot overload is the fact. You have to fly LOW, carefully and search targets via old, rusty Shkval. Mean time you have to avoid enemy fire and kill that enemy. It is a lot of work in one time in high stress situation.

Even in DCS it is sometimes hard to do all things and we're sitting in good, comfortable chair with hot tea and cookies next to you :D

I would like to see the OA-10C

Lucky you!

Its already out :P

Jokes aside: The O/A-10C is exactly the same as A-10C. The designation OA-10C is just assigned to express the purpose of the aircrafts' current mission purpose which is in the case of O/A-10C an AFAC.
