element1108 Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 I bought FC2 because of the patch. Mildly disappointing that it is not done yet. I am hoping it will be done before tomorrow. It would be great to fly it this weekend. On a positive note: I copied several BS missions into FC2 and they work. I had to change some of the planes to Player mode. What I am dreading is the patch will not work and all the hype will be for not. I also installed the runway mods from BS into FC2. This kind of cross compatibility is very promising. The key issue here for this patch is that it works 100% or as close to it as possible. It won't be long now, besides this gives you enough time to setup FC 2.0 to the best of it's ability :). I will be WELL worth the wait no doubt. :)
Boberro Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Hope nothing wrong.... I believe. But waiting for this patch is getting longer and longer.... Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
element1108 Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 The good news is it will most likely just come OUT. As did F.C 2...just CAME out...BAM! No "it will be available on Friday or Wednesday or tomorrow". I actually like it that way ;)
Total Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 LOFC2 took longer so they could make sure it was right. I would expect no less in quality assurance for the DCS compatibility patch. Changing one line of code can creat 100 other bugs. I'd rather wait and have it without those other bugs :D Take your time Matt :)
Avimimus Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Now: Didn't you guys of ED test the online compability before youre released FC 2.0 ? What is the story behind this ? FC 2.0 has a number of new features - it is actually somewhat more advanced than DCS:BS. Which means that DCS both needs an upgrade for online compatibility and gets an upgrade for "yipee! we get a bonus patch for DCS!"
Distiler Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 I guess that patching a game that has to be compatible with another game just released with it batch of minor known bugs is like doing a bugged patch in purpose, thinking that both will need another patch soon! I really hope this all ends well :D AMD Ryzen 1400 // 16 GB DDR4 2933Mhz // Nvidia 1060 6GB // W10 64bit // Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2
ED Team Wags Posted April 2, 2010 ED Team Posted April 2, 2010 Before we can release the Black Shark compatibility patch, we need to iron out some of the FC2 bugs that were identified post-release. The team is working as fast as they can to put FC2 to bed and allow us to move more resources on to A-10C. Again, when I know more I will post it. Lightning Posted April 2, 2010 Author Posted April 2, 2010 Thank you Wags for the news. Good work needs time, so please take all the time you need guys. We all are very happy, that compatibility between FC2 and Black Shark is possible at all. Its worth waiting a few more days or weeks if necessary. best regards, GSG_9_LIGHTNING [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
EtherealN Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Now that FC 2.0 has been released, we have to notice with raising eyebrows that this simply is not the fact and that there is another patch required. Now: Didn't you guys of ED test the online compability before youre released FC 2.0 ? What is the story behind this ? Actually, the fact that a patch would be needed to make DCS:BS compatible was advertised way ahead (months ago), and it is also simply obvious, you know. And remember that this isn't just a compatibility patch - it was announced before FC2 release that DCS:BS would, in that patch, hopefully get the new sound engine. And with any patch, you have to run QA to be sure you are not breaking something. So please understand that this isn't something that is necessarily done over a lunch break. ;) As for testing compatibility, I haven't verified if it was a joke or not, but there was someone that reported Ulrich logging into their FC2 server, flying a Ka-50. So I suspect they have it well in hand and just need time to do the work and QA, as well as straighten out the issues Wags mentioned. No surprise that BS needed patching for FC2 MP.

EtherealN Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 It has been the subject of discussion in both areas. :P And besides - we're talking about a patch to DCS:BS. Makes sense if said patch is discussed over there, no? ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
Toast Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Thanks for the news Wags. I am excited as everyone else. Perhaps we can be productive while we wait and think of how we will be able to coordinate with the fixed wing guys. Any ideas? I have heard of using smoke rockets to mark targets. Are there any aircraft that can share the datalink with the shark? (I doubt it but wouldn't that be cool?) So if not, how will we communicate target info. I know you can hit self coord and get your cooridantes then give range and heading info to target, or via visual refference to a known point. (North west of the comms tower.) Any other ideas? golfsierra2 Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 (edited) It has been the subject of discussion in both areas. :P May have missed it, probably buried somewhere in the 130+ pages threat 'Announcing FC2.0" And besides - we're talking about a patch to DCS:BS. Makes sense if said patch is discussed over there, no? ;) Never questioned that. But then the other way around: Do I have to read the DCS:BS forum section despite I don't have that sim and I'm not interested in helicopters ? Is that what you want me to tell ? To me, the announcement was such, that with FC 2.0 I could join DCS:BS server and fly against / with Black Sharks. There wasn't a single word about a necessary patch for DCS:BS to make that happen in Wags' statement which I referred to earlier. If there was, please show it to me. I can't find that piece of information. I'm not nitpicking here, but you put it as if it was a common known thing all the time, which it was not and it was never officially stated that way in Wags' announcement. EtherealN Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 If the question is about a patch release for a DCS product, then yes. ;) What I gather happened is something like this: 1) FC2 is announced, mentioning DCS:BS online compatibility 2) You like that 3) The patch and it's features is discussed on the DCS section 4) Since you don't run that one, you don't read that This is understandable, but I still think it fairly obvious that for getting questions answered that pertain to DCS specifically, that's the place. Though I do realize it may be a bit confusing since the two are linked here. But basically, since the change naturally has to happen in DCS:BS (since FC2 was developed after DCS:BS 1.0.1, compatibility has to "catch up" in DCS after FC2 release), that is indeed where those things happen. Ramstein Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Please, either way, just let them make the patch and make it a very good patch, and without any unecessary glitches.. we have the time to wait...... danny777 Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 ok heres a fair question, will it be available by the end of april? :)
Lightning Posted April 3, 2010 Author Posted April 3, 2010 (edited) Perhaps we can be productive while we wait and think of how we will be able to coordinate with the fixed wing guys. Any ideas? So if not, how will we communicate target info. I know you can hit self coord and get your cooridantes then give range and heading info to target, or via visual refference to a known point. (North west of the comms tower.) Any other ideas? Well as far as i know there is no Aircraft in FC2 which is capable to share the data link with the shark. But as you said there are several alternatives. 1. LUU Flares which shine with a bright white flame over the target area when dropped from high altitudes ( even night missions are possible this way without having FLIR or night vision ). 2. Smoke markers, which are placed from the mission designer to mark the target area which can be triggered by actions ...for example : if enemy vehicle group 01 is destroyed = activate orange smoke on new position at vehicle group 02 AND show a Textmessage for 20 seconds to tell everybody the new location of the new Vehicle group 02 ( simulated recon information ) The mission editor is very powerfull and allows a lot of simultanius actions. 3. Just by talking to people on the server by Teamspeak ( too bad we dont have Voice Over IP integrated into these Sim´s ... that would make communication much easier ! ) By the way WAGS , please can we have Voice Over IP in one of the next DCS Add Ons ? It could be integrated by an Update for FC2 and BS too, right ? Or is it technically impossible ? Edited April 3, 2010 by Lightning best regards, GSG_9_LIGHTNING [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
