DetroitDieseL Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 (edited) Have any of you guys noticed that when you eject your pilot will walk back to base. I ejected and my pilot walked back to base- took him 2 hours. Edited April 8, 2010 by DetroitDieseL If you want peace, prepare for war.... America's Armor Dev Notes AARM on Facebook Help Fund AARM

Dr_Watson Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 You have control of the pilot when he walks, up to you where you want him to go.
RedTiger Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 You have control of the pilot when he walks, up to you where you want him to go. Yeah, but if you leave him alone for a few minutes, does he start to hoof it back himself? For that matter...why happens if you eject and land near hostile ground units. Do they shoot at you?
Downey Jr. Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 lol this would be great for a dynamic campaign where keeping your pilot alive matters... you could infiltrate the enemy base on foot and then it turns into bad company 2

DetroitDieseL Posted April 8, 2010 Author Posted April 8, 2010 I didn't touch him. I made a pitstop after ejecting- came back and he was walking in first person. I hit F2 and panned back and he was heading towards Base. If you want peace, prepare for war.... America's Armor Dev Notes AARM on Facebook Help Fund AARM
deadsmell Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 (edited) DREAM ALERT!!!! DREAM ALERT!!!! DREAM ALERT!!! Just dreaming here, but I think it would be really cool, if at some point in the DCS series, Rescue and Recovery operations could be implemented. Pilot punches out, lands, waits for rescue. I think it would be really cool. This could be implemented as either an AI function, or have a an installment that includes a flyable rescue chopper, or both :) (i know i would fly rescue operations online anyway) Shot down pilot could deploy smoke when the chopper is near of course....perhaps. Servers could have rules that make it so ejected pilot has to wait for rescue...........and it could have some sort of time limit over ride, where if rescue doesnt come within a specified time limit, the pilot then gets the option to rcvr, or whatever. Ok I better stop myself there. Edit: Also for the sake of players, the return trip would not be necessary, once the rescue chopper successfully locates and lands near pilot, the pilot will be automatically restarted back at the base. This would cut down on players rescue wait time by sending them back to base once rescue arrives, and also keeping the rescue chopper in the area of operations longer since it does not have to transport pilots all the way back to base upon rescue. NERD ALERT OVER!!! Edited April 8, 2010 by deadsmell Dont let the smell get to ya...............
theGozr Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 (edited) Yes like in Black shark .. just use your joystick to direct the pilot :) Very cool But here look what is new That is a pilot animation ;) Edited April 8, 2010 by theGozr Fly it like you stole it..

topdog Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Don't think that it won't get noticed either - when I saw this in Tacview, I felt like I'd been busted by a CCTV camera.. Did you keep the track file? Would be awesome to be able to replay it, fast-forward to the auto-rotation landing, then see what's up and play around with it :) I didn't think of it myself at the time but will do from now on. Can't be worse than me attempting to 'walk home' to base one time heh. I didn't realise until later that my ejected pilot and forest wanderings were all captured in TacView at the same time though... I got a laugh out of seeing one of my apparently shattered pieces of shark stay in the track replay, and then start to scurry around on the ground like a small bug/insect hoping not to get noticed. Bucic Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 The pilot is controllable already so the only things missing which would allow players to play SAR missions are: enemy units shooting at pilot limited ability of enemy units to detect pilot outside the area of known crash site mission editor triggers "pilot picked up on board" and "pilot alive if SAR helicopter returned to base" ; "SAR helicopter emergency landing => pilot on his own again" pilot can launch a flare All of these look like it can be done with limited time spent on it. If player is using TS or Ventrilo radio comms are fine for this scenario. Boneski Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 TOO Funny!!!!!!!! Rep+1 for that!! LOL!! :pilotfly::lol: I didn't touch him. I made a pitstop after ejecting- came back and he was walking in first person. I hit F2 and panned back and he was heading towards Base. Well, I do that every morning.. My mission is to fly, fight, and win. o-:|:-o What I do is sometimes get a tin of soup, heat it up, poach an egg in it, serve that with a pork pie sausage roll.
sisifos Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 The pilot avatar is a ghost for anyone else except yourself, as soon as he touch the ground. I know it because yesterday both me and a friend ejected from our parked jets and try to take photos together in front of them. :) I shaw me but not him and vice versa. Lock-on in Greece
DetroitDieseL Posted April 9, 2010 Author Posted April 9, 2010 I wonder thou if they could implement it like 1946 when you eject in your territory your good to go, but captured if your across the line. It still counts as a eject and not a death, so I guess thats better then being dead. Going back to base has no effect on how it counts, unless your spotted by the enemy and get smoked by AAA or sam. I RTB'ed last night and refueled and rearmed (instant action) and I'm on the runway powering up my engines- a SU-30 comes along and strafes me with guns and kills me........I was like what, "Vulchers". Sabre-TLA Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 What did he do when he got back to base? Open a beer and toast his good fortune - lol? Maybe you could animate a welcome back party to celebrate his return. A little scripted scene: helicopter lands, rescued pilot walks out is cheered by squadron mates, fade to black...onto next mission. How about a gravesite beside the control tower which grows with every pilot death? Kind of a visual display of the success or failure of the compaign. Just thinking out loud no offense intended.
