SwingKid Posted April 27, 2005 Posted April 27, 2005 Some users have recently expressed interest in formal, official announcements from ED, of decisions regarding the Lock On v1.1 “Flaming Cliffs” add-on distribution and copy protection, and in particular, whether the CD-ROM version of the upgrade will use a different copy protection from that of the downloadable version. Although ED has not yet prepared or translated a formal announcement, and mere beta testers like myself cannot officially represent ED, interested readers may rest assured that ED has examined all possible options, and is excited to employ innovative new solutions under their all-new business model and distribution system. Every sold copy of the CD-ROM version of the Lock On v1.1 “Flaming Cliffs” add-on will be delivered with its own, unique copy protection. Some of the promised new features and advantages of the scheme include: - 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week immediate response to individual user feedback - consumes no disk space! Protection installed only once for all ED products - privacy! No need for an internet connection, spyware or registration - allows unlimited new hardware, - unlimited uninstalls and re-installs on a single PC, and - unlimited backups of the original CD for personal archival Users are advised and warned, however, that the new copy protection WILL require an additional item of hardware to be added to the user's set-up. ;) -SK
Pilotasso Posted April 27, 2005 Posted April 27, 2005 Some aspects of text above describing the copy protection to me are somewhat enigmatic to me: -unique protection on each CD? -occupies no hard drive space...but to my knoelege most other games that require to run the games from CD do not copy anything at all too! Even the protection files on the downloadble FC are very small! Now if your talking about installed drivers, thats an entire ball game ;) -Im confused as to a copy protection that allows backup the original CD and at the sime time prevent someone else use another copy on his PC. those are my doubts but Im already pleased that we get to be free from the activation procedure...thats certainly good knews! This is waht was worriyng me from the start... .
GGTharos Posted April 27, 2005 Posted April 27, 2005 I think the new CP is easy to circumvent: Just 'feed' the new hardware. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Conuk Posted April 27, 2005 Posted April 27, 2005 you know what they say about blokes with large bats... ahem.. ;)
SwingKid Posted April 27, 2005 Author Posted April 27, 2005 Some aspects of text above describing the copy protection to me are somewhat enigmatic to me: Disabled images on a forum without signatures? But... some pictures are worth a thousand words! This is what happens when I'm stuck late at the office. -SK
Pilotasso Posted April 27, 2005 Posted April 27, 2005 Believe me or not, Im serious...its probably a language barrier here but I cant quite get a grasp of this thread other than we gotten "perhaps" rid of the activation scheme... Thats good knews...oh BTW better keep working on those "metaphores"! .

olaleier Posted April 28, 2005 Posted April 28, 2005 Oh no, it's already been cracked. :( Either one of these hacks will distract the copy protection... I submitted both to Eagle for testing, but strangely I haven't got any reply yet...
Pilotasso Posted April 28, 2005 Posted April 28, 2005 I have noticed while searching the net for CD distribuition that there are a lot references to fake cracks...its a scam. youll end up bombarded by publicity popups or something. beware... .
