kingneptune117 Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 "The lightening pod" Can't wait, sounds incredible. Does anyone know if the LITENING pod image is displayed on the MFD or on the throttle. I don't know which one. F-16's were famous for using these in the gulf war I am not quite sure what you mean by displaying on the throttle? The image is displayed on an MFD, you can see it on the right MFD here: http://www.simhq.com/_commentary/images/all_101c_015.jpg The litening pod wasnt used in the Gulf War, F-16s were just CCIPing CBUs and Mavs back in those days [url=http://www.aef-hq.com.au/aef4/forumdisplay.php?262-Digital-Combat-Simulator][SIGPIC]http://img856.imageshack.us/img856/2500/a10161sqnsignitureedite.png[/SIGPIC][/url]

I meant to say hud. So your saying that they flew with their eyes glued to their MFD? also im not seeing any pics of an MFD with a litening image on it. That page provides me with links to different simhq articles. slug88 Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 That video shows a massive improvement in smoke effects compared to what we have now. Hope that part's representative of what we're getting in DCS! (Remember, that footage is all TBS, not DCS.) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Hope that part's representative of what we're getting in DCS! (Remember, that footage is all TBS, not DCS.) yes but in one of waggs interviews he said the graphics in DCS A-10C will be the same as TBS "When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return." - Leonardo da Vinci Intel i7-4790k | Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo heat sink | Thermaltake Core V71 case | 750W EVGA PSU | 8gb G.SKILL Ripjaws DDR3 RAM | MSI Z97 Gaming 5 LGA 1150 motherboard | Samsung SSD | ASUS STRIX GTX 970 | Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog | TIR 5 | Razer Deathadder | Corsair K70

Kaiza Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 (edited) o wow sorry that was stupid. I meant to say hud. So your saying that they flew with their eyes glued to their MFD? also im not seeing any pics of an MFD with a litening image on it. That page provides me with links to different simhq articles. Oh OK, the link was meant to go to one of the new A-10 pics. In all the cockpit pics we have seen so far it's presented on the right MFD. I highly reccomend the book "Vipers in the Storm" if you enjoy military aviation. Its a story of F-16s in the Gulf War. They searched with radar/ binoculars/ their eyes during the day. At night, they would work in pairs- one with pure CBUs and the other with Mavericks. Primarily they would use radar but the guy with the mavs would search/id targets using the mav head. EDIT: Perhaps you are thinking of LANTIRN, which was quite new when the Gulf War kicked off. Not many pilots were qualified in it, but it was used. Vipers in The Storm talks about this system too as the author was one of the few qualified in it.
