norm Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 This is something I have never gotten a satisfactory answer to. With Tracker IR, aren't you restricted to keeping your head so you can see the computer monitor? I have seen these things called vusex glasses or something, which you ware like regular glasses, and show the image right in front of your face, is there a way to use head tracking with these so you can have a spherical range of motion?
Waldo_II Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Move your head ten degrees in real life, and you move your head 80 degrees in the game. Unless your eyeballs are locked forward and cannot rotate for whatever reason, you can still turn your head and see the screen. 1
DTWD Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 What Waldo II says, you don't need the specs, whatever they are. TIR worked with accelerated/exaggerated movement. I have mine set quite sensitive so a few degrees of movement = a lot of in game movement, I also have a large monitor and site quite close to it. This all helps keeping your eyes on the screen. A smaller screen with very high acceleration will probably make it easier to see the centre of the screen though. After a bit you get so used to moving just a dash that it becomes second nature. I also use the "precision mode" key quite a bit, or even pause in quite a few instances, especially for using the Schval. Regards [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
MTFDarkEagle Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Yep, your headmovements are accelerated. It does take getting used to (in my case, it took 2 weeks or something). But once you are used to it, its brilliant :) Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread

pakfront Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 With Tracker IR, aren't you restricted to keeping your head so you can see the computer monitor? Essentially, yes. The IR Tracker (basically a webcam) has to be able to see the reflectors mounted on your hat/headphones. Most people mount the camera on top of their monitors and if they turn their heads too far to the side, or lean out of the camera's view, tracking stops. So, no, you don't get full spherical tracking. It's more like a half-hemisphere of tracking. That said, getting used to the 'exaggerated movement' only takes 20minutes or so and feels quite natural after that. I think using TrackIR with your glasses would work quite well.
Frederf Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 The whole TrackIR profile game is "mapping" as they say in the mathematical world. Linearity in most profiles varies widely. You can get very good results +/-135° yaw with minimal head movement. I have mine set up so that looking over my shoulder is limited by my physical body and comfort just as I reach about 135 from forward.

Frederf Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Do you know of anyone that has paired TrackIR-like device with wearable screens (800x600 per eye or above) in the entertainment-sim community?
isoul Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Actually the word "restricted" isn't compatible with Track-IR unless you are already using a better solution!
Bushmanni Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 TrackIR should make a driver software that would allow 1-3 trackers used simultaneously to cover the whole 360 degree sector and then someone should make a FullHD helmet display to go with that. That would be sweet. DCS Finland: Suomalainen DCS yhteisö -- Finnish DCS community -------------------------------------------------- SF Squadron

Maybe you could do that with the TIR camera mounted above you and point the LEDs upwards. Then just switch the axis around. Interesting idea! But then looking up/down and tilting left/right would be affected. I only respond to that little mechanical voice that says "Terrain! Terrain! Pull Up! Pull Up!" ZQuickSilverZ Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Ummm no. Putting on an HD helmet doesnt work. If your THAT intrested try an eMagin Z800 http://3dvisor.com/. It cost $1799 USD and has 360 degree tracking (6DoF), stereo vision, headphones and a mic, everything you asked for. It does'nt work for this simple reason. It blinds you to the rest of the world. You can't see your keyboard, your hotas, your mouse, or simpit controls if you have one. I used to think this was the greatest thing ever but after alot of thought TrackIR really is the way to go. Be patient I think when the price drops on those curved screens it will eliminate alot of the diorientation some people experience while using TrackIR. Just my thoughts. If this helped you can you add to my rep please im drowning here. I need, I need, I need... What about my wants? QuickSilver original. "Off with his job" Mr Burns on the Simpsons.
