SvenK Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Hello there folks, I´m Sven, and have been playing DCS Black Shark since this morning, and I´m already addicted! A fantastic game, I´m sure it will keep me flying for the coming months or years. I followed the newbies guide for this chopper ( which is really helpfull to noobs like me) and managed to park my KA-50 in a barn's lawn. I have not yet figured out how to work with the Vikhr but that will come with time. A salute to this great community! see you in the skies, Sven 1

TheMoose Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 Hi SvenK, Good to see you’re enjoying yourself. Welcome to the community. You will see in average, this community, are mature individuals (the mods usually takes care of that lol, doing a good job on this btw). We enjoy sharing with new members. Enjoy your stay, feel free to ask any questions as you see fit. I’m curious, have you started playing in the arcade style or full blown simulator? Both have a very distinct difference in game play. However no matter what your style is. Have fun. Thanks for the links, I already found the newbies guide, very helpful to get me in the air, still practising and trying to improve my G940 skills, I only got this system last weekend, still not used having both hands and your feet on devices to control your aircraft, but from what I experienced the G940 is far more effective here in KA-50 Black Shark then IL2 sturmovik for example. I can auto hover and shoot some targets with the small missile pod ( forgot the name), still having difficulties with the ViKhr Sven EDIT: Thanks Cat for the offer! I have a week off next week so I'll be practising a lot, If I run into serious trouble I will PM if you dont mind :P. Edited August 25, 2010 by SvenK It's just my civil duty
Avilator Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Welcome aboard! FYI, there is an entire thread on how to improve the G940. I only respond to that little mechanical voice that says "Terrain! Terrain! Pull Up! Pull Up!" SvenK Posted August 30, 2010 Author Posted August 30, 2010 After some days of flying I can now succesfully complete campaign missions, often my wingman gets himself killed, but then again it shows me the locations of anti aircraft emplacements. There´s this one mission though that I can not complete in the scripted missions. It´s called Battle, at first I am able to shoot some stuff on the ground and enjoy the fireworks but then some annoying Cobra´s think it is funny to strafe me with their guns, not after they shot their whole payload of missiles at me. So I restarted the mission, hit the Air to Air button next to the Ground target button, and started looking for the Cobra´s on my display, and I saw them buzzing around somewhere on the other side of the battle, but I couldn´t lock on to any of them, I could however lock on to some tanks when I hit the Ground Target button and let them explode with my Vikhr, any tips on how I can nail those Cobra´s? That would be much appreciated. Sven

power5 Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 A2A is very difficult. I have taken down a cobra in an online mission from about 7km using the a2a button. You have to be far enough away so that you can slew the shkval and lock the target. Too close and the target is almost impossible to get the target box on it. Use the Head on button so the vihkr will blow up if its close instead of a direct hit. I am pretty sure the only missile pod you have on your chopper is the vihkrs. Everything else is a dumb weapon. Only downside to BS is the lack of missions both online and off. The online servers seem to be limited to a few populated ones and almost always seems to be the same mission. JasonJ Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 Use your HMS (Head Mounted Sight) to lock up airbornes. Put the HMS 'h' in the area of the enemy and unacage shkval with 'o'. Hit lock 'Enter' once, then hold uncage 'o' whilst moving the HMS over the target. It should automatically lock onto it when you pass over it (because you pressed lock previously) providing the tracking gate size is approx the same size as the target. It takes a bit of practice. djdel002 Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 SvenK don't worry, I'm fairly new myself and just keep watching the videos and links that the folks here lead you to and you'll learn everything in no time. I am still terrible at flying, still not sure how to turn very well without losing control but the sim is awesome fun. Anyways welcome to the forums and happy to see another new pilot!
