ED Team Alex Okean Posted September 22, 2010 ED Team Posted September 22, 2010 Looks like your more advanced than I am in detailing your kits maybe you could give me a few hints about panel and rivet shading? I see pre shading on your A-7. Do you do shading on top of the final paint too? Cheers! :) I am not experienced with post shading. :) my usual technique is : preshading , base camo coat, clear acryl coat and then wash it with enamel paint to highlight rivets and panel lines ( but still need practice )
diveplane Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 My latest work: Still ways to go to perfect the finish techniques. The varnish distribution is not homogeneous. Next model will be Mig-29. nice work https://www.youtube.com/user/diveplane11 DCS Audio Modding.

Jinja Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 I love modelling and am currently building 1:48 F18-F, F-4II and EF2000 in parallel. The wife ain't too pleased... Here's the only pics of previous planes I've finished that I can find to hand, both of them 1:48 models from Academy and Tamiya. 2 i7@3.5Ghz, ATI 5870, 16GB RAM, win7 64bit, TH2GO, Track-IR, 4screen pit, TM WArthog HOTAS
Laud Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Great job Jinja! But I often notice that guys who have the skill to build very acurate seem to be a bit scared when it comes to weathering. Both aircraft would be even more outstanding if they would look like they were actually used. The brand-new-look make them look more like a model than an original. Dirt and wear give them the final touch and making the audience think "hell is that a picture of the real aircraft?". But leaving this weathering topic aside: Excellent! Really great!!! I'm desperately waiting for the weather getting a bit warmer again, so I can finish my Eurofighter and then start with my beloved F-14B VF-103. Can't wait... Jinja Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Yeah I know Jab, although that comment only holds valid for the Jug, ground crews probably wash F-22s every other flight! ;-) Both these planes were completed before my weathering skills developed. But it is (still) such a scary phase... you have a beautiful model infront of you after main-coat, panel-line wash, decls. And then you look at the risk of what a botched weathering phase will do... and maybe you've already spent 2-3 months on the build and you just want.The.Damned.Thing.Finished! And so you just convince yourself you were after a museum-piece finish all along! But I intend on going all-out on my SEAC Viet-era F4 for weathering. And it's my most complex build to date with lots of aftermarket resin... so I am pushing myself, and so looking forward to hopefully having something that I can show off! i7@3.5Ghz, ATI 5870, 16GB RAM, win7 64bit, TH2GO, Track-IR, 4screen pit, TM WArthog HOTAS
Jinja Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 (edited) :shocking: That's your build Jab??? I just coughed up a lung with admiration. You have really mastered the art, and I hope I can ever get close to those results. I'm half way through my Diamondbacks CAG 1:48 F18-F, I'm suddenly going to have to slow down and raise my game :) I'm sure I've read a build of this on the net elsewhere, am I right in saying the weathering uses paint dabbed on by sponge and then blended with AB?
