I have had enough. I have been obsessed with my multi monitor setup for a week now. I have tried every configuration, read dozens of articles on various websites and still not a dot on my second moniotor.

Really, this really should'nt be that hard. Why does FSX have the fascility to undock windows to another monitor with absolute ease?

Im now convinced its not my options.lau and monitor settings thats causing the problem. It has to be something to do with my graphics card or graphics card driver.

I just bought the all new geforce 470 gtx.

One monitor 1680*1050 and one 1250*1040

I just hope the developers of Black Shark update the undocking feature in a future patch.

Honestly, i need a rest with lau and config files for a while.

Do love Black Shark tho.

Yeah, its a PITA, I really hope WH is better and easier.

Make sure you are only editing the lua file and then do not touch the display config in game. I did manage to get mine working over a year ago. Then I reinstalled BS recently to start playing again and do not have that lua anymore. Not that I care much anymore as I believe trying to get multi mon setup in MP is even more difficult if not impossible.

giving up on multi monitor

Thanks for your reply Power. Honestly...i would love this to work and am giving myself a sore head over it ;o)

How can it be so difficult? I even copied someones lau file that had the exact same setup as me....useless.

Think ill take my puter to the local university and let some degree student sort it.

Bet he gives up too.

Ill try again soon.

Too bad you don't read Serbian language. My article on multimonitor setup was just published on Virtualcore web site. I read a lot about multimonitor setup on this forum, I tried it and it workd for me.

What I am saying is, it is very easy to setup two monitors, one showing the main screen and the other to show Shkval and ABRIS. Although, my video card is ATI 5850, but I don't think NVIDIA can not be made to work as well.

Few pictures of my setup.

That was the setup I used. Not same resolutions but small monitor for abris shkval and large one for main view. Though mine did not match in height. There used to be a very detailed write up on this site on how to write the lua file but I can not find it any more. Someone even made a simple excel file that allowed you to input your monitor dimensions and it would output the exact lua code needed.

I caught myself looking at the main screen abris more often than I thought still. And I had background clutter since the abris and shkval are different orientations. You get some junk in the void area where the shkval is not shown. Can be a bit distracting.

It's not the video card. You are just missing a step some where. It took me 3 seams to find what I was missing. When I get home I will look for the guide that helped me get it strait. Once you figure it out you will slap your head and say dam it, because you looked at it sevral times. It is very important to not miss a step. A missed step or an out of order one will render it inoperbull.

If I may chime in with my 2 cents, what file editor are you using? Something like Notepad++ is needed. There are others out there, but I can't remember their names. Maybe that is the issue?:dunno:

I have edited config files in win7 notepad with no issues. Not sure if I have done a lua file though. Sound files though. Are they different?

given up yet, if not then provide some more info if you want help

a bit rusty but i try and get it working for you.

what layout do you desire, eg: game on left, shkval and abris on right?

how is your desktop configured in windows display properties?

what windows are we talking about, xp, 7

from your options height is 1050, width is 3728 ??? alarm bells here

resolution is 1680x1050, that's right

"aspect" under visible range should be set to match the above game res and NOT the

full area aspect of your width/height as your 3.5 seems to be

other than that your options file at first glance looks ok

as for the monitor setup

i can see you have the center view x = 1024, moving the center view

1024 from the left.

this is not making sense unless you intend to place the shkvla and abris

to the left of your center view, but then why are you abris and shkval

x coordinates set up to display them on the right???

the abris starts @ 2704

the shkval start @ 3216

you dont have that much real estate to start with ???

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

get back to basics - lets do a simple config

set up windows to display you main screen on the left and your

secondary screen to the right, extended or whatever it's called in your system

in monitor config

get rid of center x=1024, set it to = 0

this will place your center view starting top left on your 1680x1050 monitor

then edit the x = values for both abris and shkval to line up with your second screen on the right.

you say 1250x1040, lets assume thats 1280x1024

something like:

shkval

x = 1685

abris

x = 2200

you can keep the rest of your setting for these items, (y position, height and width)

in options.lua

set it to height = 1050

and a width = (both screen x pixels added together) eg: 1650 + 1280 = 2930

also set the aspect to 1.6 and leave full screen set to false

these figures should get you in the ball park, and can later be edited for accurate positioning

give that a go and get back with your results and more info and we can customize a config

that suits your layout, it is confusing @ 1st, just depends how bad you want it :D

remember if all else fails start with fresh copies of both options and monitor config files, it's very easy to mess them up by leaving out a simple colon or comma, and they can be a show stopper.

also ensure you are selecting the correct monitor config file

(in the "in game" options options) :D

just under where you usually select you resolution

Also the name on the file does not match the name in the multy moniter setup they shuld match so it know witch file to look for.

Another thing that will help with the multy player GUI, Is make sure the botoms of your two moniters match in windows setup. You will have to ajust the Y to account for the drop from the top missing. 1050 - 1040 Y=10 For a mental image,

We will use the ABRIS if you want the ABRIS next to the center screan. The top left corner in what you enter in. That is where it will start the hight and with discribe the size the ABRIS will be from that point. So X=1680 Y=10 hight = 768 width = 512. Your total screan width is 2,960 you have placed the shkval 3216 off the screan and the ABRIS at 2704 barly on it.

I hope this gives you a better idea of how to place the two screans.

If you second screan is set up to the left of you main screan use the (-) in front fo the numbers for the placment of the ABRIS and shkval

giving up on multi monitor

Hi....again thanks for your patience.

Ive changed my settings as you advised. Unfortunately still not getting anything on second monitor.

Ive setup main monitor (1680) on the left and 2nd monitor on right (1280)

Nvidia settings are set to extended.

Windows 7 ultimate 64

Geforce 470 gtx

Resolution set to 1040x768 on both screens (before game starts)

What resolution should i opt for in game options?

Should i run phantom monitorfix.exe before game starts?

I will get there in the end with a little help from my flying friends :music_whistling:

Walker is right. Don't change any seting in windows befor starting the game.

Make sure you select the file in options for the setting and select the total resalution for the two monitors I belive you have 2930.

PS: pleas grab a SS of your options page and your windows screen setup page

Some notes:

* Later patches of the game do not require the phantom screen as this was addressed and fixed. You original scripts used a phantom area (since then rectified) and you do not need to run Phantom fix.exe

* Even if you have the monitor setup file incorrect and only the options.lua file is correct you should still see the multiplayer main menu screen stretch across both screens. Try load the multiplayer game menu as a test.

* You have attached screen shots of the lua files, that's fine. You can zip both files if you want to upload them here, but from the screenshots I can't tell the name of the monitor setup file you have used. IT MUST BE NAMED IN THE MONITOR FOLDER "My_Monitorsetup.lua" - the same name you have used in the options.lua line:

        ["multiMonitorSetup"] = "My_Monitorsetup"

If the name of this monitor setup file is incorrect then BlackShark will not load the Abris/Shkval settings to make the second screen work.

.

Resolution set to 1040x768 on both screens (before game starts)

* As just posted above, it is better that you setup Windows to 1680x1050 and 1280x1024. Also in this configuration the multiplayer menu screens will work better because your heights are similar on both screens.

* Another thing, if you start on the Ramp with systems off, the ABRIS and shkval will NOT be visible until you power up the systems.

Giving up on multi monitor

When i use windows for every day use, i have the resolution set to maximum 1680. I read (touchbuddy.com) that when i start Black Shark i should change windows settings to 1024 (on both screens)

Snag is, sometimes when you take a bit of info from here and a bit of info from there, you end up with a mess. This should'nt be the case now as i,ve changed things only to match what i've been advised in the last couple of posts.

So here's my windows and BS screen shots.

Jasonj....I have not updated Black Shark to the later patch. The reason for this is that i wanted the built in tutorial videos to learn. (these are lost when the patch is applied, i believe)

I have changed my windows res to 1680 on main and 1280 on 2nd monitor as you advised.

I am going to update Black Shark to the later patch. I will also test the multi player screen to see what happens. (never tried that)

stand by.

Ok things are moving in a possitive direction (kind of)

This morning i installed the 1.0.2 patch. I started to get errors on loading.

I managed to get into the options screen of the game and change the resolution to the highest setting 1680. Bingo....i got the shkval and abris on the 2nd monitor (along with the stretched bs background)

Great i thought.....but since then.....i cannot get back into the options screen because of these errors.

I get no errors on version 1.0 but script errors on version 1.0.2

What has the patch changed?

Is it anything to do with Win 7 64 bit?

Patch seams to have fixed the multimonitor problem tho.

Sorry about all this.
