Maulkin Posted May 15, 2005 Posted May 15, 2005 I seem to get this strange problem where any terrain in a distance will get these 'lines' (for lack of a better term) that will shift around as my perspective moves: I have tested this on two completely different systems and have seen the same thing on both: System1: AMD Athalon 3000+ XP, Asus A7N8X, ATI 9800 Pro AGP, Windows XP Home service pack 2. System2: AMD Athalon64 3500+ XP, Asus A8N SLI Deluxe, ATI 850XT Platinum Edition PCI-E, Windows XP Home service pack 2. Both systems were set up as follows with no AA or AF in the device driver (although I do still see it if both are enabled to any degree). Currently using Cat5.3 drivers but have seen it in all previous drivers. The only thing that seems to lower the effect is if I turn off advanced haze in the game config: I first saw this with LOMAC version 1.02 but I still see it in the demo of FC 1.1. Cant say for the retail version of FC as I am waiting for the CD to come in the mail ;). I dont have a viable nVidia card to see if it happens on those. Anyone know what is causing this? --Maulkin Windows 10 64-bit - AMD Ryzen 9 5900X @ 3.7 GHz - 32 GB DDR4 3600MHz RAM - EVGA FTW3 RTX 3080 - Asus Crosshair VIII Hero motherboard - Samsung EVO Pro 1 TB SSD - TrackIR 4 Pro - Thrustmaster Warthog - Saitek rudder pedals - Lilliput UM-80/C with TM Cougars
KuostA Posted May 15, 2005 Posted May 15, 2005 I get this too, though to a lesser extent (I do Have AA and AF enabled, so that may have cured the effects of it a bit). Any ideas as to how this could be further eliminated? I think this is just a lomag graphics engine "bug"...similar to the way the overcast clouds are rendered; with many visible layer after layers.
S77th-GOYA Posted May 15, 2005 Posted May 15, 2005 I've had it with both ATI and nVidia. And still have it with a 6800.
Maulkin Posted May 15, 2005 Author Posted May 15, 2005 Well that is a relief. Thought I was going crazy.. Thanks :) --Maulkin Windows 10 64-bit - AMD Ryzen 9 5900X @ 3.7 GHz - 32 GB DDR4 3600MHz RAM - EVGA FTW3 RTX 3080 - Asus Crosshair VIII Hero motherboard - Samsung EVO Pro 1 TB SSD - TrackIR 4 Pro - Thrustmaster Warthog - Saitek rudder pedals - Lilliput UM-80/C with TM Cougars

Nate--IRL-- Posted May 15, 2005 Posted May 15, 2005 It think everybody gets this, however it was not present on my old GF4200 (9800pro now). Only happens with advanced haze. Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading

Han Posted May 16, 2005 Posted May 16, 2005 It is unfixable bug with cirrus clouds shadows. Sorry. With Best Regards! Daniel Tuseyev Il-2: Battle of Stalingrad and Rise Of Flight projects manager
Pilotasso Posted May 16, 2005 Posted May 16, 2005 I have it too plus the black outlines on beaches far away. .
KILSEK Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 Hi all. It is unfixable bug with cirrus clouds shadows. Sorry. My apologies for bringing up and old topic. Thanks Han for the answer. I have seen that and always thought it was my system. Thanks for verifying and clarifying. -KILSEK
KuostA Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 Definitely not the reply I was looking for, but thanks for the clarification.
Joe Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 Yuck. So cranking the AF to an obscene level does nothing? SimHQ Technology Editor TSH member
Mustang Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 *BUMP* heres another example for u guys, took this screenshot during an online game a few nights ago on the 169th_Dedicated server Video Card : X800XT AGP with 5.9 Catalyst, 4xAA 8xAF 1280x960x32
Guest EVIL-SCOTSMAN Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 i got it aswell. never seen it that bad tho ^, or maybe just never noticed it was that bad :S
Gazehound Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 Looks like youre better without 'advanced haze'. VVS504 Red Hammers
KILSEK Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 Hi all and Gazehound. Han says it has to do with the Cirrus Cloud shadows. So maybe disable shadows and the problem would "disappear". I have the day off so I will be playing here shortly. I'll try different shadow settings, check it out and see what's what. I have been using advanced haze after I read awhile back that basic haze has an effect over runway lights that advanced haze fixed. -KILSEK
Mustang Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 it doesn't do it all the time, just in certain situations and briefly at that....the screenshot makes it look worse than it is
britgliderpilot Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 Why is it not fixable? Presumably in the same way that the fully active shadows are so blocky - neither of them are perfect, and it would appear that neither of them can actually be changed by ED. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg
enigma6584 Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 You really don't notice it unless as already mentioned under certain circumstances and if you are looking for it. I personally chalked it up to a video driver issue. Now I know better.
Eltra Posted September 24, 2005 Posted September 24, 2005 ... from the moment i knew the fact that it is not my hardware or software (those parts that i can influence) it was only 10 % of the pain then before... :D Greetz, Eltra
