Ells228 Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 (edited) I started using this last night...very helpful. What's been updated since the last version? Thanks for you efforts ;) Sorry Darren, I missed this one. I added a shutdown procedure too. I like to make sure all switches are reset back to normal ready for the next guy in the jet  I'm going to add a pre-startup page also based on the flight manual (check all switches). GorT Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 when i choose to do the landing mission it gives me this error.. others work ok..dont know.. The landing mission has not been added in as yet on this version of the beta. Next patch possibly. Don't ask me for advice on these Two Subjects: 1.. How to Take Off in the Dora! 2.. Topcat357 Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 I agree here...There should be a way to repeat the previous instructions during a training mission. So many times I have become a bit lost with the instructions...only to have them disappear from the screen, leaving me with no idea what to do to continue. I do use Pause while I read. I know there is an Active Pause, but I have not used that yet. TC Option 1b. Repeat training mission parts. May be difficult by I would like to have the maverick mission reread the employment section to me. I follow along at first, then when I start trying to line up and fire, I forget some of the commands. So I have to mess around till I get it, or restart the mission from the runway. Annoying to fly back to same spot. But gives time to practice other steps of combat. Lots of the missions have stuck arrows for me and not able to finish the class.
EvilBivol-1 Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 (edited) Thanks for all the feedback. Very nice to be able to work directly with the community to get ideas for features. Regarding the option to repeat instructions, one idea is to use more widely a method that is already used for some triggers - to proceed to the next step when commanded by the player pressing the Space (or other) key, assuming he has also setup the avionics correctly for the step to proceed. We considered this, but to me it appeared to make the overall training experience feel more computerized and less "alive". Topcat357 Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 (edited) I understand what you mean. I really enjoy the first Training Missions with the Voice-Overs. The space bar does kill the immersion somewhat. Perhaps if the text could remain on the screen until the objectives have been achieved. It would be nice to be able to repeat the instructions if we have made a mistake, but my biggest problem is having the instructions disappear before I have completed the training objectives for that step. I realize there are many talented sim pilots who will breeze thru the training missions with no problems. For the rest of us poor noobs, the Training Missions are the Gateway to this sim. I know that this is Beta and the Training Missions may not be Top Priority at the moment, I just felt like passing along some humble input for the future :) TC MB: ASUS P5N-D CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 @ 2.83GHz Memory: 4MB DDR2(PC2-6400) OS: Win7 x64 Home Premium Video: Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX+ (1G) @ 1920x1080 (60Hz) Thanks for all the feedback. MainSail Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 To all, feel free to make a suggestion regarding this point. Which do you prefer: 1) Training lesson is over, but mission continues as "free flight" with no instructor 2) Training lesson is over, mission is closed automatically to the main menu I prefer number 1. Let the instructor say that you are on a free flight and that you can quit anytime pressing the escape key. OldCrow47 Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Go to "free flight" so I can try the lesson objective again on my own. I was wishing I could last night!! Jim i7 920, 6G DDR3, EVGA X58, 2-GTX285 SLI, Win 7 64
MagnumHB Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Another problem related to the disappearing instructions is that they can also be superseded by a reminder to maintain a flight parameter and don't return afterward.
Quid21 Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 The only thing I could suggest is that you ensure your stick is properly calibrated. I concur with the previous poster, my ailerons both stick up slightly in flight whether it be on the ground or in the air. Joystick is calibrated. If it's normal then cool. How do I activate the pinkie switch on the left side of the throttle in the start up training mission - I can't seem to find anything to click on? Was something to do with the lights if I'm not mistaken.
Agiel7 Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Is the EAC step to the start-up the switch that's obscured by the throttle? I can adjust my view to see the switch, but the switch doesn't advance the sequence.
Agiel7 Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 One more thing, the throttle on my Saitek Cyborg V.1 doens't work (What? I'm a university student with not a lot of disposable income, plans for grad school, and surely an insurmountable debt to pay off once I'm out in the work force). I find this odd since the stick worked absolutely swimmingly with Jane's F/A-18 and Falcon 4.0. For now, I've been using the +/- keys, which isn't exactly the most ergonomic solution.

Navigate to your Optios/Controls screen. From the drop-down menu, ensure 'A10C-SIM' and 'Axis Commands' are selected. In your Flightstick description block (assuming will be Saitek Cyborg), select 'Throttle Common' block entry and press 'Clear'. By default mine is 'Joy_Slider 1) Once block cleared, select 'Add'. The 'Add assignment panel' will now pop up. Move your throttle to and fro and the SIM should automatically pick it up and assign the axis (mine is Joy_Z). Press 'OK' to save. Let me know if that's understandable/works or whether screenshots will aid further. Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? Click me to commence your Journey of Pillage and Plunder! Do the ailerons droop or stick up as part of the TO trim?
Quid21 Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 I believe mine are like that before clicking that button.
robmlufc Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 I think it defaults to T/O trim when you enter the sim, if you run the HUD BIT (cant remember its name!) it tells you to set T/O trim and neutral yaw trim but just skips past to the next test, as if T/O trim is already set.
Sarge55 Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 There's a couple of training sections where the instructor has you doing various things and fly the plane all the while maintaining a specific speed and altitude etc... all well and good if you have a fair amount of experience with sims. But not for the new or faint of heart. The unguided bombs lesson is a good example. Rather than have you take off and maintain a certain climb rate and speed etc and then set profiles on the MFCD. Why not do that (set profiles) on the ramp so a noobie can focus on the task then take off (another skill to test) and drop some bombs on a clearly marked nearby target range. I thought one of the best training sections ever done was the one for the shkval (sp?) and LLTV for the Su-25T in FC. You were static on the ramp and there was all kinds of targets in the distance including a Ka-50 moving back and forth for practice before you took off. Break it into smaller chunks at a time and seperate teaching points before moving to the next. I like the hit spacebar when ready function by the way. Today i "flew" the NAV training mission and somewhere along the road it went wrong because the script expect a certain input but because the text had gone, i didn't know what to do anymore. The highlighted button to press was gone also maybe because i pressed a wrong button after i pressed the highlighted one. Idea's: - Only remove the text if trainnee accomplish the tasks correctly. - If no input is needed, pressing the spacebar after the trainnee had enough time to read and "understand" what was written (because everyone is not a native english speaker and has to read it again to understand it 100% or because one wants to look something up in the manual). That it is more computerised is not the point, it's for learning purposes anyway! - Speeding up the training mission to a desired point so one does not have to sit through the entire mission for something that was not understood at the end...(maybe difficult if input is needed to proceed). - For me, no voice is needed, only text is fine, perhaps this makes it a bit simpler. - Please make sure that the text refers "exactly" to what is mentioned in the manual. I haven't come across any problem in the NAV training mission but i do had some problem in the MAV section of the manual saying to press TMS Forward Short while i don't have that one listed in my controls page. I do have Up/Down/Left/Right. Makes it confusing... Lange_666 Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 May i add that if things in these training missions go wrong, people can get frustrated. I'm a little bit frustrated right now after going through the Navigation Training Mission, or better, through part of it. After setting the TACAN to 16X (Bantumi if i'm correct) i get to hear the radiobleeps of this TACAN signal but then what...? How long one has to wait until there is more action or another textmessage appears? It's the 4th time now:pilotfly:that i have set the TACAN to the 16X channeland that nothing happens...:music_whistling: --> :book: --> --> :( --> (<-- don't take this personal, it's just my state of mind atm) Some of the messages disappear quickly like the one which confirms that the TACAN is set and others last long (even with only one line of text) which can make you think you have done something wrong. So, an interaction with the spacebar would help a lot and makes you interact with the training, confirming that done what was asked. I do understand that this will not work everytime, like in bombing missions where you have to be over a target to actualy bomb it but then a message could say that you are still enroute and no action is required... shu77 Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 Not sure if its been mentioned in the last 13 pages, but I thought I would throw a comment out there about the Take Off Training mission. It would be quite useful I think if it picked up from the RAMP where the start up mission ended, as it stands you go from having a running engine to being lined up and ready to depart, so it feels like theres a whole section (get clearance to taxi, test brakes, check RPM does not exceed 75% on a 2 second burst, use entry point A etc) that is missing. Just a comment rather than a criticism, having a blast with these missions so far. Highwayman-Ed Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 (edited) I can't get past the close canopy section of the A10 start up training mission. It says right click and hold the close canopy switch, but that does nothing, I close the canopy with the keyboard which is fine, but then nothing happens after that. THere is still a yellow highlight box around the close canopy switch, tried everything, no luck so far. I switched on the APU and then the tutorial seems to continue with the engine start but the engines don't start as there are a few steps missed out. Win 7 64 bit, Cd2 E8500, GTX470, GB Ram. I ran into the same issue as this and found out when messing around in the cockpit later on that the canopy open / close is mapped to the Seat height adjustment switch on the left side of the canopy frame.
