This might have been brought up before. Since FC i find it hard to locate these F## keys on my keyboard (specially at night) to control the radio.

Now that we have a HOTAS switch for radio tuning how about if we could use the same switch to select the radio items. Like eg. when the radio is selected use another button of this switch to scroll down. Then make a selection with another button from this switch. And again scroll down and make a selection of the radio command. So everything HOTAS, all to our convience.

Koyan's idea is great

I use an X-52, my 2nd mode is for comms and I have f1-f6 bound as the stick's toggle buttons, then F7-F12 bound as the same toggles plus pinky switch.

Trying to figure out which combo I hit to send F9 in combat has killed me a half dozen times, not to mention it takes two hands!

+1 for the idea.

I was thinking about creating a thread about this "missing feature".

I haven't gotten as far as playing with the radio yet so I don't know if this will work, but the way I used to have my pit set up for Falcon was that my ICP (which was made from an x-keys pro 58-key) numbers were the same as the radio item list numbers. So I'd call up the radio menu and then hit the button on the ICP, whose keystrokes were intercepted when the radio menu was up.

+1 also, having to take my hand off the throttle to tap F1 to confirm the next part of a refuel or a JTAC is a major pain. Being able to scroll through OP Flashpoint style would be awesome.

But as Fish says, please don't remove the default mapping.

BTW: not sure if it has been brought up yet or not, but Great Sim!

Sounds like a great idea.

Would be nice to map to throttle mic so that a press in activates coms, then a scroll down to submenu, press again, and so on with a final press sending the message.

It's very clunky to send any messages atm which hits on the fun factor.

Even better would be voice recognition so that you just had to say "wingman (pause) engage ground targets"

I used to use game commander or something years ago which worked pretty well for the time. The only problem was I could say 'flaps down' or something and it would ignore me.

My girlfriend who was downstairs could shout 'eject, eject' and it would instantly bail me...not good

Friend of mine did a voice thing for EVE Online once. He asked me over to take a look at it. He showed me how he could say "fire missiles" and his missiles would fire.

He asked "Isn't that cool?" to which I responded "Self destruct!" and he did. :)

Check the links in my sig for information about VAC .. it gives very good voice control options. Look at the VAC FC2 link below. I put together a profile that allows you to speak in plain English to each wingman. It took several hundred commands, but was better than Wingman (pause) one (pause) Engage (pause) ground targets .. Instead, each voice command runs a 4 to 8 command macro... "Wingman one engage ground targets" does exactly that.

The only VAC profile I currently have for DCSA10 is checklists. I'm waiting for gold to finalize all of my A10 profiles.

It's a good thing that this is Early Access and we've all volunteered to help test and enhance this work in progress... despite the frustrations inherent in the task with even the simplest of software... otherwise people might not understand that this incredibly complex unfinished module is unfinished. /light-hearted sarcasm

This is one of the best suggestion I've heard of so far.

The mic switch should be working as it it now. Forward is AM, down is UHF and back is FM.

But after the comm menu is open, you use up and down to scroll up or down (obviously), and forward to confirm/select and back to cancel/close.

Please please ED, make this happen! This would be a really useful feature for both A-10C and Black Shark

Yeah, i'm thinking about such a keyboard too. But then, i have not enough room in front of me. My keyboard is on a table to my left. I can find F1 and F2 blindly but higher than that it gets complicated :)

Thanks all for the support

On second thought this might open a can to more radio messages as well. Now it is limited to 12 keys. Doesn't the military readback messages? Always when tower says to 'taxi to' or 'cleared take off' i want to 'Roger' that but it's yet missing.

Really a great idea I think, I was actually just having a play with setting up a JTAC, and you really have to head over to the keyboard a lot before you're in hot.

The menus all stay up on screen and automatically change depending on context, so it'd be a natural progression to be able to just scroll through, then use the mic in switch (on the TM Warthog :P) to send the comm.

Here's my VAC profile. Open it up in the builder to get the feel of it.

Generally you can say what's on the radio list, with 3 exceptions:

- I didn't do any of the JTAC menus, since those are contextual.

- I changed the wording of some of the radio items that aren't realistic ("I'm lost" vs. "Alpha check home plate") or poorly translated

- None of the individual receivers (Wizard, Soganlug, etc.) are supported, obviously

To get around that, I have fallback commands "one" through "ten" to select items from the list. So, if you wanted to ask Wizard what the bogey dope is, you can say "AWACS one request bogey dope" (assuming Wizard is AWACS #1).

You could also concievably do JTAC this way, but it's going to sound like "JTAC two one five" or something indecipherable. Still might beat using the ol' fingers.

Two prevent these numbers from conflicting with your flight member numbers, you reference your wingman with "two from one" and your element with "three from one". So you can say "two from one break left".

Very much WIP, let me know your suggestions.

Awesome! Thanks. maybe post in the Profiles section as well. Small suggestion so as not loose realism-maybe refer to menu items as 'Menu 2," and leave flight member number as '2' etc.
