For those of us who just like a flight simulator!

Hello there Musty :)

I had no time to spare the team so I had to tell Matt to remove me as it was wasting EDs time having me as a passenger!

Well, for the other posts, I did say it was a waste of time asking but I could not help but to ask ;) I have FSX 2004, Falcon 4, SF, Flaming Cliff 1and 2 Lock on 1.02, Flanker 1.5 and Flanker 2, Black Shark, Janes USAF, Janes F18, IL2 (all of them) and WOE. Oh I also have EAW and EDs A10.

Eh hem...now then....all I do with them all is just fly around not because I can't work out how to fight (although the ED simulations are hard for me as with Falcon 4) it is against my beliefs to kill anyone either in reality or in cyber space. I just have a facination for aircraft and in particular military aircraft.

I have done mods or artwork for most simulations out there and incidently FSX doesn't come close to EDs flight simulation, nor does Falcon 4 so that is why I play EDs simulations when I get time, which is'nt much these days.

Greetings to you all.

Mizzy

Hi Mizzy,

I cant se what you are doing wrong :D In my world you take the sim as fare "you" want and if that include - non fighting, why not. It`s all about what you want :D

Up there the world is divided into bastards and suckers. Make your choice.

So you never played games like Doom or other games where you need to shoot or kill creatures / humans? What are you playing besides Freeflight? Racing Games, where you can hurt (virtually) people much?? Or Sports games...*without Boxing of course*..:D

If you are into just flying and want a challenge why not consider attempting formation/aerobatic flying. It is a huge challenge and requires countless hours of dedication to the cause, and patience is key, but the benefits you reap are the satisfaction of mastering controlled flight and the enjoyment of meeting really great people doing what they love. We need more good formation fliers that's for sure. I fly formation in fc1.12, not many people on there any more but enough to keep it alive. Soon I will be switching to fc2 where the berkuts phantom has moved to which means more opportunities to master your skills. If there's anyone out there who is still playing fc1.12 who wants to try this drop into hyperlobby, I'll be around and probably a few others.

Aplologies lads and lasses, I probably have made too much of an issue of my non combat interest in simulated flying!

I have no issue with people enjoying their flight simulations in whatever concept they like to play them. Who am I to criticise anyone ;)

I believe that ED has created the best flight sims ever, that is just my opinion. It just happens to be military orientated and that is also where my interest is. No big deal surely how we all appreciate individually a wonderful product of flight simulation. Yes I have tried Xplane but it is not as good as flying the Su25 or A10 that ED have produced and also the environments that ED create in their maps are just second to nobody.

OT: I remember flying Flanker many years back and thinking, wow I like this! It's a shame that many of the old ED team are long gone now, but as a Company their values have remained the same. We should be very proud of ED/TFC to stay with us and believe there still is a market for what they specialise in, so small as it is.

I am surprised they (ED) are still willing to produce such high demanding flight (combat) simulations for such a small audience although I understand that their talents benefit military markets as well. Short end to this monologue, thank you Igor/team and TFC, may your future visions prosper.

A grateful Mizzy

The amusing part of reading through this thread is that I have basically posted the opposite over at the X-plane forums before. I think X-plane as a world and aerodynamics simulator has a lot of promise. If you could utilise it as a combat sim engine and concentrate on system modelling it would be awesome. but if you mention it over there you are shouted down by the pacifists, in the most illogical and violent fashion. In the end I gave up on the XP forums for that very reason, and yet here we have a pacifist asking virtual combat pilots how to make the game less aggressive and getting pages of polite well thought out responses :) its a funny old world we live in ;)

If you want a sim that has a great flight model AND many planes, go and download this demo and give it a try: http://riseofflight.com/tryrof/en

It still IS a combat sim (ww1), but it is foremost a flight sim about the planes and the flight models.

The demo only has 2 planes I think, but the full version has 8. Plus another 12 you can buy later.

And the difference between the two communities? Catharsis! Just use the gau8 avenger on a column of tanks and try telling me you don't feel better.:joystick:

You don't read too well do you!

"I have no issue with people enjoying their flight simulations in whatever concept they like to play them. Who am I to criticise anyone"

I am not asking anyone to be less aggressive or more aggressive or play with their joysticks in a certain fashion. Read what I said, I don't care how other people like to play their flight simulations that is up the the individual just as it is up to me how I want to use EDs products.

As for playing Doom or the like, no I have never played these types of games, they hold no interest for me. They are aimed at adolecent boys and I don't fit that description.

Move along people, nothing more to see here :)

Absolutely. Heh we use Lock-On for a completely different purpose than it was intended, because it's the best platform for what we do! :D

Very interesting Mizzy. I can see where your coming from, I love the thrill of combat, seeing all those little systems come together in order to get that AGM-65 downrange, but flying too is a lot of fun.

I was just never got into FS2004 much, I've flown a Cessna 172 in real life, lots of fun.....not so much pretending I'm flying it.

I think what Shu was getting at was that you have received a more polite response from combat sim fans, whereas he received agressive responses from non-combat sim fans. He was just pointing out the irony. :)

I am new to this forum but before and since buying the Beta have read through many posts, and I must say I am impressed with the mature and helpful attitude of the whole community. I remember my Battlefield 2 forum days... never again.

What's wrong with blowing people up? If they are dedicated in "their" cause to killing you, you have to "stop" them before they can accomplish their goal. Conflict has been a huge part of human evolution and no matter how much we "wish", it isn't going anywhere in the foreseeable future.

I do enjoy military flight simulators more than civilian. While sometimes it's fun to go from point A to point B and enjoy the scenery, I like the more technical aspect of accomplishing a mission etc.

It does not only require time and dedication, but also people willing to, a schedule that fit a woman willing to comply with the schedule and a conexion that is par to the task, and the last doesn t involve only money.

So for me its no game, and to be honest i m not sure i would enjoy it that much.

Would i do a comparison:

Flying only is like doing jym, you get fit... ok, flying formation is liky doing gym with someone, you get fit and can chat, ok. But why not doing jym with someone and have chat while learning self defense.

Martial arts: You do Jym, you chat, and you learn something that can be usefull, and even may earn money with ?

The hard part is earning money simming...:(

True succellus, it's sure not for everyone. Luckily my wife seems to be tolerating it (just wait till I ask her if I can build a pit). As far as time goes I know what you mean, I work a very variable schedule, some weeks I work 7 days and 12hr days, other weeks barely any at all, so my hours spent flying are all over the place. Luckily I fly with someone who can tolerate this. For me formation flying is self improvement and mastery. It is something all combat pilots must be able to do, maybe not at the same level as the patriots, but the ability to stay in a tight formation can prove to be a significant advantage in battle. Additionally, the satisfaction I get on a good day is incredible, and on a bad day it's a learning experience. I'm not trying to convince everyone to become formation fliers, but there may be a select few who are inspired to achieve this level of flying.

Also, when I'm having a bad day in combat I can come back to formation flying to help bolster my ego :D

Flight formation sure is a necessary skill to any pilot, you cetainly strat to put the beast were you want when you want.

Its strange but for me WW2 formation is more appealing than modern formation. Maybe my IL2 time, but i find it more... sexy.

Seeing 2 or 3 propeller formation is always something that i look in envy, IRL.

I can agree with that. I've done many routines with the Virtual Horsemen P-51 team in IL2, and it's so much fun...different challenges than our jets. :)

Can I try formation flying with you Blade?

I have some skill in flying but never played online so i don't know how to play online. I have a head set and a broadband connection and would like to speak and play with such skilled pilots. This really interests me.

PM me or email.
