MackTheKnight Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 That said, either way, it's a flaw that needs sorting. Couldn't agree more!
jerda Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 when they said 'rare' - i think they meant the throttle was 'Cooked just a short time so as to retain juice and redness' - secretly meaning that they did not cook it long enough... just a theory.
Yoni63 Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Just got my replacement throttle back this week, but out of town and can't enjoy.. Anyhow, I have been leaving mine plugged in straight into the USB ports on the tower. I'm not going to do that now. TM didn't offer any advice, but I sure don't want to go through having to ship it back again. MTFDarkEagle Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 I unplug mine after shutdown, and plug it in after startup.. perhaps that's the solution? Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread
Yoni63 Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Gosh I sure hope so. I know when I get back home, I'm going to be one nervous cat. I'll probably just sit there and look at it afraid to plug it in. I've been away and looking over the forum, it looks like we are still wondering what is going on with it. I'm assuming it will have the new firmware updated out of the box? Anyone that has received a replacement know on this? MackTheKnight Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Curious to see if anyone will speak-up that has had theirs fail but has been leaving it unplugged when not in use... Anybody out there? I'll continue to leave mine unplugged when not in use just in case... better safe then sorry. :) -Mack

Succellus Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Well since poor /old(i mean well used) PCU/mainboards are able to let inicial spiking to components, i would guess that after some seconds you can plug it safely as energy will have stabilized. If energy is real issue. Some people use powered USB HUB i think i ll do that as i own one. (if cable extension permit.) Yoni63 Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Ok, one last question....The Hotas throttle is out of the box. I'm assuming it's updated already, so I'm going to update the joystick only as it was never sent back and has NOT been updated.. Not even going to plug the throttle in yet until the joystick has been updated. Any input here is welcomed.. I'm gonna wait a few. Feed Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 I wouldn't bet on the Throttle being up to date, myself. I'd update both as the first order of business. And just as an additional note, I had my original throttle lose the firmware once, after about a week of use, which was solved with a firmware flash from TM (original firmware release). After about another month, it went dead completely. It was left plugged in to an external, powered USB hub. After receiving a replacement throttle, both have been updated to the llatest firmware. So far, so good ... this time.
Yoni63 Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 He he, sorry for the suspense. I didn't intend it. Real world stuff came up, but it's working. No problems at this point. So I've seen two sides.. unplug before shutdown and leave plugged in.. Has anyone arrived at what's best on this? I'm unplugging at the moment. I figure an arc is more rare than a surge during startup/shutdown. Geeez, we shouldn't be worrying about this at the price we paid. Feed Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 I think that's exactly the point - we shouldn't have to worry about it. I'm leaving mine plugged in, and I'll send these right back again if the same thing happens again. Avoiding the problem really isn't a solution I'm happy with. For $400(+), they should be damn near bullet-proof.
Succellus Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 So far left plugged or having a USB masturbation doesn t change anything, we get losses on both account. Best keep on voodoo, and if voodoo don t do, kick some TM employee on the teeth.
