-Pv- Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 I just got mine a few days ago, and it takes some getting used to not having the additional tactile position of the stick to send to the brain about how much force is being used. I have to retrain my brain. It's very doable though. I've been using a touchpad on my PC for 10 years and I'll never go back to a mouse. Getting the nulls, curves, and force levels set make all the difference. Once I got settings which felt confortable, my brain started retraining. -Pv-
jeffyd123 Posted April 13, 2011 Author Posted April 13, 2011 HI Folks, Hope you are keeping well. Im planning to get a new HOTAS stick, it would a first for me... my previous Joystick the Logitech Extreme 3D is going bunkers as we speak with the rudder issue... General opinion about the Joystick, how do you feel it...button location, etc etc...I would really appreciate the advise.. Regards, Mingo Hi Mingo... I have likes and dislikes about my stick... The no movement thing is fairly hard to get used to... I still find myself yanking too hard on the stick and the plane bouncing up and down. I have my settings turned up so there is quite a bit of force when Im flying. when you are in the zone and flying, the stick really is a very cool sensation... especially with a lot of force.... my hand gets a bit tired after a couple hour sortie. There are a lot of hats and they are reasonably well laid out (plus you can change out the hats "heads"), but the throttle hats are a tad too far apart and requires I shift my hand a lot to use different hats. I also find the stick a bit too large for my hand. the 2 lower hats on the throttle are too close together and are easily confused... it requires you "feel" around for the correct hat while flying.. Maybe Ill try putting some tactile thing on the lower one. The biggest gripe i have is the EXTREMELY LAME plug on the stick... its basically a shitty, P.O.S, S-Video plug that slips out without really any force and is very hard to line up to get back in... HOLY CRAP SAITEK, ITS NOT LIKE THIS IS THE FIRST STICK YOU EVER MADE.... and yes, it really pisses me off. some guys on here showed me the CH lineup and frankly I wished I looked at them first... I may not have bought one, I just wished I looked at them. they are very good quality and have a ton of hats, plus they are less expensive than the x-65. no rudder built in though... still you can have a HOTAS and rudder for the same price of the x65. One thing I really like about the x65 is how you can change the amount of force used with the push of a button... very cool feature. The quality is very good overall and its cool to feel cold steel in your hands when you fire up your bird. The stick has functioned without one flaw or hiccup in 4 months of use... including the profiling software. The best stick would of course be the warthog if you have the money... I feel you can get a pretty good HOTAS for about $300 and it will serve you well for a long time. i7 8700K @ 4.4Ghz, 16G 3200 RAM, Nvidia 1080Ti, T16000 HOTAS, TIR5, 75" DLP Monitor

I've read a lot about the cable being loose and stuff, it's a shame but no deal breaker for me... I have another question...I've read that the grease they used for the throttle tends to get a bit more "solid" making the throttle movement a bit more difficult. Saitek said they were changing the grease to "fix" this inconvenient...have you experienced something like this? Regards, Roberto. PS: Which CH Joysticks are you talking about? Do you have a link by any chance that I can look at?

automag928 Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Since there is no dual-stage trigger on the x65, what are you guys using for your PAC?
Xtrit Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 I use the large thing at the pink for PAC. But I dont really use PAC.
Jiingles Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Hello all, first post... I got the x65 but have problems getting short/ long TMS and DMS programmed. When i test POV up long (ctrl +up) the Saitek test say leftcontrol up up up up up leftcontrol and I can't establish a SPI in hud soi. Short is ok. Any suggestions?
Speed Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Doesn't sound like your issue, but I had problems with my hats getting stuck when I was using an older version of the Saitek drivers. I updated to their newer "beta" drivers back in May and since then, everything has been golden. Intelligent discourse can only begin with the honest admission of your own fallibility. captainzim1 Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 Jeff Have seen some forums that give a .lau file. Do I need this with your .PRo file to run A10C? What is a .lau file and were is it used. New to DCS software. I have a x65f and bought A10c Warthog and Black Shark have been flying for a couple days now. Lots to learn. John

I just got the X65 yesterday and am using your configuration as a starting point. Made some modifications to better get adjusted for me. Also, do you know if it's possible to use the different modes in A-10 as a button multiplier? i was thinking of setting it up so Mode 4 would be start up mode and I could map the joystick to all the startup functions of the aircraft. jeffyd123 Posted October 14, 2011 Author Posted October 14, 2011 hi roegat, I tried to config the stick as close the the real warhog HOTAS as possible. I also moved a coule of HATS around (neat feature of our stick). I used "bands" in the saitek software to make the commands for the boat switch... its in my profile above. If you dont change the default key assignments it should work for you. the rest of the HOTAS functions were mapped directly in the game. As far as using other x65 buttons as modifiers, you have to map that inside the game controls, but I dont use them and not sure how to do it. I use my mode button for modifying my radio functions so I can use TARS with my wing. I would think that using it to re task the stick for start-up wouldn't be that necessary. I am thinking of mapping my quick views to my stick as right now Im using the NUM0 key to start/stop quick views and the num pads for the different views. not sure how to implement it. I guess a button to act as NUM0 and a modifier to make a HAT do the different views. what a nightmare LOL Jeff i7 8700K @ 4.4Ghz, 16G 3200 RAM, Nvidia 1080Ti, T16000 HOTAS, TIR5, 75" DLP Monitor

hawka Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 (edited) A10C X65f profile This is my profile I use all the modes and modes 1 and 2 with pinkie.Hotas is pretty much like standed. I have the trackir centreing set to pinkie + num asterix, and although I now use VAC all the time I have left this profile so it can still be used for all of the radio commands. H5 stick moves the mouse, and the stick with the button press will select where you put the mouse curser, and trakir zoom is Fwheel most commands are there somewhere and if you don't like my ones the just clear it and put in your own.A-10C.rar Edited October 25, 2011 by hawka Win 10,MB GA-X79S-UP5 cpu i7-3820 water cooled,GPU 1080ti ,psu corsair HX1200i,,ram Dominator 32GB trackir 5,VKB Gunfighter stick , throttle ,saitek x65f & CH pedals

-Pv- Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 I've been using my own custom built for X-65X for years. I suspect it's not as full-featured profile as offered here, so haven't uploaded it. I haven't programmed shifted features using pinky or Button C combos because of the shape and size of the stick makes it too hard to activate two switches at once while keeping control of the axis with the same hand unless you have very large hands. Mine are at least average or larger because I can play 10th chords on the piano. This controller is certainly one of the more rugged out there and no pots on the stick axis adds years to it. No tactile feedback from stick movement does cause me to over-compensate by yanking harder on it than I need to which causes some muscle strain. -Pv-
