Pilotasso Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 Im not at home so I cant teste them yet! :( leave your impressions here! .
britgliderpilot Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 :D An X800XL AND Cat 5.6 on the same day! Christmas has come early! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg
Pilotasso Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 make sure you test both drivers properly... Is there any difference? .
Kevlon Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 has anyone tested it? Been much talk abouth these drivers. Hope they are good :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Acerus_VJG73 Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 Íve tested it (Radeon 9800XT/ 1280X1024 no AA,AF). But for me there was no difference between the 5.5 and the 5.6! I tested it with clear Sky and Overcast but nothing has changed :( Maybe the Perfomance Boost will only be noticed on the newest ATI Cards!?
Andrew_McP Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 I've only had a quick, relatively unscientific test on a PC that has a 9800SE and the Su-25 1.1 demo at 1024x768. Results in level flight after hitting s: Old drivers: 17-19fps New drivers:10-12 fps Thought it was using identical settings (sliders set to max performance rather than quality) but hopefully I'm doing very something wrong :-) Andrew McP PS I wasn't expecting an improvement in most cases anyway. Magical driver enhancements usually turn out to be cheats or wishful thinking.
BuzzU Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 I see no difference between 5.5 and 5.6. I'm also not surprised. Buzz
Iceman_AFS Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 No perfomance increase with the 5.6 Cat's...Lock On wasnt even mentioned in the release notes tho. Tested on a Pentium4 3.2,1GB DDR2 533mhz and a X800XT PCIe 256mb ddr
kam Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 I'm seeing no difference either. cueceleches Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 Well, I guess that after all, I´ll keep my good ol´4.12!
coldcrew Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 In the initial story there were talking about thick overcast, so maybe that's where the improvement is
Lemmi Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 Dutch60 - This is a song from D-A-D ;) but i have to say - You're right.
Fellblade Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 There was no mention of the LOMAC stuff in the dirver release notes; I suspect that the changes were pulled for some reason.
yamangman Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 Actually, there is a performance increase, you have to turn on Catalyst AI, in the CCC. It is nowhere near a 50% increase though, and makes no difference on overcast clouds (the original article didn't mention overcast cluods, it refers to the volumetric scattered cumulous clouds). I get about an extra 4 fps is normal and good weather, no change in overcast.
Dutch60 Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 You must be a strong believer There was no mention of the LOMAC stuff in the dirver release notes; I suspect that the changes were pulled for some reason. Csmag Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 Well... I tried these drivers and i got a 5-10 Fps boost wit my 9600SE <i7 2600k | 2x HD6950 | 8GB DDR3 | Crucial m4 64GB>
WhiskeyRomeo Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 Tested in both 1.02 and 1.1 using the F-15C escort airlift mission. ATI 9600XT Cat5.1 drivers tested before Cat5.6 installed. Seeing up to 50% improvements in this mission occasionally but would say the overall improvement average is only a few extra FPS (which is probably 10-15% for this mission). Testing several other missions without major overcast doesnt show any noticeable improvements.
D-Scythe Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 Have an X800XL, and I must say, the 5.6s pulled through for me. Granted, I was only expecting a ~5 fps increase, and I got it. And I'm glad I grabbed those extra frames, especially when testing out Very High Water. Here's frames with Cat. 5.2s: And now frames with Cat 5.6s: You be the judge ;)
kydius Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 Yep, I also noticed an improvement in performance. I tested with the first training track of the Su27 wich is overcast and I was getting about 7-13 FPS. With the new drivers, playing the same track I get about 13-19 FPS wich is quite acceptable.

That's how I tested the drivers too. 1st training track for Su-27. 5.5...30 fps 5.6...30 fps Bah humbug! Buzz
Guest Cali Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 Just got done testing 5.6's out from 4.11's, In the A-10 quick fly I got at the start 11 FPS more and throughout the mission it was inbetween 5-11 FPS more. I am very happy with that! Stats A-10 quick fly default high settings minus mirrors and heat blur. 4.11 5.6 start 26 FPS 37 FPS 60 secs 31 FPS 36 FPS 180 secs 31 FPS 36 FPS but it all depended on where you looked, flying over a city and how high you were. but like I said I'm happy with 5.6
