Hello!

As you may know from my obnoxious number of threads, I've recently had the chance to build a new PC. Anyway, because I ordered from 2 companies some parts arrived today, and some will arrive tomorrow...Due to this I had the chance to try out my new graphics card with my old equipment..Basically from:

q6600 @ 2.6ghz

4gb ddr 2 ram

gtx 260

to the same system with a gtx 460..

The fps difference is HUGE! I have gone from 15fps on the tutorial mission ground to 30 on significantly higher settings. On equal settings I'm getting about 37...

Can't wait to see if the new cpu gives me any more fps...But to those of you considering a GPU upgrade I can wholeheartedly recommend it!

Intel i7 6700k, Asus GTX1070, 16gb DDR4 @ 3200mhz, CH Fighterstick, CH Pro Throttle, CH Pro Rudder Pedals, Samsung Evo 850 SSD @ 500GB * 2, TrackIR 5 and 27" monitor running at 2560 * 1440, Windows 10.

I'll be upgrading my rusty PC too, and I'm thinking about 2x 460 SLI :devil_2::devil_2:

I ask better - what would you choose for: 2x 460 or 1 better card? I know unfortunetaly DCS will not use SLI but another games yes, so logically better SLI but I am not sure :)

From what I've read I think 1x better gpu would be better! SLI doesn't seem to give anything close to 200% performance of the card on its own!

I'm getting a new rig too very soon .

I'm looking at getting two AMD 6950s or waiting for the 6990. My plan is to use 3 monitors (5960x1200) with 2 additional 8" screen for the MFD.

Since we're on this topic

If I might make a suggestion at that boberro, get a single gfx card, like the gtx570/gtx580.

I'm in the market for an upgrade.

I have an Intel Core 2 Quad CPU

Q8400 @ 2.66Ghz

2.67Ghz 3.25GB RAM

With GTX 260...

What would you do if you were me?

GTX 460 in Korea is about 300bucks.. the 470 goes up to 500+ ...depressing...

1)Do you think I should go up to win7

2)Would it suffice to just get the 460?

3)Is there a significant need for a power upgrade for such card?

4)Is there a RAM bottle neck in the above specs?

Many thanks~!

I'm really the opposite of tech-savvy so... would really appreciate the help.

Thanks

I built a system with 2x 460 a couple of months ago and I've found that as noted above, there is zero benefit from running in SLI in DCS A-10. If you are only using one monitor, definitely no reason to get a second nVidia card since you don't even get an FPS bump when handing PhysX to the second card.

When I send the MFCDs to a second monitor, I have also noticed that its better FPS wise to run both the main and secondary monitor through your primary GPU, not having the monitors split between two GPUs. I actually get 4-5 FPS better when running both monitors through one card and having that card also handle PhysX - essentially shutting down the second card. Someone explain that one to me ;-)

So, unless you are planning on using more than two monitors, I would go for the 1x 570 or 580.

1) Yes! 64bit

2) You would get a considerate improvement, dont go for a second one for SLI, as you will get a very small improvement in dcs a-10c.

3) It rather depends on what you have now..

4) Shouldn't do..

Just a quick note. I bought and installed an Intel Solid State 80 gb Drive (SSD) and was shocked at the performance boost. I went from 13 fps to 20 - 26 fps in A10 and BS was running 38 fps and up.

I checked the MS score and it went up from 5.9 to 6.1 and Win 7 32 runs quite a bit faster. SSD's aren't cheap but I've read that the prices should be coming down and it does make a noticeable difference.

I've also recently upgraded my rig. Before the upgrade my spec were:

Intel Q6700 C2Q @2.66GHz

4GB Corsair DDR2 800 PC2 6400 RAM

And my stab at better FPS EVGA GTX460 FTW 1GB

Windows XP 32

Now this was during Beta 3, but when I was just attacking static targets I was getting 20-30 frames with settings on medium, nothing on high, but when a moving convoy unit spawned, slideshow, basically unplayable. Can you say bottleneck? I gave up on the game. Didn't play for about a month and a half.

Then I finally got off my ass and started doing my research on the upgrade of parts I could afford, plus I caught a few holiday deals. Eventually after going back and forth between a E8600 and staying with 775 and adding more RAM or spending a lot more money, I just made myself realize that even though it would be more expensive it would be better to go 1156. I decided to go with an i5. That meant new motherboard and for that I spent the most on out of all the parts, even with discounts. Got some top quality RAM and water cooler and Win 7 64. Updated specs in my signature below. Got the parts installed and got everything updated, then I let the motherboard do it's thing let it overclock my CPU with the push of a button:thumbup: No need to overclock my GPU its already running at 850 Core and 1700 Shader from the factory. From what I have read most standard GTX 460 barely make it to 900 Core and 1800 Shader and be stable.

Now this rig just eats DCS's lunch, I have consistent 60 FPS in cockpit and higher. Drops to high 40's when looking at the normal heavy areas, and it only drops to high 20's when gun rounds hit, but no stutter. All settings on high, except no civ traffic, with HDR and TSAAA and 16x MSAA at 16x10 cause I only have 22'' Monitor.

It cost me about 900 bucks but it was way overdue. My last setup was more than 3 years old. I am very satisfied with my choices. Now, no more worries about FPS or stutters just strap in and go

That will be my next adventure. Im waiting for the prices to drop some. They are insane right now.

I am not sure about the SSD's and FPS. I was looking at them again the other day and prices are still high to justify based on what I have read about using them for FPS in DCS.

I run eyefinity so every fps I can get I want but I read two different and conflicting stories. One is that there is no improvement, only shorter load times and that everything is then cached.

The other is that like this poster and at least another I have read which says they see an improvement in game. Of course I don't disbelieve him but why the adamant 'there is no improvement' come from some people.

Does dcs really load everything? I know fsx sure doesnt.

I agree, SSD really ought not matter except for RAM issues. And it's not so much about 'critically short' but that an average speed harddrive can't keep up with DCS. I've got Win7 64 with 8gig RAM and in the 32bit Hog I had micro-stutters (i.e. not the pre-render pauses). SSD ought to reduce micro-stutters, but it seems 64bit DCS took care of that problem for me anyway.

And if Intel's got new chips, then the i-series might drop in price pretty quick. I'd trade my maybe-30-fps E8500 for 40-60 with an i5 if it were cheaper.

I hope the OP reports back after they install the new CPU, I'd be interested to know just how "CPU bottlenecked" this sim is as everyone seems to say. The fact that fps doubled from just a graphics card upgrade suggests otherwise to me. Then again, we could see an even bigger improvement from tomorrow's CPU upgrade.

From the evidence I've seen, 4 gigs of ram is enough for almost all games, and I reckon there'd only be a marginal improvement going to 8GB. So no I don't think it would have an important effect.

I'm waiting for Sandy Bridge CPU tests to see how it is compared to old i7.

If you want another 10-15fps improvement, overclock that Q6600 to 3 or 3.2Ghz. I have the exact same system as yours, including the GTX 460. I can say without a doubt the extra 400Mhz on the CPU increased my FPS a lot more then the GTX 460 did.

I have just been informed that my i5 2500K and ASUS P8P67 Pro has shipped so should have it tomorrow.

Give me a couple days and I should have a comparison though its with my old e6750. The news from the official reviews is all good though. I wouldn't be surprised to see my 460GTX the bottleneck now...

Hi folks,

I have an Asus EEE PC and of course a standard PC where I installed DCS:-A-10C and FC2. Question: I know there is a utility that allows players to use multiple screens to play FC2 , Ka-50 to get the instrument panels on 2 or more screens.

Problem is that I can't connect 2 monitors on the same PC.Do I need to buy a special TV card for this? Or is there a way to duplicate the output video signal to 2 monitors (with a video adaptator maybe?) I don't have HDMI. Classic VGA ports...

But even If I manage to plug 2 monitors on my main PC, will I be able to run such a utility on a 10 inches Asus EEE PC 100H screen? I would love to see some instruments on this second monitor. :-)
