Hi,

first, I completly agree with Cali's post (#125). I was really doubtfull about this "pit". Everything is scary, especially this amount of gun (beside the size of the screens). But indeed, it's not even the embryo of a pit. I'm glad this was a joke.

The light saber looks real.

You have really good eyes... I didn't even notice it ! If you like lightsabers, you (but not only) might be interested in this :

But, that's another topic...

Here's my current pit setup. Just finished building the stands for the 10.4" touchscreens.

Left hand side has a home built collective (parts from an old X45), Warthog throttle and a 10.4" touchscreen. Center console is a 23" touchscreen. Right hand side has a 21" touch screen and a 10.4 touchscreen. External screens are 46" Sony LCDs.

Everything runs off a single intel 2500k with 8GB ram and 64GB SSD. I have a 5870 2GB Eyefinity 6 card driving the Sony's and the front console, while a second 5850 drives the side console displays. Running Helios of course to do all gauges and switches.

Working on designing a front shroud to replace the articulating arm for the front console touchscreen. Hopefully I'll be able to fit in my two 8" LCDs to also mount my cougar MFDs. Planning on incorporating a physical landing gear switch, a half dozen rotary encoders into the front console shroud. Toying with building some generic radio panels to fill out the left console. Also going to convert to stationary side consoles to hold the right hand touchscreen and have a place to put my keyboard on the left of the collective.

Those guns might one day save your life. Zombies are a real threat. My "pit" is actually the same, except no guns and an X-65F, with smaller screens left and right (only the left one works) of My 42" LCD TV I use as a monitor. My eyes are bleeding.

I get by :D

Do I win?

OK, just so everyone is in the clear about this pic, it is the desk of some rich nerd in Japan (see that word below the Yahoo logo?) and all those guns are airsoft.

I assumed they were airsoft. I mean if you could afford that kind of firepower, everything in your house might as well be coated in diamonds while you're at it. If this were my setup, they wouldn't be airsoft. Vulgar display of 2nd Amendment.

Hi Folks,

Here's my set-up. I finally found the screens I was looking for. This was the step I wanted to achieve i.e. put those screens behind my TM Cougar MFDs. These are Lilliput UM-80/C/T 8" Touch Screen Monitors

Man, you're gonna cost me $400 for those things. :( Is it really $400 worth of button clicking goodness? I've got the MFCD's off to the side of my monitor right now, and i often use snapviews to "zoom in" on the screens (24" monitor) so I'm thinking I might stick with what I got so far. heh

Desk is far too messy to show my current setup (TM Warthog) but here's my old setup, heh:

You don't need 8" touch screens. There are 7" generic vga lcds from HK on ebay for 100-150. Although 7" means not all the real-estate inside the MFDs is filled.

I am sure it is not that difficult as long as you start with the correct equipment. Just make a list...

1 very large pile of money:megalol:

It is very cool, although I think my living room is the only room in the house large enough to take it. That might present an inconvenience or two!:D

ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! Extreme 8GB, Corsair HX1000i, Phillips BDM4065UC 40" 4k monitor, VX2258 TouchScreen, TIR 5 w/ProClip, TM Warthog, VKB Gladiator Pro, Saitek X56, et. al., MFG Crosswind Pedals #1199, VolairSim Pit, Rift CV1

The setup uses my prototype NTHUSIM screen. It's a pretty high profile build. AMD has shown it off for the AMD 6800-series launch, last October and at the AMD House of Blues CES 2011 VIP party in January. Most recently I had it out at a car convention with the flight simpit. The simpit isn't mine, but I get to "store" it at my house, so it gets good use. The simpit is an old military F-4 egress trainer shell retrofitted with the Saitek X65 setup and pedals with a 22" LCD glass cockpit panel. Justin Messenger of Nu-Tek Simulation owns the simpit. :)

If you want to do it, here's a simplified shopping list:

3x Optoma GT720 @ $600 each

3x projector mounts

Screen material @ $200-400 depending on material type and size

Misc Home Depot supplies $200

NTHUSIM Plus $500

Any compatible AMD Eyefinity/Matrox TH2G/NVIDIA Surround computer setup

Last but definitely not least -- a room large enough to put it in. In my case, I use a 13 foot wide room.

This is fantastic. Do you notice any issues with projecting onto a curved surface?

Thanks,

Colin

The main issue is that while not in-game, you don't have pre-warping capability on the desktop with NTHUSIM. It makes for a bit of clumsy navigation in Windows until the game is launched. What you're seeing in the pic is SimVisuals, which is an unreleased commercial product, not the readily available consumer NTHUSIM. SimVisuals desktop pre-warps, but NTHUSIM doesn't at the moment. The home builder would have access to NTHUSIM, not SimVisuals. For many that means the computer configuration would only be useful for in-game fullscreen use. With simpits, a dedicated host computer isn't all that unusual though. I installed DCS: A-10 and DCS: Blackshark again last night. They work great with NTHUSIM. All the menus and in-game works as intended for triple display.

That's an incredible projector set-up BW nice work. Do you work for them?

Not full time work, but sometimes they want to do a convention in the US and they need someone there so I do a one-off project with them. Most of the AMD events I've done I've seen income on. It's a hobby, not a job. The events are too one-off to be considered work. I do this for fun, not for consistent income at the moment. There is not enough income or consistency in it for me to take it seriously. It's fun every few months to be flown out to places like L.A., Dallas or Vegas and setup the screen though. I enjoy it for what it is, not what it might be. It's a welcome distraction every once in awhile for fun.
