Bahger Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 I've been patching up from Beta to Beta but I think it's glitching the sim and I need to reinstall "clean". I'm not sure what the best MO is to do this. I downloaded the original Beta file and all updates via Torrent and still have them on my HD. I'd be grateful to know the best step-by-step method for uninstalling and reinstalling the sim once Beta 5 comes out. I'd also like to know whether I should trash all the mission files I've created in B3 and 4 because attempting to run them in B5 is inadvisable. Finally, if there is one thing I'd love to preserve from previous installs it's my control assignments, as resettting all the axis commands can be a pain. If any of you have the time/inclination to talk me through this process, I'd truly appreciate it. I can be amazingly obtuse about this stuff, so please address your comments as though to a very intelligent 15 year-old.
Kuky Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 since this is still beta it is best not to use any saved filed from one beta to another, and clean installation procedure is simple... uninstall current game/beta and delete the folder it was in... download beta 5 full and install it PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR

TonyP Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Altho back up the config.lua for your controller, helps emensly when I did a clean install. Bullet Bulleststop, I see config.lua in a couple folders, which one specifically should I back-up for my controller? I'm not that computer savy like many on this board.
mikey Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Didn't the syntax change for that config file, or at least I saw some errors when I loaded my backed up controller configs (missing fields and etc). I've got 99 problems but my Ekran ain't one
Sabre Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Didn't the syntax change for that config file, or at least I saw some errors when I loaded my backed up controller configs (missing fields and etc). Good question, I hope somebody in the know will answer this here. Sabre.
Bahger Posted January 23, 2011 Author Posted January 23, 2011 Thanks guys. It would be good if the answer to the config.lua question popped up here. (Mithandra, I was prompted to post by the publication of a Beta 5 changelog on SimHQ, so it appears that it's not far off.)
Nikeleye Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 (edited) Your key commands are saved in various .lua files, one for each of the columns of programmable controllers you see in DCS (i.e. keyboard and mouse, your joystick, pedals, TrackIR, etc), and then again for each of the selectable command profiles (Default, Simulation Mode, Arcade Mode). These are all found in DCS A-10C Beta/Config/Input. Your specific joystick one will be something along the lines of: DCS A-10C Beta/Config/Input/A-10C/joystick/Saitek X52 Pro Flight Controller {7D16B440-E1BE-11df-8001-444553540000}.lua. You'll see default pre-made profiles for various other controllers in there too, including your own brand of stick (but without the Windows ID code). You can open these in notepad if you wish but editing them is probably not a fantastic idea! If you change something such as an axis tuning however and click 'Save Profile As' in-game, this will be saved as a standalone .lua in the beta's root folder. And regarding the changelog posted on SimHQ, it was likely replicated from the list Matt Wagner has put up here. Edited January 23, 2011 by Nikeleye
Bulletstop Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Nikeleye, Thanks I was on my laptop and I did not remember the file path. I did have to go thru and change a couple of things but for the most part the keys were still binded. It is much better then having to go and reset all the key binds. PhoenixBvo Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Or use a compare tool like winmerge or beyondcompare. They allow you to quickly view differences between two textfiles and manually decide which ones make sense to copy to the newer file. Normally used in combination with source code versioning systems for solving conflicts, but also really handy for .lua files. I have used this method for copying settings to new versions all of ED's sims with 100% success. http://winmerge.org/downloads/ http://www.scootersoftware.com/download.php 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] CPU i7 4970k @ 4.7 GHz RAM 16GB G.Skill TridentX 1600 ATX ASUS Z97-PRO DSU Samsung 850 PRO 256GB SSD for Win10, Plextor M6e 128GB SSD for DCS exclusively, RAID-1 HDDs GFX Aorus GTX 1080 Ti 11GB Xtreme Edition, ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q, 27" with G-Sync, Oculus Rift CV1 HID TM HOTAS Warthog + 10 cm extension, MFG Crosswind pedals, TrackIR 5, Obutto oZone My TM Warthog Profile + Chart, F-15C EM Diagram Generator

HiJack Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 I found out after a lot of problems from beta 1 to beta 2 it is best to write down your changes in text files and redo changes in the new beta's files. I also use a compare tool that lists out the changes in the files but I don't let them do the change. Just compare and do the change in GUI untill it matches your previous configs.
Bulletstop Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Ouch, whelp that makes me not want to upgrade, takes a fair bit to go thru all the buttons. kirrasdad Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 (edited) alternately you could use a Screen Grabber program or print screen to capture your control configs while in the GUI screen :music_whistling: (I have personally tried to import saved controller config lua. files into different Betas and seen the mess it makes, BTW) Edited January 24, 2011 by kirrasdad Win 10 PRO 64bit ASUS Maximus VIII Hero MB Intel Core i7 6700K 4GHZ EVGA GTX 980ti 32GB G.Skil Ripjaws DDR3 1866@1600mhz Sound Blaster Recon 3D Saitek X55 Rhino Stick Trakir5 W/Pro clip :pilotfly: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
