Never let a KA50 get near your base..

I was playing on the RAF server last night for some fast-jet frolics, and some dude in a KA50 managed to get right on top of Maykop...

It wasn't pretty. More or less closed the airfield for the duration of the game. Crucially, this was also the fighter base, so bang went any competition for the opposing interceptors...

I personally never attack opposing human bases and when I have to do it for some reason I wait until they take off and flew a round or two before I start to lock them. I think thats more fair but not really necessary there should be at least one left that gets the attacker down.

Is not that considered camping?

Perfectly valid in real warfare: the Allied fighters did it late in WW2 against the Luftwaffe, but despised in online gaimg AFAIK.

Well, it was a free-for-all, so that really explains the lack of coordinated defence. I was asking on team chat for *anyone* to come over in an SU25 (Shark FARP was still too far away) and swat the intruder but nothing happened. Think he got bored and left in the end, but by then there were opposing fighters doing an airshow above the base...

I think if the base is defended by SHORAD and an attacker makes it through that (especially those damned Tunguska units) then fair enough.

Certainly one of those situations that made me consider a squad because I wanted some coordinated play.

I did that once on a popular server and many were bent out of shape. Me and two others managed to sneak in and had lunch in the form of the opposing air base.

Haven't flown there since.

If I get in and help my team win than I am going to destroy the enemy with whatever means necessary. Here's a thought: hunt the helos and make sure they don't attack. Some poor pilot has to pull guard duty over home plate and that usually never happens.

Air Quake is not my bag. I prefer coordinated briefed flights even in Blue on Red. The reason we got through and destroyed the opposing base is we briefed and stuck to our plan.

While we were NOE we could see fighters overhead and I had a fighter fly right over me in the same valley. Too funny.

That's really how I felt. It was very annoying, but fair enough if someone can get there. On the airquake games, I think the only way to avoid it is to have a base very heavily defended by static assets. I have seen this on the 51st open server. A lot of SHORAD about the place.

I always try to pay a lot of attention near home base (I was followed home on one server by what I thought was a friendly. Thing is, I think he thought I was friendly too, I wasn't in a hurry) in case this is happening.

Playing a fighter it does feel like a totally different map to the KA50, one is really quite detached from what is happening near the ground. When there are enemy fighters about (and they are being proactive) I kind of focus on trying to build SA on them. I'm not surprised a fighter entirely missed you. I found playing the Shark (I am utterly shit in the Helicopter) I did the opposite; I cared little for the air battle.

It's sort of funny because the heli pilots complain that they are being hunted ... I have escorted a helis to the opposing base on occasion, and it works out very nicely. The sharks get in there, make a mess, then head home and we make sure that airfield lacks the ability to be operational for a little while, meantime our strikers do a number on the OPFOR units ...

I can never find the bloody things. At least not before getting worried by a fighter sniffing around the skies 70km away. Again I suppose this is the fun of coordinating properly so people can focus on specific tasks.

I always have a lookdown scan en-route (just out of curiousity. Never found anything) hoping to sniff out a crafty Shark but never got lucky.

Playing as the Shark from a FARP near Krasnodar I had one such occasion of feeling very vulnerable. Flat, featureless terrain and a run of about 20-30km in any direction, and some b*stard F-15 driver figuring out this is where the helicopters were...

If they are going slow they'll be invisible to your radar (They shouldn't be, but it was a concession by the devs). On the other hand, if you dedicate a shark-hunting flight you can probably find them by using the right techniques - at least you can protect your base.

Another method is to let them come but already have something in the air that can deal with them, and just let them expose themselves, then you attack them.

BTW, although that F-15 driver wasn't me, that sounds about right. You try to come knocking at my door, I shall greet you with a hail of AMRAAMs, sidewinders, 20mm and potentially guided kitchen sinks ;)

Lots of times in the shark you fly out low and slow on a 20 minute flight only to be shot down by some vulture that knows you're coming. I don't feel any pity at all for that base or anyone trying to take off from it.

Reap what you sow...

They just get mad because your hurting their airquake k/d ratio.

Friend of mine crashed red airbase on 104th server long time ago. On the end he just landed on red ground... Anyway, red be warned.... you don't know either hour or day of your death brought by Ka-50....;)

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

Lol no - the Hill was a coupla clicks from their FARP which made it even more priceless - never knew what hit them.........:megalol:

That said - the briefing was more than specific. If read you would be safe! Alas many did not :D

Hey, do you mean the hill close to the refuel FARP in the first midget-tosser map? I think that was a Hawk site in that case, and you could sprint your way to another hillside and be fine.

...except that depending on how the mission triggers had spawned, there might be tanks hidden in the forest, and HEAT rounds hurt. :P
