Kenan Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 (edited) Ok. I typed in the ILS frequency and I contacted the tower..I also pressed the ILS button on the lower center part of the control panel (in front of stick) but I still have no idea how to actually get the ILS symbiology on my HUD? I can do the VFR landing by following the flight path marker and everything but I might need ILS in case of some serious bad weather landings with poor visibility. luza Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 make sure you set the FREQ and turn the knob to PWR on the ILS panels (right panel near TACAN) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
EvilBivol-1 Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 There is no ILS indication on the HUD. Only on the ADI. - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. Everything takes much longer. The Parable of Jane's A-10 Forum Rules
Steel Jaw Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 ILS is still non functional as far I have seen. Please correct me if I am wrong. "You see, IronHand is my thing" My specs: W10 Pro, I5/11600K o/c to 4800 @1.32v, 64 GB 3200 XML RAM, Red Dragon 7800XT/16GB.
EvilBivol-1 Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 (edited) ILS is functional. Just tune to the correct freq, select ILS mode on the NMSP and make sure you are within the ILS signal range (final approach fix will be about 2K ft. altitude a few nm from the runway). Again though, there is no ILS indication on the HUD. The steering bars (and the glideslope deviation indicator) on the ADI are your main indicators for the glidepath. -Ice Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 I've actually landed with the ILS once in the training mission on Beta 4. As to how that happened I'm not exactly sure. Even the default landing instructions (inbound directions) are confusing to me. It's like you tell the ATC you're coming in, he gives you a vector, then forgets about you until you hit some magic space in the sky. - Ice
Steel Jaw Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 So EB, can I expect the outer and inner marker lights/tones? "You see, IronHand is my thing" My specs: W10 Pro, I5/11600K o/c to 4800 @1.32v, 64 GB 3200 XML RAM, Red Dragon 7800XT/16GB.
nemises Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Step that's missing for y'all: unstow the ADI glideslope bars (switch is in the middle of the nav mode selection panel). Also, tones must be enable by setting the "ILS" volume switch (left hand side Audio panel) to enable...I believe you'll hear the ILS freq indicator.,.not sure if it does inner / outer beacon though.
CarneyUK Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 The Landing training mission is also good for learning how to set up for an ILS approach. "The sky is not the limit.....it's my playground!!" @paraglidecass

Rusty_M Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 I can second the point about the landing mission. I just did it for the first time tonight. The world is going mad. Me? I'm doing fine! http://www.twitch.tv/rusty_the_robot https://www.youtube.com/user/RustyRobotGaming
26-J39 Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 ILS works good.. All the info above are good tips, the power switch for the ILS is a little difficult to see tho when you first try to get it working, ( the base ring around the left ILS knob ), right click to turn that on. Cant seem to get any tones from ILS, tho TACAN works fine on the other hand.
EvilBivol-1 Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 So EB, can I expect the outer and inner marker lights/tones?I think you just found a bug. Just tested and it looks like the marker beacons are not being received, even though they had been working previously. Will add to buglist. ILS is still functional, though. - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. Everything takes much longer. The Parable of Jane's A-10 Forum Rules
effte Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Step that's missing for y'all: unstow the ADI glideslope bars (switch is in the middle of the nav mode selection panel). The command steering crosspointer bars are not required. In fact, I'd suggest leaving them off until comfortable flying the raw GP/LOC data on the ADI and HSI. No it isn't.. not one campaign mission has worked where I tried to land at batumi.. and I do know how to do it. I've done it in beta.. but in the campaign forget it.. just never works. Seems to not work when you have missions that have a runway start. --- May your takeoffs equal your landings!
Nate--IRL-- Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Seems to not work when you have missions that have a runway start. Have you un-stowed the Pitch and roll bars? PG 114 of the manual. Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading
Lonecrow66 Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Please try the landing training mission and report your findings. Nate The training has always worked thats how I learned, but in campaigns no.. I just ran a mission at batumi right now, took off circled around turned ILS to 110.15 turned ON the knob. Then I hit ILS behind the stick, unstowed the bars... all I got was red flags. Tried turning on and off the ILS to see if it made a difference.. couldn't get it to come up.. so I landed. Am I missing anything? --- May your takeoffs equal your landings!
Nate--IRL-- Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 (edited) Please post the track. Edit:- just tried a Runway start, ILS works, BTW Freq for Batumi is 110.30, See the Airport info page on the CDU. Lonecrow66 Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 (edited) Here I made a quick track of the second campaign, took off circled and just landed. Other than making a VERY hard landing right at the stall warning .. what else am I doing wrong? (just rewatched heh I was at over 1000ft per second.. I was high so I was trying to compensate somehow.. )non-ils-landing.trk Edited March 1, 2011 by Lonecrow66 --- May your takeoffs equal your landings!

EvilBivol-1 Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Some of the frequencies were updated in the release version to match real data. As Nate pointed out, the Divert page of the CDU is useful for that sort of thing in-flight. - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. Everything takes much longer.
