FSdude_The.Blex Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 Hello, I was happy to see A-10 finally released. But I don't see a boxed version. Is there going to be a boxed version? If so when and where? If there isn't going to be a boxed version that wouldn't be funny :( I skipped the beta on purpose because I wanted the boxed version. All those long months of patience for nothing  Hoping for a fast reply because otherwise I am going to buy this tonight :smilewink: Greeetzzz
Nate--IRL-- Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 There will be a boxed version, but not for a while as they are financing it themselves. Buy it now, you won't be sorry :) Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading
Steel Jaw Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 Buy it now, you won't be sorry :) That's good advice. ;) "You see, IronHand is my thing" My specs: W10 Pro, I5/11600K o/c to 4800 @1.32v, 64 GB 3200 XML RAM, Red Dragon 7800XT/16GB, monitor: GIGABYTE M32QC 32" (31.5" Viewable) QHD 2560 x 1440 (2K) 165Hz.
FSdude_The.Blex Posted March 5, 2011 Author Posted March 5, 2011 But when I buy something, especially with something I love so much :p. I want to hold it in my hands, putting it up into the air, smile and hear a couple of nuns singing in the background. This just doesn't really work when downloading. I tried.
MTFDarkEagle Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 You can burn it to a dvd ;) Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread
FSdude_The.Blex Posted March 5, 2011 Author Posted March 5, 2011 Yeah well thats not the same :p But any idea of how long it will take? Or really no actual plans?
GreenGriffon Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 Burn it to a DVD, make a disc label for yourself, buy a blank cd case, print up a nice custom case cover for it on a laser printer, and voila....you have a nice box for your shelf, and you can enjoy the game right away versus months from now.
MrYenko Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Game boxes are a thing of the past. I came to grips with that in ~2005, and haven't looked back.
wtfisgoingon Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 True I also came to grips with it, I couldn't even imagine waiting to purchase and use this sim for such a reason  I love the idea of click click, wait 40 mins and play. Some people like what they like though. I have a friend who still buys DVDs from blockbuster and adds them to his collection. As well as an uncle who has one of those 100Lb tv's from the 70's that swears its just as good as new hdtvs. i7-920 @3.8Ghz / MSI X58m / 8GB DDR3 / 2 x HD5770 / Asus-vw226h @1920x1200 / 2x OCZ Vertex 2 80GB SSD's / Win 7-64 / TrackIR 5 / Saitek x52 / Razer BlackWidow Mech Keyboard / Razer Deathadder Stuttering or fps problems? DaWu Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 no boxes are not a thing of the past. I bought the download version of A10 today (installing right now) but this is an absolute exception. I am a simmer so I cant wait any longer but in general I have never bought a download version before and I will not again (dcs maybe different here)
lubey Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Yeah I agree. ED makes it tempting to get the download version in this case, but in general its too much effort for me to wait for a few days to d/l something, then have to burn it to one or more dvds (I don't have a dual layer burner). Then do all that box art stuff as greengriffon said only to have a less robust disc all for a similar price to the old school boxed version. Thats just me though. Revvin Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 I'm also waiting for the boxed version as I have every other game ED has released on CD and DVD but its tempting as hell to buy the download version. I bought Flaming Cliffs as a download then boxed version later then gave the download version to a friend to get him into serious sims. Is the activation for DCS A10 tied to an account or could I do the same again when the boxed version is released?
FSdude_The.Blex Posted March 8, 2011 Author Posted March 8, 2011 Yet I still didn't like the idea of buying the download, I finally decided to buy it. But then I ran into a new problem. I found out that the DCS shop does not support Paypal. And I don't own a credit card. :(
Buzpilot Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 PayP(irate)al, are too greedy, or would you like to pay extra 5 dollars to use them? AFAIK they take 8%, and I used to think brokers take too much with the 2% they get. i5 4670 - Sabertooth Z87- GTX Titan - Dell U3011 30" - 2x8GB RAM 1800 - Samsung 840 EVO 512GB SSD - Warthog HOTAS - CH Pro pedals - TrackIR5 - Win7 64bit EVERYTHING IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE
FSdude_The.Blex Posted March 8, 2011 Author Posted March 8, 2011 I'd rather spend 8% more in this case than not be able to buy at all.

Over here they'll throw credit cards at you if you're a student...My bank managers will vouch for that. Bodo Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Part of me wants to have a boxed version to hold but I'll give my reasons why i'm fine without... I've used Steam for a few things and now I've downloaded both A10 and BS from here and Direct2Drive respectively. I'm happy to do so again. There's manufacturing costs, the waste of energy (some will see this more than others) and also the fact I don't really want loads of boxes for games dotted about the place. I have saved the BS downloads onto a DVD but also have a 1TB drive with loads of random stuff, amongst there I will save the original downloads and subsequent patches for BS and A10. They are cheap, so why not? I don't need to worry about the DVD getting scratched and as I have a few HDDs setup on my system, if it comes to a reformat, I just have to double click and wait for the installer to do its job. A quick process as we're talking 1 HDD to another. If in case the HDD and DVD backup goes wrong, log in to the place you bought em and redownload. Also, at some point you'll have to download the patch, for BS it is now just over a GB of extra data isn't it, with 1.02? I don't have any problem saving that somewhere or burning a DVD of it instead of having to readownload every time... I will be a hypocrite now, though...I do want to see a version of the flight manual, like the BS manual released. I really enjoyed being able to go to bed and read about the Shark when I bought it. So, please ED, I hope we can have a hard copy of the A10 manual!? Anyway, horses for courses I suppose, I for one really don't mind DLCs and don't mind just having a downloaded copy of ED stuff to store on a DVD or HDD somewhere.
