riboyster Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Same, Pretty old machine by todays standards... If I set everything up High, its a bit of a jerk-fest, but if I tweak down a few items to Medium, it is smooth as butter, and barely distinguishable graphically from setting high. ...It's of course personal choice, but, holding out for optimisations at this stage is a fools game...the game is very optimised already. You're right. It's a physical addiction anyway. I flew again today because I love DCS so much. The framerate is just breaking my heart (everything's on absolute low) and I don't know how else to express my agony :pain: Downloading full .7 edition. Hopefully that'll smooth things out like it has for others. -SnakeShit [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Peace through Superior Firepower EVERYTHING YOU'LL EVER NEED FOR LOMAC: http://flankertraining.com/ironhand/news.html
bluepilot76 Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Hi All. I want to do the upgrade from 1106 to 1107. If I delete that folder in /Users/(name)/Saved Games/ wont I lose my joystick / key settings? Is there some file in there I can save so I dont have to reset them all again? Its just that Ive done it a few times now and it always takes ages to put everything back, so many hatswtiches and china boats and what have you. Alternatively, are all you that are having the big improvements primarily downloading the new "from scratch" installer? I would do that normally but I am offshore and cant use that much broadband. It took the whole day to get the 1107 patch as it was. And everyone was like, "whats wrong with the internet today?" Technical Specs: Asus G73JW gaming laptop... i7-740QM 1.73GHz ... hassata Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 I'm not at my machine, but in Saved Games there's an A10 Input file somewhere you can save. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
bluepilot76 Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Hi Hasata, I think I can find the .lua that I saved my input setting as, in the DCS Warthog folder, but there are also some likely candidates in the Config. folder. What I meant to ask really is if I copy, say, the config folder and that .lua into my new installation, is there a chance that it can negatively affect the new installation. Actually I did already patch the simulation without doing the full process, just to see if there was an obvious boost. To be honest I dont think there is a boost, although its hard to tell because they have changed the 1st mission of Devils Cross which is my test. I dont have any major stutters but lots of microstutters, otherwise fps is good and it seemed stable, however I didnt notice any real boost over my 1106 installation. So thats why I was going to do the whole process from fresh, and was hoping for a shortcut to remapping all my keys again. Technical Specs: Asus G73JW gaming laptop... i7-740QM 1.73GHz ... StrongHarm Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Some LUA files change from patch to patch. I like to create an "originals" folder before making any LUA changes, and drop the originals in there. That helps me do two things. * Keep a good copy in case I FUBAR one * Look at the date on the LUA to compare with the date on the LUA that comes with a patch. You can see if they made changes to it in dev by the dates... in most cases. Most user configurable files are indeed located in %userprofile%\saved games\DCS Warthog though. It's a good thing that this is Early Access and we've all volunteered to help test and enhance this work in progress... despite the frustrations inherent in the task with even the simplest of software... otherwise people might not understand that this incredibly complex unfinished module is unfinished. /light-hearted sarcasm
Zenra Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 I know I am late to the party here, but wanted to add my kudos to ED on the 1.1.0.7 patch - it's smooth as silk and stable, and includes a lot of nice touches that help my immersion level (like the ILS ID, marker beacon indication, ...). I was at 1.1.0.5 until this past weekend (due to issues with 1.1.0.6) but the latest patch is great. Good job, ED! I'll be at my machine in a few minutes, I'll get back to you with the folder that contains the input settings. If it were me, that's the only one I would import to the patched install. Edit: [user]/Saved Games/DCS Warthog/Input. Rename the A-10C Folder in the new install, then import the old A-10C folder. That should work. Edited April 12, 2011 by hassata [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

kharne Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 I'll have to try a fresh install. My load times are TERRIBLE with the new patch! Other than that though, everything has been great.
PhoenixBvo Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 bluepilot76 (and anyone trying to keep their settings) what I'd recommend is the following: Copy your old installation to another folder (e.g. called compare_DCS_Warthog). Then install the patch over the original (OR delete the original and use the full installer) and use Beyond Compare or some other compare software like winmerge to compare both installation folders. You might want to backup the [user]/Saved Games/DCS Warthog folder as well. Apply a filter to only compare .lua and .cfg files and you'll see which files have changed AND have the ability to instantly compare each difference inside the files and decide which changes are to be copied to the new installation. This would include your own multi monitor settings, custom labels, the ingame options (although valid values might have changed between patches, be careful there), input settings and pilot achievements (log). I've applied this method to all patches with LOFC/2, DCS:BS and DCS:WH with no problems and great succes. It saves a lot of time compared to taking notes of all settings and clicking your way through the GUI each time. I just hope this advice might help someone out a bit... bluepilot76 Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Well thanks to all who helped, I first of all tried what hassata said, but although my keyboard commands worked it didnt remember anything for my joystick. So I deleted the whole folder and restarted the sim to recreate the folder, then I was about to start inputting from scratch just to be on the safe side, but wanted to fly, so I just copied the old config folder in. all my settings were back. then I tried a different campaign, I also decided to tuurn up some settings; turned on the mirrors and with 512k monitors, although turned down the water, and went for a fly. Cant say it was far off perfect really. Loved it. Did two missions, got a British Air medal and brought back two thouroughly holed but flyable A-10s. My AI wingman was brilliant two, probably blew more stuff up than me. Great sim. Love it! Technical Specs: Asus G73JW gaming laptop... i7-740QM 1.73GHz ... GTX460m 1.5GB ... 8GB DDR5 RAM ... Smeghead Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 Ok as a follow up. I reinstalled from scratch after a thorough cleaning and defragging of my machine. This decreased the load times from 4 mins to 2 mins. That is good. So I ran the first campaign mission which is what I use as my benchmark. Managed to get all the way through it without a crash. That is good. I request a taxi permission.. all of a sudden the nearby Tornados stop taxiing and would not move for the rest of the mission. Could not get the tower to allow me to taxi. Could not get my wingman to follow or take off either. So I had to just take off without permission. No orders would get him to take off. So the taxiing still seems a bit messed up. The JTAC again I keep getting an "Abort Abort Abort" after being cleared hot and not even having my master arm turned on. Not firing a single round. This has happened a couple times now. I also got hit by a nearby sam it seems. I saw the damage on the aircraft, but absolutely NO warnings went off, even though my countermeasures and ALQ were damaged. So that was bad. Moments of lag again were pretty bad, which seems to coincide with turning on the TGP or switching to it, or getting closer to ground troops. If I make a strafing run it goes to 1 frame per 5 seconds... So performance is still piss poor, though I get a good 20fps on the ground at startup with no MSAA or anything turned on. In my mission briefing it showed about 100 repetitious reports of being hit and damaged (the countermeasures) over and over again. So much so that loading the debriefing was so slow it was almost useless to scroll around. So that was the 2nd time I was hit with no warnings but I lost systems with the new patch. Several other anomalies of course the jtac not updating because of improper net settings. I think this patch pandered to the online people more or less this time. I think I'll wait another 2 months when .8 comes out and try again. Should be polished and ready for an actual release then.
Scratchy Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 A note about the cursor hiding feature. First, I really like it. :D Secondly, it only hides if you have the cursor over a manipulatable item---button, switch or what have you. I don't care, but thought I'd put up an FYI. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Intel i7-8700K @4.9Ghz | 32Gb memory DDR4 | Evga GTX 1080ti | Saitek Eclipse keyboard | Logitech Mx518 | CH Fighterstick, Pro Throttle/Pedales | TIr5 | Win10 x64 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
