voyagingmind Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Are 32 bit PC desktop systems even produced anymore these days? When I bought my i7 2600 half a year ago, I didn't (Thankfully) come across any 32 bit systems. I use a lot of different software audio / video / Dev Platforms + plugins for work, and enjoy quite a few games, emulators, roms etc. And I mention this because I've not had any problems running most if not all x86 applications on win 7 x64. So in terms of price, speed, compatibility, really no reason not to have x64 (which I don't think we have another choice anyway). I just remember some of my musician friends that limited themselves only to hardware, because they kept on insisting that software wont be compatible, even in just a few years, let alone ten. While I enjoy the keyboards I have (Even some tasty analog ones) I'm so glad they were wrong. Audio programs are a world unto their own (much like dcs a-10 in terms of depth, complexity, and yummyness factor). Anyway I mega-digress, so yeah x64 DCS A-10c here

Pikey Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 I have the displeasure of having run both 32bit XP originally and 64 bit Win7. I have many hours on 32 bit XP and after a break came back to try on win7 64. I totally underestimated what a difference there could be on the same hardware. The difference is very easy to see. The things it affects are 1) View distance stutter on both turns and TGP. Ie you turn the camera on and it points 80 miles away and the FPS stop for a few seconds. 2) Sheer FPS. I never noted the difference it but its mainly related to the view and turning when things are going on, on screen. Its an obvious increase which I thought would have been unlikely. 3) Strafing runs/GAU stutters Some of this has probably been software optimisations since BETA 4 when i started and some is the access to over 2GB then over 4GB of memory as I upgraded. But since the begining the game play has improved immensely. ___________________________________________________________________________ SIMPLE SCENERY SAVING * SIMPLE GROUP SAVING * SIMPLE STATIC SAVING *
PhyscoKillerMonkey Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 I'm guessing that the stutters I get in game could be helped slightly by upgrading to 64-bit Windows then . . . I have been meaning to for a while now, just never been bothered to back everything up :D My specs are: Intel® Pentium® D CPU 3.40GHz 2.00 GB RAM NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT Win 7 32-Bit
sobek Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Intel® Pentium® D CPU 3.40GHz 2.00 GB RAM NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT Win 7 32-Bit You have not enough memory to benefit from 64bit adress space. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
EtherealN Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 In fact, that memory amount is below minimum system requirements for A-10C and BS2. I'd say the most likely causes for stutters there would be the low memory amount, the weak GPU, or possibly (even likely) HDD latencies made obvious by the application needing to do constant swapping due to that low memory amount. If the 9500 is a 256MB version, that would make this even more likely. This does however go beyond the scope of this thread. If you want some assistance in figuring out how to optimise your computer (or look at replacements), there's a lot of friendly people in the Hardware section of this forum that will be eager to help. :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester

Afterburn Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 W7x64 Pro. Should have gone with Home Premium...pro has had no use to me, and I consider myself at least enthusiastic, if not power user... I just had XP Pro & figured 7 Pro was the right way to go... As is frequently the case, I digress, though.
killmodell Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 switched to 64 I never could get DCS to run in 32 bit no matter what I did. I spent a week rebuilding and upgrading to 64bit Win 7 and now life is GOOD  I am running it on a Core Duo 6550 / 4Gb RAM and an old 4850 and the fidelity is surprisingly robust on low settings. I have a GT560 I am going to try and shoehorn into this case... I figure that and maybe up the RAM to 6Gb should give me a boost as well. 64 bit is DEFINITELY the way to go though! check six killmodell
cassus Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 Win 7 home premium x64 here. I see no reason to buy a 32 bit system these days. Also lets me run 16 gigs of ram which is helpful for photoshop etc.
