I don't have A-10C yet (I am waiting for the boxed set, call me old fashioned) so I am curious can you mark a spot on the map just using longitude and latitude coordinates? If you can then buddy lasing (lasing, lazing?) in my opinion just lost its usefulness. Why should I stay in one spot lasing when I can just say "Hey the target is here", drop some smoke, then bug out? To me just sitting in one place lasing is just inviting trouble. Though this does bring up a point that DCS needs to make smoke selectable from the arming menu. Now more than ever.

As far as I know, and hope, it'll be like flying the black shark within the A10 game but without the ability to fly the A10 and of course with the game still looking like you've loaded up BS. So, updated airbases, textures, map editor etc.

 

Am I right?

This is really good news. No biggie if the compatibility patch is not right around the corner, it's plenty fun flying already - so no rush. Joint multiplayer on some missions where there is a real co-op component would be a lot of fun. I'd happily sacrifice a tiny bit of realism to be able to lase a target for an inbound A-10.

 

Don't know how 'deep' a patch would go, but SW development wise a compatibility patch could make a lot of sense. You really don't want to maintain multiple code bases which essentially do the same thing (3D environment, weather, run the battlefield simulation, ATC, etc).

Great news, I know it may still take a bit of time, But I for one cant wait to fly coop with my KA 50 friends, It always causes an argument at mo when I start the server as to which aircraft we fly tonight. At least with a combatibility patch, They can chose Either.

I don't know why you would even want to lase for an A-10, the Ka-50's laser would probably burn out by the time the A-10's bomb got to the target.

No thats a question of Handling the Laser.

 

When you fire the KH-25ML with a Shark laser is on for 60 seconds.

After that it has to cool Down for a minimum of 30 seconds(Displayed in HUD).

If DCS made a Kiowa then I would want to lase with that, A Kamov is available so I would like to lase with that. Its whatever floats your boat and for me co-operative gameplay with different types of aircraft is where its at.

 

And just to stun the realism junkies, I would like my Kamov to have a loadout of WP and flares a laser and the gun:)

 

And the timing of the lasing would be a part of the fun. Slowly ascending from behind a hotel/hill/forest etc and lasing during the A10 TOT:thumbup:

But how would you make or send an SPI

How would you set your Laser frequenzy or own ID and group

 

If you make that with an Modified TGP attached to the Shark you also will need an Extra MFD to use it.

 

 

I would be cool but they will not do it. Not with the Shark.

As is pointed out, the laser in the Ka-50 is too delicate for much buddy lasing. It's just going to burn out, and at max, can only fire for 25 seconds continuously. The best way to coordinate with an A-10 pilot is through use of the PVI-800, which can get the coordinates the Shkval is looking at in lat/long. The lat/long coordinates of a PVI-800 point are given to the nearest of one-tenth of a minute, or like 180 meters, so it has like 90 meter resolution. This is good enough, when combined with a second computer running a simple lat/long to MGRS converter, to give six-digit MGRS grids.

 

Secondly, you can also use smoke rockets.

 

It remains to be seen how survivable the Shark will be. The upgraded graphics engine in A-10 reduces the range at which you can spot targets by a considerable margin.

 

On a final note, I wonder if the Ka-50 COULD be used to buddy lase, if you gave the A-10 a hacked loadout that included Russian LGBs? Hmm...

All I want is the new Graphics, fix the wingman AI, give us comms like the A-10, give us the create fast mission thingy. Blackshark got boring to me after awhile because of the broken AI and the it was too quite! In A-10 there is comms everywhere and it makes me feel like im part of a battle well done ED. Lets bring that same feeling over to the BS because I enjoy flying the Shark more than the Hog for some reason.

With the patch, will it update airbases in BS to make them look like they do in A-10C? IE: Batumi actually looks horrible in BS, but looks busy in A-10... or am I missing something?

 

I don't know, guys, where did you get the notion that the patch would port Ka-50 to A10C world? I think it's quite a stretch of your imagination. The patch will make Ka-50 world playable with A-10C world in multiplaer. Which will be great already. I hope the good guys at ED will also fix some known bugs left after 1.0.2.

Dang that would suck big time Sabre if thats true lol I love playing single player so just a multiplayer update wouldnt do me no good. But if they fix the bugs that would make me start playing it again.
