Hi all,

A simple question but I found the answer nowhere.

By landing "open the speedbrakes for 40-%". How or where can I see the percentage of the open speedbrakes ???

We have to do it like this for the flaps on the particular C172 I fly:

 

hold flap toggle down, say "oneandtwoand" then release the toggle. thats 20 degs. Prob have a glance out the window to check it looks about right.

 

You can do the same thing, I think the brakes only open at one rate, so get an idea for how long it takes to open 40%, then you wont have to look outside at a critical moment. Its not going to be that important that you get it exactly right though.

are the speedbrakes going to be mapped to an axis someday? or at least make them move faster?

 

the real A10 opens the brakes (during fast and low flight) in maybe 0.3 seconds, whereas I need 2-3 seconds to fully expand them...

The A-10 Dash-1 has the following to say:

 

"The speed brakes fully open or close in approximately 3 seconds.

On the ground, opening time is slightly less and closing

Makes sense because of, you know, the 200kt airstream pushing against them.

 

Really though... 0.3? Where'd you get that number? I don't even think you can transit the stabs that fast.

I was trying to figure out to open them only 40% if they open that fast.

They are opened / closed by the button on the throttle. I highly doubt that they will be ever mapped to axis, unless player does it on it's own.

So you have "on / off" and nothing in between? :D

Unlike many airliners, speekbrakes or spoilers are not operated by an axis in the real A-10, but a two way switch on the throttle, right above the boat switch.

 

I'd bet a real A-10 pilot would get a pretty good idea how much speedbreak he has out only by feeling how the aircraft handles when extending them.

I've mapped it to my throttle slider on the X52. You need to set it up using the SST software.

I'm guessing that being slammed into the straps and the noise gives you a pretty good indication of how open they are. Personally I think they work just perfect but always have to have a quick look over the (virtual) shoulder to see how open they are. :pilotfly:
