Hi Guys,

Well... the door bell rang this afternoon with this heavy box (the delivery man almost laugh at me when I tried to pick it up!!!) ... Sure enough, it was my HOTAS!

Working at home, I had to push the box back in my room and trying to focus on my work. Didn't work... let's open that package and see *THE THING* ... Gossshh... It's huge, solid, heavy, very impressed with the built quality.

For that, I would like to thanks all of you who recommended this HOTAS, I only did 2 flights (2 landing training, since I'm new to the sim) and I do love the feel of the stick, even if I was surprise how much pressure you have to put on it to make it move.

I was wondering if someone have a quick guide / chart of what all the button / hat / etc / etc are used for. I'm not too familiar with the terms like TMS, CMS, DMS, RDR ALTM, EAC, Engine Overrive, and so on.....

I know it's probably all on the 900 pages of the manual, but I was just wondering if someone have a quick startup guide to start.

:pilotfly:

Again, appreciated.

Regards, Delerium

Congratulations! You'll love that thing. :)

Aye, I came to the hog from an x52, and it took a couple days to get used to it. Nowadays I have the opposite problem if I try to use the x52 again. :D

The most awesome thing with it though is when you get used to the precision you can have with the throttles. You can literally finetune to the knot. (While getting used to the throttles btw, get into the habit of "walking" them - that is, when precision is needed, gently nudge one forward, then the other. This'll help make sure you don't "overdo" your adjustments.)

You'll find most of that on the Flight Manual, pages 86 through 92. Most of it is intuitive once you learn the logic:

DMS: Data Management Switch. Handlers your data and sensor functions like TAD/TGP zoom, SPI's (Sensor Point of Interest) and such.

TMS: Target Management Switch. Does most of the targeting stuff, like setting a SPI (basically "locking" a target for all sensors), stabilising your mavericks and such.

CMS: Countermeasures Switch. Starts/stops and selects countermeasure programs and activates/deactivates the self-protection jammer.

Anyways, if you have a printer, I'd definitely recommend that you do a selective page print of those pages. They'll be very nice to have while learning it for quick reference unless you have a second screen or tablet to display it on.

Thanks!

Just printed out the pages and it's exactly what I was looking for ... Of course, I'm a bit lazy since my playing time is little bit short...

Next training will be the combat... even thought I don't remember all the steps to start the plane ;)

Thanks buddy!

There are plenty of DCS A-10C tutorials on YouTube regarding all types of situations - I found it helpful to follow along, "ghosting" commands on my TMHW. It really helped to quickly learn where everything was as well as which commands did what (and when, depending on the SOI).

Good luck and enjoy!

Aye - important!

That's gonna be the new mantra. With the Cougar it was 'Check the Gimbals for Grease'!

Yep, a Warthdog... whatever that is :) Congrats! Must be a Cousin of my Warthog. Pretty excited you where heeh ! :) Pretty understandable.

Follow the mantras:

1) Update firmwares (stick and Throttle)

2) if you find you have to put too much strenght, some people switvhed the grease of the gimbal for Lithium grease and have reported an improvement.

3) Blues Skies and Blackened Tanks.

Congrads Delerium,

If down the road you still think the stick is to heavy you can change out the large spring and move the small springs to the top and this will ease up the tension alot. This is what I did and I love the new feel.

Hi guys,

Thanks alot for all your great input (HOTAS diagrams, firmware update).

I didn't have time to fly alot this week, work being my priority for now.

I'll keep you update on how my training goes... This FlightSim is pretty complex!

Thanks, see ya soon!

Probably be pretty hard to find one in Australia. I'll most likely have to import, which unfortunately will bump the cost up a whole lot more...

If anyone knows a good place to order one, or if there are any aussies here that know if it's possible to order one somewhere within the country, that would be awesome.

Cheers.

How does one update the firmware? didn't see anything about that when I opened my new HOTAS last week. Thanks.
