One possible request -- noob here needs a little more guidance on how to shoot that second Mav. Followed directions in the tutorial, acquired first target and fired and scored a hit. But maybe took a little too long and I need to go around or alter my approach. How then to recenter the TGP at the waypoint, in order to find those targets again? Or maybe I need to shift my attention to the next wp? How do move the TGP there, once I already have it set somewhere?

I am, of course, taking time to RTFM as I go but it is one big-ass manual, and I find that these instructional videos are really helpful -- maybe there is one out there that addresses this?

After taking out the first target, you need to extend out to sea and come around for another pass. Note that in this lesson, you're using the MAV optical sensor to view the target, not TGP.

Make sure Waypoint 3 (Range) is your current steerpoint, and with the MAV display as your SOI, press china hat forward long to slave the MAV to the target area.

Note that the second MAV is the AGM-65D with an infrared seeker, so you must turn on your laser (front left panel) or you won't be cleared to fire.

I am not familiar with the mission you are refering to Ripcord but when you slew your TGP or MAV towards the target with China hat forward long check out all the targets even if you need to hold in an orbit out of range of any nasties:)

Then you can use markpoints if you like but I am lazy and rarely bother. Lock up your first target with the TGP and make it your SPI make MAVs your SOI and china hat forward long. If you can aquire the first target quickly and get off a MAV then you have time to either slew the next MAV on the rail to the next target ( that you already discovered right:thumbup:) and get a lock and fire or go back to TGP find the next target again(This is where markpoints can help) make it your SPI back to MAVs yadda yadda yadda;)

You can get proficient enough to fire off 4 MAVS on a single pass eventually:D

On a good day, I can get 3-4 off. But, I normally rifle two and then break to steer clear of any threat engagement zones that may be there. Good for keeping the chief happy when I get back.

To clarify an earlier point, you do not need the laser for an IR Maverick. The Mav seeker locks on the objects IR signature not on a reflected laser. You could use the laser to determine the range to the target but most tanks etc are equiped with LWS's so I would avoid doing that as it just warns them and they can take defensive measures.

How then to recenter the TGP at the waypoint

China Hat Aft Long slaves all sensors to the Steerpoint (aka current Waypoint).

One thing I have not seen mentioned so far, which I found helped me tremendously with ripple firing mavs is to put the TVV over the target on approach. This allows much greater precision when slewing the Mavs. I can consistently fire off one mav per two/three seconds if the targets are clearly visible in the Mav viewfinder.

If you are not flying directly toward the target the moment you slew the mav onto the next target you will be fighting the natural tendency for the crosshairs to wander.

Hope this helps

Yep, I went back and re-flew the MAV training mission and started to get the hang of it.

Next up is mastering the CDU input so I can start getting the tactical scoop from JTAC. Been watching some good vids on you-tube, something to guide me when I sit down to RTFM.

...but China Hat Fwd Long does slave all the sensors to the Steerpoint!;)

China Hat Aft Long slaves TGP to steerpoint

*In air to air mode, slaves AIM9 to TGP

I stand corrected. I just tend to think of it that way.;)

Not all sensors, just the TGP.

Right you are.

And mavs

Also right, in that if all Sensors are slaved to SPI (as a result of China Hat Forward Long) and TGP is setting SPI, then moving the TGP crosshairs, whether snapping to SP with China Hat Aft Long or otherwise, will also move the Mavs.

:D. I'n not at my machine, but when I get there, I'm gonna try and execute as I posted above. I'll post again if it turns out I was talking out of my asterisk.

You are not :)

If the TGP is the SPI-Generator and you have slaved all sensors to the SPI (including Mavs), then the Mavs will slew to follow the SPI if the SPI is moved with the TGP set as SOI (Mav seeker/wagon-wheel in the HUD will follow SPI).
