A hassle free start-up

Apologies if this has been covered somewhere before; I can't find it...

 

I am aware their is an 'auto-start-up' button. When pressed it only seems to take me so far into the start up procedure.

 

Does anybody know what I would have to do to finish the job - IE: up to what state of the manual start-up procedure does the auto start-up button take you?

 

Right now I'm editing missions so I can start in the air, but when it comes to the campaign I presume I'll need to know this.

 

 

Sorry if I sound like a lazy flyer, but I can't bring myself to do the whole procedure manually every time.

I don't got the game installed right now and last played it some time ago. How long do you wait after pressing the autostart-key ? Because it really takes some time to get that baby flying. Aligning the INS takes some minutes. I could imagine that this looks to you like nothing happens in this time.

Leftwin + home IIRC.. I however don't use it.

 

Harv: alternatively: you could learn the startup yourself. It can be a bit complicated at first, but once you are used to it, it will become a regularity and you will enjoy it.

Answer is: Learn the start up and forgot that damnit Cheat start up. Just follow my sig :music_whistling:

 

EDIT: The reason why you´ve to forget that thing is, because only when you learn what happens while the start up, and why it happens, so you can understand certain things pretty much more. I highly recommend you to go through the Forum, espacially the Start up threads. Just search for Ramp start or Start up and you´d should find a lot. It doesn´t make any sense to play the game just to play it. By doing this you´ll get off the fun of it quite fast. Take the time and learn that stuff. If you have questions according to special things, ask us.

I've waited a while with auto startup to see if it completes all stages but I don't think it does. IE; nosewheel steering and pitot are steps I seem to have to complete and of course, EGI, EAC and Radar Alt switches will have to be punched and thrown manually.

Hmm, I agree with most of the guys: Learn the Start-up procedure.

 

Why? Because you learn a LOT about the systems dependencies and switches.

 

This knowledge is EXTREMELY useful when you get shot at and experience system failures.

If you know which switches need to be functioning, or flipped to get the autopilot or PAC running for example (SAS, IFFCC, EAC, etc.)

 

You understand where the power from the avionics come from (e.g. why a left engine hit black out certain systems).

 

And last but not least, it is very rewarding to get the Hog rollin' after manually starting up :thumbup:

 

To your question: one of the last things to do when starting up is engaging nose wheel steering. Look for the signal to light up. If Autostart is modelled correctly it should do this... if not wait until the NAV align ready is flashing and your TADS shows the flightplan.

 

I used the auto start just 1-2 times, because it is sooo boring to wait for the AI doing all the stuff.

 

BEWARE: do not flip any switches yourself, 'cause you may interfere with the Autostart! :D

Harv, once you get the startup figured out, you could get up in the air within 5 minutes of joining. I know that seems like a long time when you just want to go, but I can get all my systems running and ready to taxi in under 5 minutes. The 4 minutes for the EGI to align takes the longest, but while that's working, I'm doing everything else. Think of it as being on a 5 minute alert without having Paulrkiii standing there with the GPU already connected, lol.

Learning the startup procedure honestly isn't that difficult because it follows a very logical order. After two "tutorial starts" I could start the plane up from scratch every time without any trouble because of my above-mentioned point. Just a side note: if you don't like waiting for the INS to align itself you can always change the alignment mode from "GROUND" to "INFLT" which will use the A-10C's GPS system to help align the INS a lot faster than it's standard alignment process and will allow you to move even during the alignment process.

.. and make coffee

 

and then come back to your box

and see if the Auto-Startup did OK

.. and can even interrupt Auto-Startup to hurry up things

.. and 'fix' things when you confuse Auto-Startup

 

.. if DCS changed something

.. you know what button to push

 

I use Auto all the time

I don't use the auto start but I have been curious myself after watching it once. The reason is that I have no idea what it did or did not do without looking at every panel in the plane.

 

Someone at ED should know the answer since it is not documented anywhere.:book:

 

The short answer, IMHO, is that if you don't want to manual start the thing change your mission to runway start and be done with it.;)
