DCS is primarily a multiplayer oriented game ...

Since the vast majority of DCS customers don't play MP, the rest of your post doesn't amount to much of a concern.

I agree with that statement now that Sith has responded back regarding his testing setup.. I was assuming 2 things when I posted..

1) EDGE would require a better graphics card than the current renderer...(That may not be the case based on Sith's info)

2) I assumed that Mig29 was asking his question with the emphasis on where he should focus his money when the upgrade time comes... I was simply saying that his CPU looks to be the strongest part of his setup and that the GPU may very well be the weakest and might be the place to spend his money to get the best bang for his buck...

Strictly my opinion and so that is all it is worth at this point!

Copy that! His GPU is def the most eligible piece for an upgrade. I just wanted to make sure he knew that he likely wouldn't be required to target cards that are that high end, unless of course he had the budget and was looking for something in that top tier performance range. If he can afford it and wants top performance, those are awesome recommendations (I have an R9 280x and I recommend it as well, although DCS runs better on nVidia cards per many others' comments). Until the recommended specs are released it is all hearsay anyway but from what testers have said, there is much improved utilization of existing GPU's (due to EDGE being ran on DX11, which is what most more modern GPU's were optimized for)...but at the same time, that is for more recent GPU's and the more dated GPU's may get passed by completely. Who knows at this point, but I'm glad to see Sith is getting by okay with his card, should hopefully put some other guys at ease.

Far as I know nothing is changing in that area besides loads of work taken up by your GPU now instead of your CPU....

Same here, hence the question.

Not sure exactly where I saw that but based on your post I am getting the sinking feeling that this statement may not be correct...

And if they DON'T incorporate multi threading, then the CPU that MIG29 is using may not be as good for EDGE as I previously thought. (I based that statement on the multi threading)

Cichild I responded back on that a page or so ago.. I think you may have missed what I said...

Please disregard the multi threading statement as I must have been mistaken.. Sorry for muddying up things...

Actually I think based on possible current pricing for 340km map you are looking at closer to $70,000,000 for the entire world.... still in? :)

They may offer a discount for the water areas...

Now where did I put that Mastercard?....

Well, I'd really like to see something like a procedural terrain elevation outside "Map areas" , based on simplified data, but covering the whole globe. Then replace each area where a new map gets available with that detailed map... would be awesome to hike from somewhere in Europe to Georgia fly a mission and back.

Well even for that I'm willing to pay $50...

At risk of drifting off topic again in this thread... I dont think the whole world makes sense for what DCS World is supposed to be... I would like to have much of the world in a number of different maps... but I am not going to encompass the globe in my A-10... mostly because I suck at refuelling :)

Well, yeah... not in the A-10, but an F-18 launched in the Persian Gulf taking on a mission in Iraq, Turkey or Georgia might be ok. I wouldn't try the Nevada - Georgia trip either, but it could enable a quite interesting bond between future maps with conflict zones, without having to include too much detail and effort...

I've been thinking the same for the longest time. "Blank" map of only generic airports that comes free. Protect purchased maps on to it. You get the entire world and the detailed maps.

I'd say such a thing fits perfectly with DCS. You'd not only use it for global flights, but to assist in missions focused on detailed maps. Perfect example is the current map as there is really no sane place for high value aircraft to operate from. Also, a globe provides an excuse for modeling B-2's.

I'd work out a payment plan, mow a few extra lawns.

But it better have realistic ocean, lake and sea colors.

OrbX Indian Ocean Scenery.. lol.

with all the terrain packages now, I wouldnt be surprised if they Tried an Ocean/Navy Scenery Package.

could you imagine the memory usage? lol.. I have missions now that use 12-14+ GB in Caucaus alone..... add in the rest of the world, scenery, objects, airport beacons..... yikes!

Yes, I imagine the memory usage being around that one of global former Microsoft's Flight Simulators and Prepar3d. Seems to be no problem since this works there. Luckily they had coders realizing it would make no sense to have the game keep all the world's scenery, objects and beacons loaded into the memory at the same time.;)

I'd like some basic questions answered, such as will SLI benefit from edge like other modern directx 11 games. Also will we see a improvement when running EDGE with a direct x 11 card? This would be great information to know...

At this point I don't care what it costs. I just want to take a screen shot without mountains that look like background from the movie "The Point".

^ Yeah this.

After all these years I'd give up my first born for a new map right now!

I don't mind either that the first new map is for a training area, as I spend about 80% of my time practicing and flying training routines. Some Red Flag based scenarios will be enough for a bit of head to head action around Nevada. I also understand the stated reasons ED went with Nevada for their first new map.

$40-$50 seems quite reasonable to me given the work that seems to have gone into Nevada (not to mention Edge). What we have seen so far looks pretty good to me. It also looks like we are moving away from those empty, sterile worlds as well, at least to some degree anyway.

Time will tell though, and if ED wants to keep selling new maps for $40-$50, then they will have to make it worth $40-$50 to their customers. Based on what has rolled off their virtual production line so that though, I suspect we'll be pretty happy for the most part (once any initial bugs are ironed out).

While nothing much has been disclosed, you certainly get he feeling from all those behind the scene (partners, developers, testers) that there is a lot of really good stuff coming with 2.0.0. I can't wait.

So for how long time after EDGE release we can buy NTTR map through Steam?Do ED developers have any idea when Steam users can buy it, or they simply waiting for all circumstances after release? And also I waiting for F-86F Sabre on Steam because I can't wait for it... :joystick:

The release of EDGE (with v2.0.0) has not been stated to include the release of NTTR. The Sabre is supposed to be available through Steam on August 9.
