ttaylor0024 Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Well, after getting my rudder shot off and making a successful landing, I am wondering what others have survived! Post your "How did I survive that" screenshot/videos here! :D I just made a successful bombing on a bridge in campaign, but got spiked from a SAM. Managed to avoid the first, but the 2nd got me and took one of my rudders with it. I managed to get back to Batumi and make a not-so-stellar landing, but it worked and I lived! I couldn't get it recorded (programs to do this anyone?)
LostOblivion Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Hehe, I've had that a couple times. Flying with one operational rudder in the A-10 is like trying to fly a sheet of paper--it seems to glide all over the place, but it usually lands okay. Nice plane on that gun... Jona33 Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 River raider, strela got me as I was leaving the sixth bunker in ruins. There was more visible damage to the left but my right engine shut down. Who want's to see what happened next? Not my most successful landing ever.:megalol: Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing
ttaylor0024 Posted October 22, 2011 Author Posted October 22, 2011 Hehe, I've had that a couple times. Flying with one operational rudder in the A-10 is like trying to fly a sheet of paper--it seems to glide all over the place, but it usually lands okay. Thats no joke, I was literally flying sideways on my FA to Batumi. I couldn't put down soon-enough safely and eventually touched down halfway down the runway, and had to put it into a side to make sure I didnt go into the ocean!
LostOblivion Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Hehe, nice way of practicing crosswind landings, though! Nice plane on that gun... OS764 P930@4 MBUD3R M6GB G5870 SSDX25 CAntec1200 HTMHW
ironstrike Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 (edited) Back when I was just beginning practicing with gun runs, I had a nasty habit of pulling too late and and too hard and snapping wings like balsa wood. I have no idea how I managed to rip both of them off at the same time, but this aileron-free flight back and landing at Batumi was the result. Good times. :pilotfly: Edited October 23, 2011 by ironstrike Added screenshot. Hoggit reddit.com/r/hoggit

ttaylor0024 Posted October 22, 2011 Author Posted October 22, 2011 lol this thread is supposed to be about great saves from damages :P There is a video here somewhere, where the guy looses half his wing on one side, and takes engine damage I think too, and manages to make it like 50 miles back to base and have a perfect landing
Mack Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 I break tails all the time. I like terrorizing my victims as they are being lit up and typically learn how to fly a broken ship as a result. It's a phase I am going through, mostly caused by a suboptimal joystick that I am replacing. In one case I had a rudder off and an engine flameout. It was like 50Nm of Caucasus Drift as I slew the Hog in for a landing. Good training.

Frostiken Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 My favorite video was the one posted on here of the guy flying back all shot up with his engines on fire, and about three hundred feet away from the runway, both wings randomly snap off and he explodes :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
LostOblivion Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 (edited) SA-15 + SA-3. Both engines out. I thought the SAM in my mission had bugged out and did not fire, so I tested them...turned out they worked just fine... Managed to glide her down on an allied base and land safely with manual reversion. Both main gears tires had been blown off, so I had to bring her down on the belly. :) Edited November 13, 2011 by LostOblivion 1 Nice plane on that gun... Megagoth1702 Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 You guys do way to many gun runs... I like to pick em from a distance with mavericks and GBUs. Mack Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 I've seen a bird in that same condition flying with both engines on fire leaving a smoke trail miles long. Of course a MP server bug where the platform was not depopulated but still fun to take a screenshot of. Or maybe the flying Dutchman of the DCS universe?
