Black Shark 2 Released

WOW, THIS IS GREAT! Lots of great little additions I am noticing over even the current version of A-10, and not even yet mentioned in A-10C patch notes. For example:

 

Abkhazian and South Ossetian border outlined on ME map

New units, armed house, armed barracks, armed guard tower....

i saw the new pictures of the black shark. very nice to see the soft shadows working. but does it have normal maps? you can cut down on the polygons a lot that way.

Do you really wanna pay 180 bucks plus the cost of a new module when or if ED reaches a 10th plane that they model?

 

Think of it another way - how much would it cost in terms of development resource to simultaneously maintain 10 games?

Unfortunately, the old statement has seen a lot of repetition even recently in articles by the press and on other forums, but these have not been ED statements. As I am sure you understand, it is hard for ED to run around and correct the whole internet, if you excuse the slightly hyperbolic expression.

 

They don't have to correct anything stated in the past, but they could have came out officially (e.g. via Matt Wagner) and said something about it. This way it looks like that after the FC2 model was a success, they decided to drop the original idea and follow the same payware upgrade approach.

 

I don't see how we can really close this issue till we get a clear idea what's the current plan for the future module and upgrades. I hope it's something more elegant (and affordable) than FC4, BS3, WH2..

Just so I'm clear on The BS2 Patch install over BS 1.02,I need to uninstall then reinstall BS 1.00 then install BS2?

The patch apparently needs 1.0 installed at this point, so Uninstall 1.02 patch (or uninstall everything and reinstall 1.0) to get back to BS 1.0. Then install BS 2.0 patch. You'll now have 1.0 and 2.0 installed. Repatch your 1.0 back to 1.02 for FC2 compatibility or delete it if you don't need it.

 

Or skip all the trouble, give up on FC2 and buy the $40 version to be ready for DCS and help out ED! :)

No, but 1.02 will retain it. So if you "patch" BS1.02 you'll end up with two games installed. BS 1.02 for FC2 flights and BS2 for DCS flights.

Ok, has FC3 been confirmed somewhere officially by ED and I was just blind to it? I notice that I can select my F-15C, A-10A, Su-27, Su-25s, etc. in Black Shark 2 mission editor to be multiplayer clients.

I believe you can just reinstall v1.0 to a temp directory (if you already have v1.02 activated) and then install the upgrade.

Keep in mind, I don't know how to fly this thing (not sure how I did not crash into that ship:D) and I have to adjust some things, colorwise perhaps. There does seem to be a washed out effect when the cam was down low near the water.

I just don't get it when seing people arguing about an upgrade for $19.99.

 

If Eagle Dynamics sell 10.000 copies we are talking about $199900 liquid income. Presuming that a programmer will have an annual 700000 roubles sallary (+- $22800), that income will pay almost 9 programmers. In The DCS A-10C manual Credits page, I'm counting 28 programmers!

 

DCS BS2 is a product and Eagle Dynamics is an enterprise that must have a cash flow. If not, it must close the doors!

Exactly. They are the same platform, so upgrading 10 games would scale much better. Depending on how well the work scales will determine the amount of effort required and therefore the cost. So I think as more modules come out the cost for shared content will have room to drop.

 

I mean seriously it's a $50 expansion every year and $15 a month to play warcraft!
