Black Shark 2 Released

I know it's 3:30 AM because I was now tempted to debate the philosophical point of whether that includes the statement itself, and if so, if things then stop being subject to change...

Bah... Time for sleep. I should be able to get at least 4 hours... :D

SO I see they are going to look into compatibility with the steam version of BS, but will there be a steam version of BS2 eventually? I would rather buy it through steam, but if there wont be a version for steam I would like not to have to wait for nothing :)

Please update if a steam version of BS 2 is being worked on or not please :pilotfly:

sagepay sucks and doesn't work. please do steam version.

thanks.

Regardless of the financial aspect, I'm concerned about the apparent lack of separation between "DCS engine" and "DCS flyable". Instead of a modular approach (module = flyable, terrain ...) it seems like a forked development. If this is the case then future maintenance ("compatibility patches/upgrades") could slow down the progress of the DCS series noticeably.

* puts on the flame-resistant suit * ;)

+1, most intelligent post of this whole thread . I hope ED eventually figures out a more elegant solution before in the year 2018 we have 150 GB of DCS modules installed to 7 different directories, 90 % of which (by hard drive space, not by development effort) is just multiple copies of the Caucus map, Nevada map, non-flyable aircraft etc. Not to mention it will be murder on my monthly internet quota.

But I have no problem paying for the continued development of this amazing series, especially when some people will gladly pay $60 for Battlefield of Halo: Modern Warfare 14 or whatever, which is 99% just Ctrl-C Ctrl-V :)

Let me see if I understand this.

I have DCS:Ka50. I have DCS:A10C.

And I have to pay to play them together?

...also to get all the extra goodies!:D

I am afraid that that is the way it going to have to be. Time and effort costs money. Frankly with so much work being put in by a team that seems to be increasing in size, into a relatively low volume product, the prices are going to rise. I don't speak for ED at all but I think this is true.

The item in the FAQ regarding this has in fact never changed. Things have a tendency to go sideways at the worst times, so the language was carefully chosen. Now, it has always been our hope, wish, desire to do free patches, but the amount of new content, time, and resources that went into the upgrade led us down this path. We are not a non-profit charity and have to make hard decisions in order to keep the doors open and continue making the games we love. I'm sorry that a few members here are not happy with our decision and I hope you will still enjoy our products.

I cannot promise when or if it will happen, but we are certainly investigating a means of better integrating the entire DCS series.

I am surprised to see people complain here. I can understand your point, but can't see why you guys are being narrow minded at this matter of paying for BS2.

Consider all the sport franchises...upgraded rosters, minor improvements and 60$ for every single yearly installment by EA. On the other hand, ED made the mistake of just saying that their DCS modules will be made compatible..and even though they added many other features and improvements missing from BS1, people are still complaining for 20$. That is 1/3rd the price of Fifa 12, NBA, NHL, Madden...F1 2011 etc.

People, be happy that ED is still the only major flight sim producer making premium flight simulators. They still fail to improve of explosion FX and dynamic lighting, but lol... :P apart from that, they have made tremendous strides. I think its in our best interests and our need for quality flight simulators to support them.

Just my 2 cents.

I'm having a hard time using my DCSW created mission in the new BS2 release. I sent you a PM regarding the matter, Nate. I hope it is not intrusive, as I know you guys have your minds set on many things right now.

I don't recall if this question has been asked yet, but here it goes, is BS2 compatible with FC2 like DCS BS was?

I really hope they figure it out, but I think the chances are not better than us getting a dynamic campaign like Falcon in the DCS products ;)

The best improvement for me in BS2 is the new Mi-8 model. I followed the old model in way too many escort missions and it is just plain ugly. Thanks for a model that actually looks like a helicopter! <3

This is not a guarantee of anything, but try to simply re-save the mission in the BS2 editor. Sometimes doing so updates the internal mechanics of the mission and fixes any left-over issues.

BS2 is not compatible with FC2.

That's a bummer.

I uninstalled BS 1.02 and reinstalled it without the patch. It asked for an activation so I reactivated it. There was no folder for it on the start menu and it wouldn't launch. I reinstalled it and it still won't launch although I do have a folder for it now. The error message is ...\blackshark\modules\me_options.lua:753: table index is nil . I tried the BS2 install and that worked and will launch but I lost the folder for DCS A10C and FC2 and they won't start now either. BS2 works but it looks like I'll have to reinstall everything else from scratch and BS doesn't work after 2 fresh installs. BS, FC2 and A10C all worked prior to uninstalling BS.

I chose "Save as", and then overwrote the same file, then opened it again, then tried to run it. No change. Seems like the GroupDead and UnitDead rules always evaluate to true at the very start of the msision, although the units are actually alive. I have sent a detailed description of the problem to Nate, including the files. Thanks for the help. :)

I own Blackshark1 but it's not currently installed. I just purchased the patch to go along with it. My question is: Do I download the original and the patch or should I just download the Blackshark 2 full install? Does it matter? i have both keys.

My guess is that if you bought the patch and go to the full product download screen, you will not see your key, indicating that it is not valid for that product.

Assuming you are logged in, that is.

Even the game process is called "DCS: Warthog", the viewports are named "LEFT_MFCD" and "RIGHT_MFCD", etc. It really is a modded DCS: A-10C ;)

Btw, you really should release new Campaigns for a few dollars. Stuff like the "Deployment"-Campaign. Or other small add ons, people would buy it.

Just bought it and will probably buy every single large upgrade they release in the coming years...

Hell, I'd buy DCS-A10C-3 if that means it'd be compatible with DCS-Fighter/Attacker!!!

But please, ED...

Try and find a more elegant way of putting those modules together!!!! Please... pretty please...

Right now I have Flaming Cliffs 2.0, Black Shark 1.0, Black Shark 2.0, A-10 1.0. :joystick: :pilotfly: Not to mention Lomac and Flaming Cliffs 1.2!!! :pilotfly:

I fly all of them, but it's a nightmare to keep track of all the missions and profiles and such.

I'm sure you guys can figure out a clever way of putting all of them together seamlessly... one executable, one installation folder... get into the simulator, pick rotary of fixed and 'way you go blowin' stuff up!!! :pilotfly::thumbup:

Thanks for the upgrade anyways... :smilewink:
