Dear Sir/Madam,

It is my sincere intent to purchase DCS Blackshark 2, given that I already own a steam BS1 version. I agree to pay the 40 bucks G/T provided I have assurance that my rig (with specs in my signature) will run the game like BS1 with Medium graphics settings, High only textures, all else is disabled and turned medium.

Nothing other than DCS A10 c (ED purchase), and steam (BS1 purchase) exists on this machine. No other games run.

I have downloaded the 4.95 Gb torrent file and await your input on the matter for proceeding with the purchase on your website.

Also, what are the feats for upcoming modules that I will automatically be part of in terms of beta testing/discounts, etc... IF I purchase BS2 from your website with its current price.

Kind Regards,

N_O

Nobody can give you such an assurance. Try it out, AFAIK you can get your money back if it doesn't work out. I wouldn't expect too much from the specs of your notebook, though.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

Sobek, would you be kind to send me a private message with the money back guarantee terms? Could you forward this thread to the man in charge of money back just we're on the right track?

And eagle, I meant ED offered like free things to those that volunteer to the beta and I wonder if any freebie (like nevada map for A-10 or any other thing..) exists for buyers of complete BS2 from ED's website.

EDIT: And like I mentioned, my specs are in the signature. Kindly take a look and tell me if its go for medium or low or high (doubtful).

Where does one start.........

It is my sincere intent to purchase DCS Blackshark 2, given that I already own a steam BS1 version.

Jolly Good.

......provided I have assurance that my rig (with specs in my signature) will run the game like BS1 with Medium graphics settings, High only textures, all else is disabled and turned medium.

Assurance? You serious?

In any event, if you have A-10C running, BS2 should be about the same, give or take a couple of FPS. Oh yes, definitely no assurances on the afore-said statement.

No other games run.

Because they cannot? That right there should set the alarm-bells ringing.

I have downloaded the 4.95 Gb torrent file and await your input on the matter for proceeding with the purchase on your website.

Cm'on - do the reasonable thing and trust in the advice of your peers. Read the tech-support and PC Hardware forums. It's all there.

Also, what are the feats for upcoming modules that I will automatically be part of in terms of beta testing/discounts, etc... IF I purchase BS2 from your website with its current price.

This is what you get:

OK. I'll roll the dice and cross my fingers... What I meant with the whole no other games run, is that I have no installs of other games on the machine. It's just DCS A10c and BS1 (steam) only on my laptop. Not that I cant run stuff. I had Arma 2 OA, FSX, SH4, SH5 and Patrician 4 SSE installed but were *ucking with eachother and with me. So I removed all. You can safely say that it's a DCS laptop sorta speak.

Which has absolutely nothing to do with how well a given program will perform.

There's nothing special about notebooks. Certain operating systems and hardware platforms are recommended and required as per the specifications (intel/AMD processors of certain types, nVidia/AMD GPU's of certain types etcetera). There's nothing magic about "notebooks" that make them unable to run computer games, and indeed in the market of gaming notebooks/laptops (sometimes referred to as "desktop replacements") there is a lot of hardware you can get that will absolutely destroy what most people have in their desktops. (When DCS:BS was released I was using such a system, and it played that simulator without any problems at all, and did just fine in shooters, strategy games and everything else I threw at it. I had to pay a bit of money for it (~15k SEK) but meh, it was worth it since I travelled a LOT back then, averaging about 200 hotel nights per year.)

Thus, quite simply, a "notebook" is "supported" if it conforms to the system requirements. Don't make it more complicated than it has to be. ;)

Hope it works out for you man. If not, consider a gaming PC to get the most out of it. You can build a well spec'd pc for around a grand US these days.

Many games state that Notebook isn't supported.

As in they have crappy gfx chipsets that doesn't fully support Dx/OpenGL.

I'm very aware that more and more gaming notebooks is hitting the market.

I've played loads of games on my notebook aswell while traveling, so I know that most games can be run even though you have an old or underpowered GPU.

But you can't buy a game and demand a specific FPS.

Especially on a notebook..

Are you mixing up the concepts of "Notebook" and "Netbook"?

"Gaming Notebooks" are not a new phenomenon, and the graphics chipsets on them have always supported DX/OpenGL. Again, what you are talking about is the old Intel GMA and similar chipsets - which is already covered by saying "Radeon yadayada and nVidia hummena DX whatever". I have never seen a system requirement that says "oh, and don't use a notebook".

And while I agree you can never buy a game and demand a specific FPS (well, except for in Rage... If you fill the reqs on that one you get 60fps, period, due to the autobalancer; that's one of the features being sold. :P ), it has absolutely nothing to do with "notebooks". In fact, you get exactly the same chipset issues with desktop computers (or at least, you did until the advent of the IGPs) at specific price points since they would be using exactly the same intel GMA's as the cheaper notebooks did. ;)

noc,

I have heard a several tales of ED giving refunds to people who cannot make the game run on their machine. So it looks like this is not a guarantee by ED, but something they will often do for customers who sincerely appear to have some sort of issue running the game. It's a good business practice, so they do it. But they do not guarantee it, apparently.

However, when has computer software EVER NOT been "buy at your own risk"? It always is. That ED does in fact refund people at least sometimes who cannot make the software run speaks highly of them.

What Speed said. :)

ED has refunded on many occassions for many types of issues, and has issued keys for similar things (including a second-hand sale) - all of which are at ED expense (it costs money to refund/issue keys etc, plus of course pure manhours involved in executing these things). So seriously, it's never a case of ED being out to screw people over - ED is trying to be as fair as it can. But doing something when you can and leaving a guarantee is as Speed said quite different things. Indeed, when you look at any game EULA you'll find that you are explicitly purchasing "as-is" with "no guarantte of fitness for a specific purpose".

The only way you ever obtain such guarantees really is in a B2B-transaction with support agreements. So, for example, I suspect the USAF/ANG got such guarantees, but they paid extra for that. :P (But I don't know any specifics of that contract - might be that ED was purely a subcontractor there and such obligations lie with the contracting company.)

I'm rolling the dice. And I don't care if there is a refund or not. But lets be positive and hope it works 25 - 30 fps..
