apoll Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Hi. Just a question: I'm looking for so information in the CDU perhaps about how much remaining range I have with the remaining level of fuel. Is there a CDU page...line somewhere...that provides that updated information? Want to get even more accurate re in flight planning... Thanks. apoll :)
Zenra Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 There is no such functionality in the CDU ( such as in a commercial airliner ). There is a good section on fuel planning in the RL flight manual, available by link in the Manuals & Documents sticky thread. wess24m Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 i'm bias, but the f-16 has that page as well :) still think with the following of the falcon series it would carry over well to DCS.
LiveBait Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 apoll, have you looked at the DCSWiki. Hours of reading there. RobC Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 C/D! Hope they fix the carrier wake first! I always kinda assumed that the fact both DCS modules (And all of the lock on jets) have been single seat wasn't a coincidence. I don't think I would trust the AI to either fly me around or blow up the stuff I want them to after watching some of the shenanigans I have seen them pull :P
TigersharkBAS Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Is something that could be programmed into a tool? That is, like in an iPhone app put in fuel flow and remaining quantity and get approximate flight time and/or distance? bluepilot76 Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Unless your flying across the Atlantic, is any of this really necassary? You can spit from one AB to the next in our current map, and the endurance of the A10 is measured in several hours. Not to mention all the tankers chugging around. Unless your just flying around looking at the view its quite likely you will need to load up something explosive and pointy before you run out of fuel... Eddie Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Unless your just flying around looking at the view its quite likely you will need to load up something explosive and pointy before you run out of fuel... Sorry must have my cynical underpants on today! calculate away to your hearts content! I very much disagree, I (and those I fly with) normally have to RTB after hitting Joker or Bingo before running out of weapons. If you're flying a realistic mission you'd be suprised how much fuel is a concern, even if you're not loitering for hours. Even pre planned missions lasting less than 2 hours will quite often see fuel down to 3000lbs or less on landing. Fuel planning & management is just as important in the Hog as in any aircraft, there just isn't any fuel computer to help you out.
TigersharkBAS Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Can we define what calculation would need to take place. I could build into my upcoming iPhone app. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Creator of: F-18C VFA-195 "Dambusters" 1998 CAG Livery https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=213788 F-18C VFA-195 "Dambusters" July 2001 CAG Livery https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=215950 Pilot avatars for DCS Logbook https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=221160 How to make a DCS A-10C Panel http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=65998
Eddie Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Can we define what calculation would need to take place. I could build into my upcoming iPhone app. All the necessary data should be in the A-10A flight manual.
Dejjvid Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 It's funny as hell flying on public servers with people that always go full throttle. After an hour or two people start to drop down and die without being shot down. rofl :megalol: i7 8700K | GTX 1080 Ti | 32GB RAM | 500GB M.2 SSD | TIR5 w/ Trackclip Pro | TM Hotas Warthog | Saitek Pro Flight Rudder [sigpic]http://www.132virtualwing.org[/sigpic]
FreeFall Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 All the necessary data should be in the A-10A flight manual. Am I completely wrong, but the Flight Manuals says (p. 127)?: 5. Engine Fuel Flow Indicators. Indication of fuel flow to the engines. Normal fuel flow is between 150 and 410 pounds per hour (PPH)This must be wrong? It should be 1500 and 4100 IMHO? The gauge scale is PPH x 100. If the gauge pointer shows approx. 20, it should mean 20 x 100 = 2000 LBS. And if both engines use the same amount, the total is 4000 LBS per hour.

bluepilot76 Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Eddie, do you think landing with 3000lbs is cutting it fine? surely you could fly half way across the map with that. I mean we are not talking commercial aviation here. For example I read the book about the USMC Harrier pilot in Afghanistan, and the UK Apache guys, these people are sometimes landing with mere minutes to spare. Obviously they are keeping a very careful eye on their fuel situation but they were cutting it to the last minute to save bods on the ground, same as I do in A10C world. Not because Im being a hero (modest eh?), but becuase that is prime time fun. Tense! I think people running out of fuel in MP are most probably drunk, off to the toilet, lost interest or lost the fuel gauge. Or just lost. Ah well each to his own. Keeping my cynical pants on for now!
