Rocky49 Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 I am getting a Warthog HOTAS for Christmas. I noted in another thread about motherboards and "bricking" that there has been some discussion about leaving the Warthog plugged in all the time and whether using a USB Hub might cause problems. I normally only have my current HOTAS (X52PRO) plugged into a powered USB Hub when actually using it. Also can't find any mention if the firmware/driver update released in Feb addressed this issue. Can you simply unplug from a powered USB port without issue. Sometimes it stays hooked up, sometimes it gets unhooked for a couple of days. Not one single problem. wess24m Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 plugged mine in, updated the firmware, hasn't been unplugged for 2 months, no issues.
sobek Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 (edited) Mine bricked after about 2 months. Has not been unplugged ever since i got it back from RMA in late February and still works like a charm. Edited December 14, 2011 by sobek Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! RogueRunner Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 I unplug my throttle before I shut the pc down each time. With the price of ammunition these days do not expect a warning shot.
Rocky49 Posted December 14, 2011 Author Posted December 14, 2011 So it would appear that there is no one right way...although it appears that you can leave unplugged without incident maybe:huh: i wonder if this "bricking" just happens because of an errant spike or because of random faults in individual joystick construction? Supersheep Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 Got mine in july, updated the firmware right after I unboxed it and since then never bothered with unplugging. Ocassionally, (ss/cc???) I unplug it for other reasons (need ports, unplug wrong device) but no problems whatsoever. Supersheep The PVC Pipe Joystick Stand How to thread
eagledeer Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 I really don't think its an issue anymore (if it ever was). Congrats and enjoy!
Sarge55 Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 I leave mine plugged in all the time, had it for 6-7 months now and no issues. I do have it plugged into the motherboard though, not a powered hub. Make sure you update the firmware as soon as you get it. Rocky49 Posted December 14, 2011 Author Posted December 14, 2011 Thanks for your input  I have already downloaded the driver package (2011_TMWH_1) ready to install the drivers then update the firmware. TwoLate Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 I think it was a issue at the begging and is fixed. Mine bricked in 2 weeks. The new one has no issue. If any one notice the reports of bricking is almost dead now. I think some of the first off of the line had a bad part from China. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

WarriorX Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 My WH has been plugged in to a 7 port, powered DLink USB 2.0 hub (the WH is the only thing plugged in to it) since the day I got it in Nov 2010. No problems. Follow the advice given already regarding flashing the firmware and ENJOY your HOTAS! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] "Is that you John Wayne?.......Is this me?" MTFDarkEagle Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Had it plugged in during the day untill I installed newer firmware which made the lights go out (considering my cockpit is inside my bedroom). After I installed the firmware the lights went of as they should and now I always have them plugged in (powered 7-port USB2 hub, together with 2MFD's, TrackIR, Saitek TQ and rudder pedals). Ragtop Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Got mine a couple of days after release. Updated the firmware when it became available, and it's never unplugged except when I've been building my pit. No problems whatsoever. 476th vFG Alumni
TwoLate Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Stranger ops, I mean Stanger Do you leave your unit plugged in all the time or unplug after every flight Most of the time I unplug them after I start my computer, (in my wierd way of thinking not because it might brick but not wanting a led light to burn out). If I know I will not play DCS and just surf or other computer stuff, I will unplug. I have no concern at all now of it bricking. I believe the problem is solved either by firmware or hardware.
