PeterP
@cichlidfan you should build something to get a ~5:1 ratio. So you have to turn the trim five times to turn the poti once. You can use simply two different sized gears to do this. This Example shows a 2:1 ratio: (the poti must be connected to the big one) Edited February 12, 2012 by PeterP
effte
Hmmm, I still have an unused Bodnar board. Absolute, as in levers/sliders/pots? There is still time to build a controller I think.:D Have a gander at: http://www.stclairphoto-imaging.com/360/P51-Mustang/P51_swf.html You have the trim knobs down on the port (left) side, behind the throttle. Looking at maintenance manual drawings, cockpit illustrations/photos and going by experience, I think rudder and aileron trim should be with throw as seen on the knobs but elevator trim should have a planetary gear in the mechanism making it a multi-turn affair. PeterP
With all due to respect , but: two gears = horrible control feel though, with play in the trim ... I don't think so. In every RC-Shop you can get gear-sets for really cheap that don't show this behaviour. Should I really write also that the gears have to fit together - and LEGO-Technics is not a really good choice for this ?! ;) Edited February 12, 2012 by PeterP
cichlidfan
Multiround pots... don't know the right term though. Maybe geared pots. The idea is to have maximal control travel for the whole control range. For trimmers, I think. Yes, multi-turn or trim pots, I get that. So these controls have very long axis? Hmmm. Thanks. ED Team Yo-Yo Posted February 13, 2012 ED Team Share Posted February 13, 2012 Yes, multi-turn or trim pots, I get that. So these controls have very long axis? Hmmm. Thanks. By the way, the nice play-free gear one can make from an open type ball bearing. Just fix the outer ring, rotate the inner and notice what bearing race does! I am sure that there are specialised gear devices working the same way. The play can be eliminated by using splitted wheel tensioned with a spring. It was a standard for precise radio gearboxes when variable capacitors were used to tune. PeterP
Seems we will see soon some footage of Flying Legends : P51D господа разработчики! новости будут какие ? ролики обещаные ? Ну погодите немного... сейчас звук допилим и сразу.. Что это за ролик с WIP звуком? Музыку уже Костя сделал, готовимся. ...if my interpretation is right . @ cichlidfan I really don't know -but I would expect its very similar to this: ... but on the other hand: >>> http://flightsim.com/main/review/cesstrim.htm What I Don't Like: Not Plug and Play like other Saitek products Doesn't fit easily under the trim wheel That it is not "Plug and Play" and you need to install software is a great hint that the used potentiometer differs from normal ones. So it could be a multi-turn potitiometer. Edited February 16, 2012 by PeterP

I might pick one up, all things considered the price could be worse and I do fly some other things where I could use it. I might build one eventually as part of another controller so I could make better use of the Bodnar board. Succellus
I really hope ED includes the possibility to create a grass airfield or at least the possibility to refuel and rearm using the same types of units needed to rearm and refuel the Ka-50 on the FARP. If they just add the same rearming and refueling features as the Ka-50 and set a minimum distance from the units to work we could just use a cornfield or other farmland to create new airbase. That will be funny to try "Modern" fighter vs Mustang :p Funny to see such an old craft in DCS but i have to say i wanna fly it :) As a Sidenote i would also like to see the Supermarine Spitfire XIX to go up against the Mustang :pilotfly: A Jet would also be a needed addition thou.
