ARM505
As mentioned in a previous thread: The story went something like this. Somebody had had a party (I seem to remember it was a bachelors party?) and the guy in question got stupidly drunk. So drunk, that they couldn't wake him up in his little accomodation block the next day, in which he'd locked himself. So they decided to 'buzz' his little house, which is where some of the following photo's were taken: Apparently this when he actually passed the house: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v244/ARM505/Thats_Low_.jpg This is the runup: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v244/ARM505/jagnbus.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v244/ARM505/jag3.jpg Another low shot: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v244/ARM505/Jag.jpg And again: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v244/ARM505/Jag4.jpg A Hunter trying not to be outdone: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v244/ARM505/head-on-hunter.jpg And lastly, the car, which was also involved in the drunken party story. The guy in question had to take the CO's car to some base they were relocated to (as punishment for getting so hung over, or something like that), and during his little drive, the CO buzzed him, resulting in a bit of a ding to his own car! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v244/ARM505/Flattened.jpg I hope I got the gist of the stories right, the memories have diminished with time. To add some facts: the guy who told me this was a Captain on DHC6 Twin Otters at an oil rig in the middle of the desert. I was based with him, as co-pilot. He used to fly Buffalo's in Oman, which is where these photo's are from, apparently. I would love to get the full story again, as I'm sure my version is full of errors.

Force_Feedback
My dad told me a story from his service days (he flew the Mi-8T as observator/second pilot) was that one of his mates, an electronics tech, deceided he had the need to piss off the cops, as they were stopping him constantly for speeding... In those days (near the fall of commie-nism) he had a Lada, and well, as I said before, the police was pissing him off, so the dude deceided to "borrow" one section of an ECM transmitter and a RWR antenna (and the control equipment), yes, to be installed in the Lada. The system worked flawlessly, everytime the cops tried turning on their radar gun, the jammer responded (got the modulation, amplified it, and sent it back to the radar gun :p) and the radar gun started smoking. After a while the cops figured it out, and the guy in question was reprimanded, but the base official thanked him for ingenuity and resourcefulness (those jammers just can't work on a 12v 50hz line). Eventually the cops got radar guns with surge protectors, eliminating the possibility of a "smoking gun" :p Creedence Clearwater Revival:worthy:
SUBS17
lol, those are some nice shots, did the Jag make it past that house? Btw jamming the Radar gun, brilliant idea. [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]

Brit_Radar_Dude
A buddy of mine (Nigel Skinner-Simpson) was out there at that time working on Oman's new Marconi long range radar and display systems. I worked for a while on the radar (Martello) myself in the UK. He told me how nuts :icon_roll the seconded pilots were. They could get away with so much more low flying over there compared to back in the UK. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Sorry Death, you lose! It was Professor Plum.... skinns
I think those PICS come from Thumraite, an Airbase on an Island off the coast of Oman, known affectionately as Moon-base Alpha. I visited there in 1990 as a guest of resident RAF instructor seconded to teach the Strike Master (the export version of the Jet Provost) I never saw this low flying myself but the resident Jaguar pilots like to refer to. The Strike Master however also did a lot of crazy low flying and I have a number of "wet film" shots to prove it. 90 years of Excellence
Brit_Radar_Dude
Skinns, actually Thumrait is on mainland Oman, inland (maybe 40 kms?) from the coastal town of Salalah in the South toward Yemeni border. Thumrait sometimes known as Midway, can't remember why, maybe its original name? http://www.fallingrain.com/icao/OOTH.html The island airbase you are thinking of is Masirah. http://www.fallingrain.com/world/MU/4/Sur_Masirah.html [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Sorry Death, you lose! skinns
Brit, many thanks for correcting my poor geography? Of course Masirah, 15 years is obviously too long for me! I visited with my friend whose brother was a RAF "creamy" seconded ed there for about three years or so as a Stikemaster instructor. Getting a visa was a major operation I remember that much. The desert was especially beautiful and the local women wore a very bizarre head dress which consisted of a large "nose board" to support the veil. It gave them quite a sinister appearance to the unprepared like myself. cheers 90 years of Excellence
moonbeast
yes i agree with " vapor " give us a jaguar, im sure we/I have all mentioned this before maybe in future ED projects ( BIG MAYBE) it will give the UK a flyable aircraft, single seater,CAS,BAI or photo recce, supersonic mach 1.35, in flight refueling, laser guided bombs, air to air, dumb bombs, 2x30 mm internal cannons and it will fit into the time frame of lock on, what more would anyone want ?????? thanks for listening moonbeast
Old Softie
Many years too late...but...... I was the Marconi software engineer who replaced Nigel Skinner-Simpson in Oman in 1983. The story that I heard about the flattened Toyota was roughly as follows: There was this pilot stationed at Thumrait. He was due to leave and for some reason (I can't remember) he decided to drive up to Seeb rather than fly. Its a very long, quiet, mostly straight road across the desert. He had to set off while two of his mates were still off flying. They decided that since they had missed his departure, they would fly after him. When they caught up and saw his car, they decided to have some fun and buzz him. The first one did a very low pass, the guy then looks in his rear-view mirror and finds he is looking straight into the eyes of the second pilot. He throws himself down onto the passenger seat and THUMP, the roof gets lowered. He can't sit up so he brakes and coasts to a stop. The Jag pilots assume that they have killed their mate, so they land on the road and dash to the car. Where they can hear some swearing from inside. They get the door open and out he climbs, unhurt. The Jag tail pipes where also rather bashed. I heard this from someone at the BAe mess on MAM base in 1983/4. But did you here the one about the Jag pilot who passed the Yank who was demonstrating his low-flying skills along the runway at Thumrait. He passed underneath him. One rather annoyed American. Ah, happy days.

Pilotasso
I once read about an omanian jaguar been written off after suffering a camel strike... I believe it was on airforces monthly accident list page. That one stayed in my retina, right next to the white backed vulture mig massacre (the migs not the vultures...well those too).
