blackpulpit Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 I was wondering how many Blackshark pilots actually use their Abbris to draw safe boundry lines, draw safe zones, etc, etc? I like to draw colored markers on my map before ingress so I know were a safe zone is from other helos, boundry lines, new waypoints, etc. Basically I am wondering how many actually use the available tools in the abbris to setup certain things beforeattacking? if you do and you have some videos of this or tips could you explain or send a video.
Wichid Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 I've read the manual a few times but right now I'm pretty ignorant of the flight planning side of the ABRIS. I pretty much just use it as a moving map. dooom Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 i used to use it quite a bit - less for marking safe zones though... i used it to mark points of interest in terms of defense.... i.e. valleys, ridge lines, boundaries where i'd get painted. things like that... Darn you . Now i miss the shark. It might be time to dust off my flightstick map and DL BS2 ASUS Tuf Gaming Pro x570 / AMD Ryzen 7 5800X @ 3.8 / XFX Radeon 6900 XT / 64 GB DDR4 3200 "This was not in the Manual I did not read", cried the Noob" - BMBM, WWIIOL
Wichid Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 It's a lot of fun. I went back to it the other day. Lyndiman AMD Ryzen 3600 / RTX 2070 Super / 32G Ram / Win10 / TrackIR 5 Pro / Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS & MFG Crosswind Rudder Pedals
TurboHog Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 It's useful in search and engage missions when a large number of enemy units are spread out in a large unknown area. I estimate distances with the marker tool, draw suspected positions based on laser warnings. When I spot a target I create a datalink for it and then I continue my search to see if it is responsible to engage. I sometimes mark old Datalink positions on the ABRIS. Especially if they are going to be reset in a repair... 'Frett'
blackpulpit Posted May 11, 2012 Author Posted May 11, 2012 Nice to see people using it in that way, most don't but it makes flying and fighting in the shark quite fun, thanks all.

I've put together a tutorial for that - ABRIS Map Marking But I tend to use the ERBL functions more - ERBLs - In-Flight Tool ZoomBoy My Flight Sims Page - Link to My Blog - Sims and Things - DCS Stuff++ - Up-to-Speed Guides to the old Lockon A10A and Su-25T - Some missions [needs update]

seikdel Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 I'll put a plug in here for using the "Prepare Mission" mode to build useful info into the ABRIS. I've just started doing this for the VTAG's dedicated server missions. This way, you can pull up pre-made routes to the different ranges instead of having to locate all the WPs individually. You can do the same thing with lines and other data. For example, if you have a mission with a known SA-11 site, you can add in the known dangerous zone on the ABRIS and give the pilots a heads up. This kind of thing could have saved me on more than one occasion =)
JG14_Smil Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 If you prepare a mission, be sure to delete the view.lua it saves.

Jona33 Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 the view.lua in the directory game?? Hope that don't break nothing. No in the .miz (which can be renamed to .zip to look inside no problem) itself. Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing

I have not. But I will, saw the tute referenced here in the thread. I am more interested in drawing new waypoint plots or enemy targeting ID'ing. I do use the autopilot mode of the PVI-800 when the ABRIS/PVI-800 is not damaged, but I usually fly using the (FD) Flight Director. I am self-taught, so the learning curve is slow. I am a fair to good Intermediate. Been flying the Shark about a year, now. I probably use 80% to 90% of everything the Shark has in the flight manual. I usually fly online: 104th, <51>, 159th, 74th, and Enos are my favorites to date. Safe Zone? LOL! I usually fly, low, high-speed over the combat area to find the threats and hopefully survive. 4 times out and back with the same copter is my record, to date. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Ich666 Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 If it just wasnt so incredibly clumsy to use... Id use it ;)
Mike Busutil Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 I like the fact that I was able to use the options menu in the ABRIS to change the altitude from Meters to Feet, the speed from KMH to Knots, the range from KM to Nautical miles, and the weight from KG to Lbs. I also like the fact I am able to set the clock to my local time and time zone. I am pretty new to building flight plans but I am actually setting up my lines when I am flying actual missions but not when flying multiplayer... Rogue Trooper Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 Kinda on the same topic, In some missions the "known" Air-defences are shown on the abris as is the Air-defences' "threat radius" which alters with altitude. This is a very useful bit of info.... Is it possible to programme the abris (in flight) to do this with any lethal threat you come across?
