cagrimes Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 (edited) Well after a couple of months of hit and miss with learning how to fire the weapons that the A-10C has, today I gave trying to ramp start the Engines. In watching a Engine Start Video on YouTube I got as far as getting the left engine up and running. I can't seem to get the right engine started. The default keyboard key for right engine start is "RCTRL+HOME" but when I press the default keys I get a left forward external view. So I set up a Modifier (RALT+button 11) on my thrustmaster T16000M Joystick but still can't get the Right Engine to start. Can I get some help with this problem??????????? PS Is there a mandatory sequence for starting the engines, like left first or right first ???? Thanks cagrimes Edited May 11, 2012 by cagrimes
Harzach Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 What checklist are you using? Have you read the manual regarding startup procedures?
badger66 Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Dont start them both at the same time , make sure your throttle is back as far as it goes . Check your profile to make sure the throttle slider is all the way back too .
slowhand Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 You may want to dbl ck your key bindings, and like Harzack said you may want to get yourself a good ck list there are alot of good ones out there ck the wiki site or here:thumbup: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=60293 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] SMOKE'M:smoke: IF YA GOT'M!:gun_rifle: H2o Cooler I7 9700k GA 390x MB Win 10 pro Evga RTX 2070 8Gig DD5 32 Gig Corsair Vengence, 2T SSD. Tailgate Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 If you're pressing Rctrl + Home and a cockpit view comes up, then your keys are wrong. Check the keys in the sim configuration and make sure it's not double mapped. Probably unlikely but also check your Keyboard language.
Hamblue Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Also make sure the APU is running when starting the engines. Asus Sabertooth P67 Motherboard 2600k CPU, 16 gig DDR3, 1600. MemphisBelle Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 take a look at the tutorial Collection / Rampstart Tutorials. There you´ll also find my one which covers pretty much beginner skills. You can find the link to the Tutorial Collection in my signature.. besides this, I also recommend to read the manual to make you understand what happens there. have fun BlackSharkDen | BSD Discord | DCS Tutorial Collection
Humvee28 Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Maybe you should use a Checklist for the Startup. I use this one, and i´m really happy with it: http://en.wiki.eagle.ru/w/images/8/88/DCS_A-10_COLD_START_CHECKLIST.pdf [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] My System-Specs @ SysProfile Real Pilots need "No Mark". :D
cagrimes Posted May 11, 2012 Author Posted May 11, 2012 I got something strange going on here with starting the right engine. First of all after the left engine is started and running according to the manual you move the right throttle from off to Idle to start the right Engine. The default key for "Right throttle up step"is RCTRL+PAGEUP. I press those key's a get another External View, but I kept pressing my Modified right engine start buttons and the right engine P.S.I. moves up to 38% then when I retard the right throttle the P.S.I. drops to 30%. Were and how do I go in the Simulator to make sure the Default keys are in fact correct. Because I'm getting external views when I should be getting a function ???????????????? cagrimes

cagrimes Posted May 11, 2012 Author Posted May 11, 2012 Hi Harzach The Googled the Video at " DCS A-10C Ramp Start tutorial-YouTube". cagrimes
cagrimes Posted May 11, 2012 Author Posted May 11, 2012 The Manual says "Once the left engine as stabilized, move the right throttle from the OFF to the IDLE position to start that engine". cagrimes

cagrimes Posted May 12, 2012 Author Posted May 12, 2012 Hello Memphisbelle Great Stert UP Manual,I went through it and had seccess all the way. After calling ATC for promission to start-up/taxie the aircraft wouldn't move. I went to full power and the bird would not move,I looked for a Parking Brake Switch or Lever but couldn't find one. Is there a parking brake on this A-10c or chokes under the wheels ??? cagrimes
FreeFall Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 I looked for a Parking Brake Switch or Lever but couldn't find one. Is there a parking brake on this A-10c No parking brakes. If your wheels are on tarmac and you don't activate the wheel brakes, the plane should move very easily.
hitman Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 (edited) Think you have the key commands messed up. The R/Ctrl Home throttles up that specific engine, the R/Alt Home key turns the other one on. Do what I did, it works, and I learned how to ramp start the A-10 in a few minutes. Watch the tutorial, but keep a pen and paper handy, and write down which buttons/switches to push IN ORDER, and draw a simple schematic of where the switch is located in the cockpit. You should have one anyways, since references are always needed. You dont have to draw the switch, just a simple diagram with which step that switch should be pulled, and how many clicks. cagrimes Posted May 12, 2012 Author Posted May 12, 2012 A-10C WARTHOG PARKING BRAKES After completeing a seccessful Ramp Start following Memphisbelle's Start Up Manual I was ready to go. I called ATC and got permission to Taxie then Take-Off, I advanced the throttle but the aircraft would not move. Even after full power it would not move, is there a Parking brake or Chokes stopping the aircraft? Is it possible I'm doing something wrong or has anyone had this happen to them also ?????? cagrimes
cagrimes Posted May 12, 2012 Author Posted May 12, 2012 Say How do you move the Throttles from OFF to IDLE with NO POWER on the Plane ??????????? cagrimes
hitman Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Post a track, Ill take a look at what your doing wrong.

Thanks cagrimes Ensure fuel boosters are on, APU spooled on, hand over APU Gen, L/R ACDC ON, inverter on, and battery on. When the left goes first, wait for it to idle, then proceed with the right engine. I had no trouble reversing procedure (right first). Post a track for your questions. If you haven't saved the track on quit, go to your C:/Windows/Temp/DCS/LastMissionTrack.trk Edited May 13, 2012 by WildBillKelsoe AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS Fat T is above, thin T is below. Tailgate Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 Sounds like posting a startup track would be the easiest way at this point. Were you fuel and boost switches on, what did your engine rpms read?
lobo Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 No parking brakes. If your wheels are on tarmac and you don't activate the wheel brakes, the plane should move very easily. Unless your brakes need to be inverted in settings. :detective_2: Lobo's DCS A-10C Normal Checklist & Quick Reference Handbook current version 8D available here: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/172905/
