As per the title......

I am having difficulty in getting the speed above 240 in straight and level flight but my wingman has no problem doing well over 300+.

Am I doing something wrong? I tried different prop settings, I had flaps up/gear up mixture was set, messed with carb air too.

Someone please tell me how to go over 300+ without diving.

Thanks,

Tim.:helpsmilie:

At 46inHg/27RPM you should cruise at 320mph trimmed for hands-free with full wing tanks. Post a track so we can have a look.

I have no idea what that means.....!! 46inHg!! I'll try and take a bit of footage if I can.

Confused when you say "different prop settings"...

Are you certain your prop pitch isn't set to MIN? Mine usually is by default on a cold start, have to cycle the axis to get it to where it should be.

I've tried everything fully forward, throttle, prop. I have tried lean/rich mixture.... But still only about 240 ish in forward level flight.

I toldmy wing man to 'anchor here' on comms and he did, then I asked him to rejoin and I F4'd a couple of times to see his plane and he was doing 325 kts.... that's when I realised that I am obviously doing something wrong.

Same with Dogfight mission, that AI out climbs me and out runs me no matter what I do so there must be an extra boost of speed somewhere.

Do I only open throttle part way and get 46mp and then pull the prop setting back or do I leave prop forward....arghhhhhhhhhh.

Any help is greatly appreciated oh and can any of you give me WEP....lol

Best speed is achieved at sea level with a clean configuration (no flaps, bombs, rockets, or drop tanks) with your prop lever set to hold 2600-2700 RPM, and maximum manifold pressure. Letting the prop run at 3000 RPM saps performance for a number of reasons that I don't want to get into.

Note that once engine degradation is modeled, you will not be able to maintain 61" manifold pressure for long before bad things happen!

I have a faulty Mustang then, must have the old Allison engine instead of the Packard Merlin..... gutted.

Watch this track I posted in the following post:

Track used to illustrate short-takeoff. Watch however when I get her airborne and set the Manifold to 46 and the RPM to 27. Trimmed correctly she settles down at 320mph in level flight. Increase settings to go faster and visa versa.

Pitch

Still confused, sorry. I thought the engine RPM automatically controlled the pitch of the prop... How do you adjust the pitch if that's possible?

There is a nice chart on page 31 of the manual.

Basicly you take-off, fight and land with 3000rpm with maximum 15 min War power (61inHg) or 5 min 67 inHg. You climb with 2700rpm or cruise with 2700rpm if you want to be fast. Cruise is usually 2400rpm @ 35inHg

46inHg is maximum continuous but not a recommended setting for a long cruise.

Thats my interpretation of the chart.

For maximum speed I usually go with 2700-3000rpm depending on air density. Full power of course.

Ok, I have a track...how do I upload it?

EDIT:

If you are used to using the quick reply at the bottom of the page. Hit the 'go advanced' button to see a screen with more options.

Look at the pic. Click on the paperclip marked 1. That will bring up the window marked two. Click any one of the 'browse' buttons, find your file. Then click top 'upload' button.

Hope that makes sense.

Not sure how the engine is modeled at this stage but only thing wrong is temperatures.Oil is around 20 °C and coolant almost 10°C if I'm corect

Fluid temperatures stay fixed at the ambient temperature at sea level, currently. This will be fixed as soon as the thermodynamics of the engine are implemented. The rest of the engine (apart from damage, start up and some other minor points) should be modelled quite well at this point.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.
